  1. Well, the PR4s that had been languishing in my garage uninstalled for almost a month were put on last week. This morning was the first opportunity I had to try them out. As usual, the Pilot Road (insert version here) tires are vastly superior to the D222s and any previous stockers I've owned. Ready for my trip to the mountains in a couple of weeks.

Also, this little addition will help a lot in the 'getting there' and 'getting back' parts of the trip:

    Can't wait!
  2. Got over 9000 mi. on the rear just replaced with a PR4. Front tire still stock with a long way to go.
That's really good to know. I'm heading out on a 2,500 trip next month and replaced the stockers with only 2k on them, not knowing how they would fare.  Nice to know I can slap them back on for a few k after the replacements are worn.

  3. Replaced front fender.
The paint was coming off in spots. Showed it to my dealer, who sent the claim with pictures off to the mothership. Within a few days I got the call that Yamaha had agreed to replace it under warranty. Received the replacement a few days after that.

Hard to complain about that kind of response. Yamaha could show BMW a thing or two about taking responsibility and corrective action when appropriate.
That's encouraging to hear Bob. It IS good to know they take their warranty issues seriously. I've already had my go around with that silly seized bearing issue...
    What happened?

  5. Thanks for posting this. It reminds me of a Park Tool chain cleaner I have for bicycle chains. It's designed to work with citrus degreaser which I certainly wouldn't use on an o-ring chain.
I used to use K-1 with my Park chain cleaner back in my avid bicycling days. Worked well and left a thin paraffin coating on the chain when it dried. Might try it on the FJ with the Kettenmax.
  6. Hi,
Today MCCruise bought a Tracer. I will get it next Friday and then we start development. Our new computer allows us to reconfigure it to talk to OEM switch gear - like that on the Honda F6B. We don't know yet whether it will work on the Tracer - or MT-09, but it should.

Wish us luck! I want to travel around Oz before I get too old - whatever that means!

Good luck!  Very curious to see what you will come up with.
  7. Thanks. Sorry for being a complete idiot but what cable did you connect the posi-taps to? All additional tips on installation (especially connecting the wires) not shown in the manual would be most appreciated..!:)

If you follow the instructions included with the hand guard lights, you will have removed the windshield, its mount and the plastic cover that covers both power outlets.
Look at the power outlet where the wires come into it from the bottom.  There are two; one light colored and one dark.  These are the wires I tapped.  You'll have to remove some of the electrical tape that is on the wires at that location in order to make room for the posi-taps.

I joined the wires from the two lights together and then connected them to the power outlet wires with posi-taps; light to light and dark to dark.  It's really not difficult.

Sorry that I didn't take pictures, seems it might have been helpful.  I'm out of town now or I'd run out to the garage and take some.
  8. Yes. Pretty straight forward.  Just follow the directions. For power, I used Posi-taps and tied into one of the power outlet wires.  Turn the key and the lights come on.

Do you know what size of posi-taps are needed? I have to order them from the uk and found this vendor with different sizes.

I used the red ones, which were perfect for the job.
  9. Installed crash bars & highway pegs.

Any chance to get a pic sometime with you or someone sitting on the bike with feet on the highway pegs? Curious to see them "in use".

No pictures.  I can't afford another camera after I break the one I have by taking pictures of myself.  :D
I will say that my legs aren't fully extended with the pegs in this position.  BTW, I'm 5'8", 30" inseam.

I considered swapping sides with the crash bars and mounting them upside-down.  That would have put them in a better position for the pegs, but it would have looked goofy and the turned part at the front would have been dangerously close to the header.

As they are, they will still provide some relief on those long rides.
