  1. I have just bought a secondhand 900gt with this mount.

As others have said the finish isnt perfect but it works well.

My only issue is that is quite high. not high enough to distract you. But I am having screen issues so may well try a sports screen. Pretty sure the gps will sit above the top of a sports screen.

My solution (which I am hoping to install soon) is a 45 deg ram mount.

I hope to install that on the bottom part of the screen adjuster ( through the rubber bung hole) that will lower it much more, then use a small ram arm to connect to the zumo.

  2. Thanks for the replies.

21040 is indeed wrong and being sent back I have a 01092-41/115 from a ducati on its way

    Manxkiwi.

I am curious to what you are saying  i get the 750lb ( funnily enough the guy from Nitron said that i could technically use my Nitron R1 from my 17 tracer ( the size is the same buut the valving is different) and I would need a 750lb spring)  and i converted lg/inch to nm/mm and got 131 13.1

You said the stock is 10 (100nm/mm) Ohlins recommend 115 and I was advised that would be fine for me ( Im 88kg in civvies, so about 95 in gear  plus topbox and 5k load.

  3. well I picked up the bike yesterday

the rear spring is a 140nm/mm  or  800lb

it wasnt as bad as I thought handled really well round the smooth bends.

I have been advised to get a 115nm//mm  655lb as this is the minimun that ohlins reccomend for the GT. With gear and topbox etc I reckong is  105-110kg around 230-240lb

sound about right to you guys?

    Thanks

  4. Well I made the decision!

Over the weekend I picked up a 19 reg Phantom blue Tracer 900 GT

Like I say I wasnt that bothered by the GT options, but the bike ( bought privately) was the same price as a standard Tracer from a dealer so it was a no brainer. Plus it came with lots of extras and an Ohlins shock.

Rode it home yesterday and it seemed so different to my old tracer, seemed faster accelerating ( even though mine had an akra  and reflash) and the brakes seemed better.

I wasnt that bothered by the qs (I guess I need to learn how to use it) but did like the CC.

Now all I have to do is fit all the extra goodies!

    Thanks for all your help

I agree with @ZigMeridthat the GT suspension is certainly good enough for city and highway riding. It is a budget bike and the upgraded GT suspension is better than before but "it transformed the bike" is exclusive to the better aftermarket solutions I fear. You don't need it but it makes riding the thing so much more fun, especially on twisty roads.

On a Ducati, BMW or KTM that great suspension is often included. But a GT with upgraded suspension is so much cheaper and to me felt like the superior bike compared against a KTM Super adventure 1290 full option. So the upgrade is expensive but it's actually very cheap for the total package.

    Thanks for the replies.

I have just seen advertised a 19 reg GT with Ohlins on it ( but set up for 30stone- far too stiff for me) and the price is as good as a tracer 900 from a dealer) just trying to confirm 100% if my nitron shock will fit on the gt ( otherwise its having to re spring the ohlins

You could go on the Race Tech spring selector and punch in some numbers to see when it spits out 625 lbs/in (11.2 kg/mm). You can convert units at Norwest Suspension.

FWIW... my Nitron shock was built for the 200lb me plus touring stuff... 650 lbs/in.

    Thanks for that, very interesting.

Do you mind me asking how heavy your touring stuff is?

I cant remember what weight the ordered it for but with gear I am about 210lb and have a top box so its about 225lb

Backing up for just a moment, I noticed:

I guess my question is, why are you so focussed on suspension if most of your riding is around town and motorway riding?

Is it that your "around town" roads are really crappy and you need superior suspension to compensate?

I'm asking because most people focus on after-market suspension because they are either carrying larger loads, running two-up or are something of a boy-racer who wants superior suspension when making a high-speed run thru twisty roads.

Entirely up to you of course, but if most of my riding was around town with a bit of ho-hum motorway, the last thing I'd be concerned about is replacing the stock suspension.

That is a very valid point.

