There are quite a few good apps for route planning: - myrouteapp (and their new app 'Navigation'), Kurviger & Scenic. 

Scenic and myrouteapp are the easiest I find for planning a route in. 

myrouteapp is my go too at the moment as Scenic was only on Apple.

Im old school……..good ole paper map. Its nice and large to get a better sense of where Im going. 
 

Guess, Im kinda anti tech in someways. Having all that tech suff mounted on bars and such are just distractions to me. If I wanted a car type environment, Ill drive a car.
