I'm reviving this ancient thread rather than starting a new one...

    Thoughts for 2023?

Glad you did- I'm researching front end upgrades for my 2020 Tracer 900GT for the winter. Have you made any choices yet?

  2. Shoei RF1200 here, but for my next helmet I wonder if MIPS floating liner will be standard in all helmets. Currently only Bell, Klim, and two others have it- will it be licensed to Shoei and Arai and others in the future?

A Mips or Multi-directional Impact Protection System is a low-friction layer located between the EPS and inner helmet liner that reduces rotational impact forces. This helps protect your brain from concussion and trauma.

  3. Thank you so much for the info and added pics- it's a great help. Seeing them, it makes my decision easy to go with the full length square tubing compressor. I've been frustrated before doing fork disassembly with somewhat improvised tools. Riding season's underway here, and I'm not leaving my forks off at a suspension place for this service, so I'll invest in the proper tools. Again- much appreciate your advice and I hope it helps others.

  4. Excellent, a clear simpler and cheaper alternative. Question is- if you're doing this alone, how do you hold the fork leg down for support? Critical to hold it securely, so that you can apply pressure with this tool. Square tubing full length support type tool for $80 more. The chinese version even uses RaceTech's same part number!

I've disassembled forks before, most easy, some difficult. The tool choice depends on how much tension the springs are. If not much, that simple ring tool will work. If Tracer 900GT fork springs happen to be the opposite, then the full length compressor tool is the way to go. I don't know yet. Did you do this yourself with that ring tool?

In my experience, if the rotors are not warped, my fine tuning procedure ensures the forks are coincident with the wheel and de facto the axle; given the wheel bearings are also true.

Question- do you have any recommendations for fork service in the Chicago/midwest area? I just want to replace my fork springs/oil on my stock 5K mile 2020 Tracer- probably Racetech springs. I've had good luck with Trackside Engineering in WI on a previous bike's Ohlins shock. Any shop closer that's good?

  6. My one year factory warranty expires soon (2020 Tracer 900GT- bought in 2021). Y.E.S. offer goes from $320-$590. Of course it would be worth it if you needed it, but I'm confident in my particular example and never buy extended warranties. Any USA owners have warranty issues and made a claim with them? I have not read yet to see what isn't covered...or is it worthless?

I had K-Tech piston kit and springs installed. Noticeable difference for the better.

I've been less than impressed with my Racetech stuff over the years and am going to try another brand. Always felt that their instructions were intentionally non model specific so that you'd have them install parts correctly.

Very interested in K-Tech, critical to find a suspension shop that will do it right I think.

@peteinpa - Are you only installing new springs, or are you also doing the Gold Valve revalving?   I had the full Race Tech springs & valving done on mine, and think I still have all the paperwork.

Excuse me for the thread hijack, doing forum suspension research- did you feel the money spent on this was worth it? Any regrets or disappointments with the complete package?

I'm 5' 10" and have put 11,000 miles on the bike since September.  Have a couple of thousand with OEM and then MRA.  Started with all MRA then added deflector.  Good combination and not expensive.  Back was Madstad but didn't go to it.

I'm also 5' 10" and also have a MRA. Quality is excellent, but wind blast just hits me wrong. I have to tuck down a little for it to be effective and quiet. I also tried spacing the top mounts out 3/8" , but no improvement. What deflector did you use on yours? Debating whether to get a Madstad for the cold, and keep the MRA for summer.
