I’m jealous of almost everyone else on here, but you blue ridge people should have your own thread so we don’t have to hear about how good it is.  😛

Brp IS NOT the cool road. It's a federally patrolled road with a 45mph speed limit.

IIt's all the little roads that run north/south off brp. 😛

for reals though, it's great here...but I sure do miss some California roads.

Thanks for the info everyone. You guys are making me more excited to get there. The riding around Abilene kind of sucks. There are only 2 routes relatively close to me that are really fun but they are short. I have to travel at least 3 hours to get to any decent roads and I don't often have the time to travel that far.

You'll be in the heart of most of the good shit in Asheville.

Little Switzerland will basically be your new home, even though you'll live in Asheville. :)

  3. this is com3 to the white courtes phone, how can i help you?

hehe.  i'm in mills river, about 12 miles from asheville.  the riding out here is second to only california, imo.  i've been here (from cali) for about a year now.  you can ride pretty much year round. i too don't mind the cold... you'll get days in the 40s and stuff, but not really much below that.  there'll be snow pattering the ground a couple times during the winter, but it doesn't stay longer than 2-3 days in my experience.  BRP closes jan/feb or so...  but that's not the good road for riding anyways.

    find me on facebook: https://www.facebook.com/joeasalas

hit me up there of you want.  i know most of the roads in the greater area...i've been venturing out towards virginia, west virginia, and kentuky lately finding more good roads. :D

Also this. @com3 has spent more time on a racetrack with his FJ than anybody else I know of. No ECU flash either...

that being said, i did go into the diagnostics of the FJ on the dash and went 1 value less on the APS config when i was chasing the surging issue.  it smoothed out the throttle a tiny bit. didn't fix the surging. lulz.

the top end limiter would be the only reason why i'd flash the bike, i think... but even so, the FJ sucks over 90mph, so what's the point in even that?

I'm getting ready for my ChampSchool next week at Road Atlanta.  I'm contemplating going ahead and taking the centerstand off before I get there.  I've never done a school or anything on a track other than 15 years ago and turned about 10 laps on a  kart track with my DRZ-SM.  I'm a little anxious.

Sweet! I'll be there for sure! With my center stand intact. :)

    YCRS Review

OK, here we go.  I finally made it out to INDE after having to wait another month because of flight cancellations.  I had three main goals for this experience. 1) Really freaking understand trail braking.  2) Figure out why and stop having so much tension in my arms/hands.  3) And gain as much knowledge about how the motorcycle works and what inputs it likes best to be safer faster.

    1) Mission accomplished.  Not only do I understand trail braking, but I can do it.  And it provides a better control of the machine.

    2) Mission accomplished. Biggest solution for this is use my body more, and simply more confidence in controlling the motorcycle.  If you are fortunate enough to get to a class, you have to do the two-up ride.  Mine was with Nick and I couldn't believe how fast he was able to go.

    3) Mission accomplished.  The video that is on youtube about 100 points of grip is only the tip of the iceberg, but it gives you a hint of one of the main tenets of the YCRS way.

Overall, I'm really glad I did this.  Nick and all the other trainers are so fun.  He talks up front about customer service and they back up their words 100%.  It's probably more geared toward someone who is trying to get faster on the track than just a street rider, but they don't neglect the street rider at all.  This was my first time on a track, but I imagine I'll find a few more local track days now that I feel comfortable with a track.

Only "downside" to the whole thing is that I realize I'm probably going to have to ship the ECU to Ivan for a flash because of the smoothness factor.  Hopefully that can be a quick turn-around, and then back to practicing my new skills.

Thanks again to @com3 for the coupon and the advice.  I can't speak about what I don't know about the other schools, but I 100% recommend YCRS.

Woot! Sorry I wasn't at this one to meet you personally! Glad you had a great time and learned some good stuff. :)

Make sure your shift linkage is all tight. @com3, didn't you have an issue with a piece of the shift linkage being installed incorrectly from the factory?

