  1. I did have the proper tools. A T30 Security Bit and a Craftsman handheld impact driver. The bolt was so tight that it bent my Milwaukee T30 bit and the piece started to spin inside the bolt. Shop time? I'd love to, but the handrails are attached with this bolt. I took the rear light out to try and get a better vantage point but there's not enough space for any tool to get in there and grip the bottom of the bolt. If I couldn't get the bolt out with the T30 bit and an impact driver, I doubt I'm going to get it out with a set of vice grips.
  2. Hi all, I spent the morning of this beautiful 4th of July attempting to install a rear luggage rack and case for my 2022 Tracer 9 GT (Shad case and rack). All was going swimmingly until I attempted to remove the T30 Security bolts located at the back of the grab bars just above the rear taillight. I got the left side bolt out no problem with a L-shaped wrench, but the throttle side wasn't budging. I worried about stripping it, so I bought an impact-rated bit for my (fairly low torque) electric impact driver. The bolt bent the Milwaukee bit to shit and still wouldn't move, and the bolt was much worse for wear since the bit started spinning in the head. There's no way I can keep going at it with the same bit, so I'm wondering if anyone has a suggestion for getting it out in this state? Or if I should just take it to the shop? The nut the bolt goes into is welded into the frame, so there's no way I can get it off from the bottom. I dunno who installed the bolt, but they used too many ugga duggas. I'm thinking of filing away the sides and trying to get a wrench on it, but if that fails I'm not sure a shop would even be able to get it out. Photo of the mangled bolt is attached.
  3. That's true of pretty much everything, though. At 70mph, the "curve" for aerodynamic pressure and resistance starts to drastically go up (aerodynamic resistance is not a straight line). It takes the bike a town more power to go from 70 to 75 than it does from 65 to 70, and every mile an hour above 70 takes much more power than the previous mile an hour.
  4. It does not. Confirmed with T-Rex before ordering. They don't have a rack for the 9 GT as far as I'm aware.
  5. Hmmm, I don't have fuel con on my dash. Good call! I'll change it over and be sure to keep track. I fill the tank up to just below the metal 'grate' that the filler nozzle fits in.
  6. Does anyone else have issues with the gas light coming on prematurely on their Tracer 9 GT? I reset my trip meter every fill-up, and the most recent one seemed very premature compared to other fill-ups. I was getting ~45mpg out of a full tank, but at 170 miles the fuel light came on and the indicator started blinking at me. I read in the manual it's supposed to come on when there's only .76 gallons of fuel left but when I filled it at the gas station the tank was full after only 3 gallons of gas (4.9gal capacity)! The math doesn't quite work out, but I included it below. 45mpg / 170mi = 3.77gal used 3.77gal - 4.99capacity = 1.21gal fuel left So did my gas light come on with 1.22 gallons left, or is it impossible to get the last 1/2 gallon of fuel into the motorcycle and I'll almost always be running on 4.5 gallons? Has anyone else had this issue or is it worth tracking and contacting my dealership if I keep noticing the light coming on presumably prematurely?
  7. Rad. Thanks for the info! Does anyone have experience with "overloading" the rear end of the bike? Talking 100+ lbs with both panniers and a trunk case? Obviously, I've ridden with a pillion and aside from the bike sitting deeper in its travel, I don't notice any differences while driving. Can't imagine it's all that different with gear weight.
  8. Howdy, I recently purchased and am loving my 2022 Yamaha Tracer 9 GT. However, since it didn't come with a trunk rack I'm quickly saving up the funds to make the purchase. I've found two decent options, and having a rack that has support underneath the back 1/2 is a must since I'll regularly be overloading the plate with 30-60lbs worth of gear (YMMV). There are cheaper racks that bolt onto just the rear attachment points, but I'd feel better with the added frame support. The first option is the T-Rex rack and Givi case combo, only $250 for a supported rack and 42L lockable top case. The second option is a bit more expensive, around $ 330+ shipping, but a guaranteed fit Shad luggage rack and 44L lockable top case. My issue is that I'm not entirely sure the T-Rex rack will work on the bike, so I'm wondering if anyone has tried to install the T-Rex rack that's marketed for the 2018-20 Tracer 900 GT? Or should I just spend the extra $80 and go with the tried-and-true Shad rack and case that has guaranteed fitment on the '22 Tracer 9 GT? Regardless, has anyone ever had an issue putting 30-50 lbs onto these mounting plates? My previous bike was a Suzuki V-Strom, and I would regularly load 40-70 lbs on top of the mounting plate without any issue.
