  1. What caused it to strip the threads? Was it because of over torquing the bolt? recently adjusted my chain slack and the torqued the rear axle bolt to 111 ft/lbs per the manual (for the 2019 tracer) using a beam torque wrench. The other side of the axle is slightly misaligned. Is this normal?
  2. Is the 111 ft/lbs torque really a pain in the ass to tighten? I recently adjusted my chain slack and used a beam torque wrench to get to this torque rating. It was really hard and am quite concerned if I stripped the axle thread 😣
  3. hmmm quite the opposite solution from what I've read from other riders. For me, I've maxed out the preload at the front and 2nd to the hardest at the rear. Raised the front by 5mm. Bike turns in more quick and feels more planted. I suppose it's really different for everyone. I'm still using stock tires too.

  5. It's my first time fiddling with suspension setups and I recently had mine adjusted by a mechanic. I had my forks raised by 5mm from the stock position (flushed at the triple clamp). Bike handled when I took the bike for a spin. Upon re-checking when I got home, the right fork is slightly higher by approximately .5mm - is this a big cause for concern or doesn't matter? Apologies for my OCD-ness..

Quick update for those who are following on the setup on my 2019 Tracer 900 (non-GT): Fork raised about 5mm from the clamp Front Preload maxed out (stiffest) - Gives about 46mm of sag (approx 33% of travel) Rebound 4 clicks towards soft from the hardest position Rear shock 2nd to the hardest preload setting (forgot the sag number that the mechanic told me) Rear rebound, 1/2 turn towards soft from the hardest position Everything in the front and rear suspension is bone stock. I'm about 78kg and approx 81-82kg with gear. Bike feels more responsive and planted, there's still a bit of shimmy on the front when I accelerate hard but nothing too scary. Have only ridden a couple of kms with the bike and mostly through traffic. Will update once I take it out on a long ride with twisties and more highways.
  7. I'm about to do my adjustments tomorrow and will start at raising the forks by 5mm first. With your setup, are there any major changes in how the riding position feels and ground clearance? I'm worried that by raising the fork, you'll have a too aggressive riding position and sacrifice ground clearance. Or am I just over thinking the 5mm difference from stock. Obviously, I'll also adjust the pre-load and rebound after that for both front and back.
  8. I have but not by choice. Dropped the bike on the right side during a low speed manoeuvre. Saved the lower part of the engine. Scuffed up the right headlight fairing cause I was near a curb so I'm guessing it hit that, scuffed up the front signal light but didn't really break it or anything, bent the bank sensor a bit on the right foot peg, and hit a bit of the pillion footrest on the right. Aside from the scratches on the crash bar, it did its job. I just not sure if it misaligned anything or bent the crash bar itself. haha!
  9. I'll give this a go and ride around with it. I'm also having a hard time keeping my foot down at times (already dropped my 2-day old bike but thank goodness that I installed crash bars already) so I need to lessen the preload at the rear and a bit on the front. From factory, so I just turn the front preload until the exposed part is 6 lines are showing and just one click towards soft at the rear? I won't mess with rebound at this point in time first.
  10. Thank you for your inputs! It's very illuminating and I suppose there's no better way to find than to just ride the damn thing haha! Basing from the stuff you've shared, I'll ride the bike with the stock suspension setup first where everything is in the middle and work my way from there. For reference I'm only 5'6" at about 175lbs so just a little higher than the average Japanese male the suspension was supposedly setup for. I'm coming from a 2017 Suzuki SV650 with a little over than a year's worth of riding experience on a bike so I really don't plan to ride hard right off the bat until such time I'm more acquainted with the Tracer. I'm guessing the longer wheelbase will keep things planted as well so I'm hoping for the best.
  11. New 2019 Tracer 900 owner here! Just wanted to ask if the stability/steering wobble at high speeds was addressed by the improvements on the 2019 model? The 2019 model has been updated with a longer swing arm at 59.1" whereas the 15-17 models were only 56.7". I've done a bit of research and there were quite a number of instances where the FJ09s had that 'death wobble' issue at higher speeds. Would like to know if a steering damper is still necessary aside from the usual suspension adjustment catered to my weight. Thanks!