Ehhh...everything was just a little wrong from factory... Haha! But no, they replaced the o-ring or something on recall...but since I run reverse shift, they put it back how it was, but screwed the bolt on from the backside instead of how it's supposed to be (threaded side out). Haha.

Few days left for the killer deal on YCRS!  Anyway, I'm such a noob at the track stuff.  I know there are some types of gear you're supposed to wear under the leathers, but I don't have ANY of it.  What do you recommend?

    Basically what @koth442 said.

I prefer long sleeve and long pant underarmor. I really don't like the feeling of my leathers against bare skin. It just feels gross. Haha. Also, I have both winter and summer under armor...I.e., summer gear helps me stay cooler, etc.

Cycle gear has their own inexpensive brand...and just about any dept style store (Wal-Mart etc) will have their house brand of similar type stuff... But you get what you pay for.

If you want best of the best, my friend aliki makes the cream of the crop compression gear:  https://vnmsport.com/

I signed up!  YCRS Feb. 18-19 at the INDE Ranch!  The code given out actually added another %10 off everything, so BIG THANK YOU to com3.

The main page doesn't list it, but they have Tracers you can rent, so I signed up for that, but Nick told me I could switch around to other bikes.  They don't have any GTs, but that's ok at least I'll have almost the same experience as if I brought mine.

So anyway, if any of you guys happen to be heading out to this class, let me know.

You won't be disappointed!  I'm not sure if I'll be at that school yet or not..I'll be at the homestead, Florida event at the end of Jan though.

I'm obviously on a Tracer, but I don't think I'll bring my bike out to wherever, so what should I rent?  They have the MT-09, and wondering if that would be most suitable since it's the same engine.  Kind of eyeing the R6 though...

This is of course for the YCRS.  California school I think offers BMW 1000.  I don't think Total Control offers rental.

At YCRS, you can rent anything from an r3 to the mt and anything in between. We also have all the gear so you could just fly and ride.

  11. You ABSOLUTELY cannot go wrong with taking [nearly] any school. Investing in your riding is the best "mod" you can make to your bike. The best part is that it'll carry over to every single motorcycle you'll ever own for the rest of your life. :)

I've been working with the champ school (YCRS with Nick) since 2008. I've been too several others as well, including the CASBK school... I'm a firm believer in the teachings and methodology of YCRS.

they'll give you all the info. There's no "levels" or anything of the sort. Only ALL the info.

where do you live? ...oh..And don't tell anyone, but use the code 4TR if you decide on YCRS for 10% off the top. ;) (and no, I make nothing from referrals)

I always undercook 9 because I'm too busy finding the water tower, and don't take enough entry speed.  Conversely, I overcook 5 and find myself out of line for 5A.

What I'm saying is, avoid Z2 when I'm there.  LOL

Hahaha! If the bazillion laps I've done at thill, I STILL don't know what water tower people are talking about... I use reference points that are close and easily identifiable...like for 9, over the blind crest, I divide the track into thirds mentally..I know I need to be on the right third every time at the crest.

    __|___|___|__

I need to be on that right most line above...make sense?

I presume you did the East track? How was the windblast on the straightaway between 15 and 1? How about the whoop over turn 5?   Did the front end float too much? I only ever take my Gen 1 SV there, so the FJ would be a completely different experience.

the wind always pushes you down the front straight into 1 at thill.  it's coming over 9 where you catch the wind at an angle when the bike is already super light. 😮

I feel like the tail of the dragon is a bucket list thing. I'll have to do it if I'm over there, even knowing there's better around. I'll just plan on spending more time there. For a minute I was contemplating buying a tracer from Texas and riding it home the long way to visit a few states over there. Unfortunately I can't really get 2 weeks off to do it right.

I got to ride the MT-09 yesterday for a session at Thunderhill and man was that fun. I'm definitely getting a tracer/fj now! haha. Now the only question is do I have the patience to wait to sell the Tiger first...

With z2? I've probably ridden 700-800 days at Thunderhill. Haha.

My buddy Ryan was doing the demo program there...I imagine that's what you did? I work with the yamaha school.
