I just spent some time digging into the details of the new 2020 Ninja 1000SX, and I have to say it looks REALLY impressive.   They are definitely positioning it as a Gentleman's Express sport-tourer...  half of the photos in the brochure are shown with saddle bags and a passenger, and the overall style and paint scheme is so much more refined than the Ninjas of old.

My one gripe:  I personally think they need to ditch the Ninja name entirely on this bike.  I get the heritage and market awareness of the name, but I just think it sends the wrong initial message.  Call it a ZX-1000 SX (or whatever), because it looks to be a great motorcycle that deserves its own identity.

I agree with you on that. Many insurance companies charge huge rates for it because of the ninja name and past experiences with squids killing themselves on the ninjas of old. Time to dump the ninja name.

If I had to replace my FJ-09 tomorrow I'd have to give this a serious look. I'm not sure my knees could handle it; I used to tour on a TT600 but that was almost 20 years ago now.

Speaking of bang-for-the-buck: my local dealer is blowing out 2019 Ninja 1000s for $7999. I'll bet you could install MCcruise, a custom seat, upgrade the suspension and still save money.

Holy crap where do you live?

  3. I only rode it for 20 miles, but damn I fell in love with that bike. I don't know what they put in that new seat but it's the most comfortable seat I've ever ridden on.

The 2019 ninja 1000 did not handle as well as this new one. It was good, but this new Ninja, I would take it to trackday stock , it's that good.

And the Power, my God there was power everywhere, smooth power at any rpm. I was in fifth gear doing 25 mph and just twisted the throttle and it took off like a rocket.

I'm seriously considering buying one. Deal of the century at that price.

  4. My co worker let me take his new bike for a spin. Wow, I really really liked that bike. Smoothest fueling I've ever felt on a bike, handles really well and the TFT screen goes light or dark, like this forum.

Most comfortable stock seat I have ever sat on.  I know sport tourers are out and ADV bikes are all the rage, but that Ninja 1000 is pretty damn tempting. They knocked it out of the park on the 2020 Changes.

$12,139 at the local dealer. Hmmmm.

I use to visit China regularly in my last job. When I asked about the knock-offs in local markets the locals explained how it is done.

    - the factory quotes to the Western customer, how many coats for example, that they can make from each square meter of cloth.

    - the factory delivers against that spec, but “to their surprise” finds that they can make more than they planned to.

    - these are sold by the factory and it’s all profit.

Items made this way are the same quality as the real deal, but I got the impression that they are sold locally.

The other way is that the Chinese factory makes the product for the western customer, but has now learned how to make it and has all the patterns. They then make their own copy, often with cheaper materials and sell directly on sites like ebay.

They make em with far cheaper materials, and that is really bad considering that we are talking about safety equipment. Then, somebody wrecks, slides and all the skin gets ripped from their hands, down to the bone.

No thanks. I'll stick with the real thing at RevZilla.

This is a year old thread so sorry for bringing it from the dead but: I have a GT-Air and they are on sale right now at Revzilla for 350. Also, Schuberth's S2 elite, which would be the closest competitor is on sale there too for 400. I'm thinking of switching to the S2 just to see if it's as quiet as everyone says it is

    yep

    shoei_gt_air_helmet.jpg

High-tech, yet elegantly simple. The GT-Air features fully-adjustable...

And Shuberth helmets are my favorite and are the quietest I have ever ridden in

The S2 packs Schuberth’s famous acoustics, a drop down sun visor and...

I had bought the scoop and badge but when it arrived I saw that the edge cap is a separate part and ordered it already. I was hoping someone knew of a technique to clean it up and I could cancel the edge cap. I t was worth a shot. I've seen some people come up with cool solutions for different issues over the years.

I consider my scuff marks a badge of honor. Where I live,  "Idaho" roads are often sanded and full of new Californians that just moved here and can't drive for shet. Scuffs and dents happen.

I grew up in Maine and we always complained about Massachusetts drivers. So I suppose that scuffs and dents happen there too.

I got hit in a parking lot by a woman that didn't see me. The first thing I did laying on the ground was move my arms and legs to make sure I wasn't paralyzed. Then they loaded my in the ambulance and took me to the trauma center. I now wear high viz everything. I never worried for a second afterwards about riding anywhere except in parking lots. I get nervous now whether in a car, truck, bike or walking.