Bit of backstory. Back in 2015 I had an old triumph sprint rs, I loved that bike, it was a fairly weighty bike but i could hussle that round the twist lanes where I live. That died and I thought i would go for a bit more upright so tried the tiger 800- hated it and tried the 2015 tracer. I liked it but never really gelled with it or felt confident with the way it took corners. New tyres helped lots but it just felt to figety and skittery for me. Anyway that bike got stolen and i got a 17 plate. this time i spoke to a suspnsion guy who changed the front springs and set it up  and then put the Nitron R1 on.

    It transformed the bike.

So now getting a new bike i would at least want the same standard.

  8. So on my never ending quest to get my new tracer IO have just found a 2019 GT for sale at a good price. A bit more thanI wanted to pay but it has an Ohlin street shock fitted. My thinking was that I could then sell my Nitron R1 shock to recoup some money.

Problem is the guy had is spung for 420Lb I am more like 250lb

I suspect that would make the bike hideous to ride.

I know I can change the spring- but am confused as to what spring I would need and how much it would cost any thoughts ( I am in the UK)

Also my nitron has a spring rate of 625, is there an easy way to find out what that is in N/mm and what that weight is set up for?

    Thanks in advance

    Hmm. Indeed.

I just double checked the Wilbers part matcher, and it throws three different part codes for the 2017 (RN43), 2019 standard (RN57), and 2019 GT (also RN57) for their basic 640 shock.

The plot thickens. Hopefully Nitron will get back to you with more authoritative info than mine.

Indeed, I wonder if the increased swinging arm is the same as the GT, hence the same models above.

I will have to investigate further

Maybe someone else has done this upgrade on a non-GT shock? I'd check with a suspension tech if it's worth it to upgrade it.

If you have the funds I'd go with the GT but I've never been known to be sensible about these things and mine isn't a workhorse, it's a pleasure tool. :D

    Thanks for all the replies.

Im absolutely Gutted as I thought I had found the perfect bike, an 18 reg tracer900 with only 4000m. really good value and the money saved would have enabled me to do all the upgrades in one hit.

But someone beat me to it.

I am still awaiting confirmation that my shock will fit an 18 bike(non GT) if it does then its a no brainer to but a standard tracer as I would only need to pay to upgrade the front- thinking of new springs and pistons. That and a reflash and the bike would be perfect ( apart from the dash lol)

Nitron have 2 different part number SKUs for the 2015-17 and 2018-20 models:

    NTBKY61S (15-17)

    NTBKY 73S (18-20)

The beautiful thing though about Nitron and other aftermarket shocks is that they can easily modify your existing shock to suit a different model. I'd get in touch with them directly to find out the details.

(I contacted Nitron UK directly with some questions about sag for some TVT cartridges once, and they politely responded despite me being located in a different country. Great customer support experience.)

    Kelly

upon investigating the second code is for a GT not a tracer.

Strangely if you go to nitron australia they list the tracer from 15 onwards yet on the uk site its just 15-17

Beside mentioned above some design changes. To me most obvious to me are air intakes grills and adjustable windscreen.

There are different seat options available for any model. Stock, comfort, heated etc. Color is a consideration. Further research may be required depending on what continent you reside.

    2018 Yamaha Tracer 900 Colors:

    Armor Gray

    2019 Yamaha Tracer 900 Colors:
    Armor Gray
    Raven (GT)

    Yamaha Tracer 900 GT Colors
    Red
    Silver

Thanks for that, there seems to be many more colours as well ( maybe different markets have different colours) There is a green in the uk.

I didnt realise about the seat options. But you are correct that the windscreen is a real give away.

To be honest I am struggling to work out what the changes are. I know the windscreen is improved, the bars are narrower and some have said the seat is improved.

I have also heard the forks were improved and the swinging arm was lengthened but I also hear that happened on the 17 model.

I am trying to work out if the shock from my 17 will fit on an 18/19 bike

  13. Hi all

It looks like I will be buying a 18/19 reg tracer to replace my 17 reg.

I know there were various changes done on the bike on the 18 model ( narrower bars different seat) and I thought they lengthened the swinging arm.

But I also read that the swinging arm was changed on the 17 model.

Either way does anyone know if the rear shock from a 17 model ( I have a Nitron R!) would fit on the 18/19 model?

    Many thanks

I'm just saying that the suspension tech seemed to find the KYB fork decent quality so that the spring, oil and seal upgrade would result in a good shock. The difference with Ohlins cartridges would only be noticeable on track according to him (that's where he spends most of his time on the Yamaha Racing team).

I'm not sure if the standard shock is also ok to do this with. I could be, I just don't know.

Im trying to get to the bottom of the forks.

It seems the GT has fully adjustable kyb forks (can tell by the gold finish) the 2018 tracer also has kyb forks but less adjustment and I think the earlier models were different.

The Tracer 900 has a 41mm KYB front fork that’s adjustable for preload on both legs, and rebound damping on the right leg only. The KYB single shock is adjustable for preload using the C-spanner in the supplied tool-kit.

The Tracer 900 GT has a fully adjustable KYB fork (easily recognisable by its gold finish), and a KYB shock that’s adjustable for rebound damping and preload (in 25 steps) using a really handy remote adjuster.

  15. Hi I know that there was some new changes introduced on the 2018 models

I think they were narrower bars, longer swinging arm and possibly the seat?

Is that correct or are there any more changes?

I am struggling to find an easy way to tell if the bikes I am looking at are the 18-20 models

Is there an easy way to check?

( I think I may have answered my own question with the seat?)

    Thanks

Wait, the 2018 non-GT does not have the TFT dash? That alone is worth it in my book. I consider getting an older bike and the LCD dashes always turns my off. I still like completely analogue but LCD is just so ugly to me now. I know it's very superficial but it is what it is. I've considered buying a 2012 multistrada or an older VFR but when I see that dash I realize I don't want to go back to that. I've done a few test rides with other new bikes and the Tracer 900 GT's TFT in dark mode is one of the best out there. It's just the right size too, don't like the big ones with too much info.

The GT has better suspension for sure, it's just still not very good, average at best.

The Tracer 9 is the first one with good suspension out of the box.

As many people on this forum will tell you, suspension is the best upgrade you can do. Even after saying all the above I think I would still choose the non-GT with Ohlins over the factory GT in a vacuum.

Yep the non gt has the mono lcd with 2 displays. Im not a great lover of it  but I have to be practical. The bike is a workhorse really.

I have seen a lovely 19reg gt with grey paniers for £8150

Yet a tracer 900 68reg ( still 2019) with no paniers but arrow exhaust is £1200 cheaper- thats a lot of modifying,  thats the rear shock, front springs quick shifter and ecu flash!.

Just I think i should be sensible you go and tug at my emotions with your fancy tft screens 😀

  17. Hi All

my bike is going to the salvage yard in the sky so I intend to get what i can off it.

It is fitted with Givi crash bars.

I would like to remove them but, as i bought the bike with them on, I dont know what bolts i need to replace them with ( I presume the givi came with longer bolts.

Anyone either have an idea of what bolts I need to buy or where i can find that information?

    Many thanks

This isn't even remotely strange to me, honestly.

My hard cases see use only a couple times a year on major trips.  Day to day, they stay off.  As I own a set of soft bags for my Tenere I've considered just selling my hard cases, and slapping the soft bags on either bike as needed.

The GT offers a lot more than just the cases, though.  If it was just them, I'd ABSOLUTELY just buy the base model and throw soft bags on.

But factory heated grips, cruise control, tft dash, quickshifter, adjustable suspension... mmm.

I agree to a certain degree, Heated grips I already have, quickshifter  i can add on.

Adjustable suspension isnt that important as the load changes on my rides will be  + - 10kg.

What is important is if the GT has better suspension. and I do like the new dash.

A whole lot of my problem is i want something new- different from what i already have!