A funny thing happened at work yesterday. A friend there rides a Harley bagger saw I have a picture of my MT 10 on my desktop and told me " that thing is a death machine" I didn't respond because I didn't want to have an argument in the middle of an office. I've offered to let him ride it but he's scared shitless of getting on it. I wanted to say....so my bike that has incredible handling, turns on a dime, has suspension that eats up rough road, traction control, ABS is the death machine? And on top of that I wear great helmets, jackets gloves in high viz colors versus you in your pirate outfit and a plastic yarmulke? Didn't Harley guys originate the "I had to lay it down" expression? I guess that's what you do when you ride an 800 pound beast that doesn't stop or turn. Sorry, it's hard for me to stop myself when I get going about Harley people and their antiquated bikes and ideas and arrogance.

In my state , over half the motorcycle deaths that I see on the news are Harley riders. Sometimes not their fault but here, you hardly ever see a Harley rider wearing a helmet and when they do, it's usually one of those half asses half helmets.

I take the advanced STARS riding course every other year in the spring to keep my habits refreshed and one year, this guy shows up on a big heavy bagger and he had to borrow a helmet from the instructors.

We got to the fast swerve and power stop manuveur and of course, right on cue, he low sided the 800 lb piece of shet in front of the entire class.

I think that Harley marketing and attitude has killed more motorcyclists than anything else.

I work at a chemical company and this is by far the scariest chemical we have, and we have some gnarly chemicals. Kingfisher put it mildly, this shit will eat your skin all the way down to your bone and then eat your bones it seeks the calcium in your bones. We have a special cream fortified with with calcium that we are supposed to apply in case of accidental contact it’s supposed to pull the hydrofluoric towards the cream and hopefully you’ll  be under a safety shower by that time rinsing yourself off till the ambulance gets there but your still F’d at that point. Pretty sure this is what the stew maker who worked for the cartels in Mexico used to dissolve all the body’s in.

And certainly don't use it and then take a piss without washing your hands first.

Using Leo Vince SS pipes.   After awhile (less than 1000 miles) the connector point turned bluish.

What are you all using to polish SS pipes? Looking for suggestions.

    Thanks

This stuff works the best for me . This bluing happens to all bikes, but if you must remove the Blue, this is the stuff to use.

This thread just popped up in my mind as I was looking at a bunch of posts on another forum.  I belong to two riding "groups".  One is a forum only, ST-Owners.org.  The other is for the Kawasaki Concours Owners Group (COG).  I think the "secret" they have is they get together and organize regional rides.

One of my favorite rides is "NEWSTOC".  It's held in Seven Bays, WA at the private residence of one of the forum members.  He makes his yard open to camping and there's motels close by.  It's just a wonderful time for some riders to get together, have fun riding during the day, and have fun sitting around telling tall tales around a campfire at night.

The COG is an actual group.  You can join just the forum, or you can help support the organization with some low-cost yearly dues.  Like the ST owners, they organize rides.  We must've had 20 posts tonight alone on the ride in Death Valley this April.  There's a bunch of posts on the Bun Cooler in Kamiah Idaho coming up.  I watched a member change his rear tire in the parking lot of the KOA motel with another member guiding him...and about 35 of us giving advice from our lawn chairs and drinking our favorite refreshments.

The rides give the people an excuse to meet and see each other in person.  The deep long lasting relationships develop from that.

But it takes people to decide to make an effort initially to get it started.

    Chris

I know the mayor of Kamiah. She can drink us both under the table.

I'm up for group rides, gotta see the members go in it.

  12. People were a hell of a lot more smarter back in the early 2000's.  Your avg internet user was tons smarter than now. Forums were harder to use then, people had to know a lil BB Code to post pics.

Today, Social media has made people dumb. point and click is all they know. Nobody wants to learn any code. And yeah, the content sucks. Go to FB, there is no useful info, just everyone bragging about what they bought, they no longer even post links to share the good deal they just found, just pics. Heyy! look at me!

    It's sad.

I’m of a mind as betoney and age as Cruizin.  Rabble rousing online is not my style though in person some call my sense of humor depraved.

Cruizin I salute you for bringing this up.  Move Fireside chat to the top of the forum topic list?  Things have been quiet there since I showed up but the spicy stuff could be encouraged and corralled there.

Pass the hat and pay wordsmith a few AUD to come back?

    He's welcome, but I ain't paying.

  14. Back when this forum was on the old software, at fj-09.org, we used to be a pretty damn fun forum. Alot of jokes were cracked, fun was had, the comradery was at a much higher level.

In the past six months, I have been messaged on FB by people complaining that we are boring and that the old forum was more fun. That a lot of the old timers left because they got bored. We have great tech info, a lot of you are great mechanics with some serious technical expertise.

But, what can we do to liven things up again around here?

    Ideas?   Anyone?
