As a little aside, what is the recommended chain slack, and do you folks measure it on the centre (center) stand?

I remember years ago my boss was driving in his old rubbish porsche and hit a pheasant at 50mph, it came right through the windscreen and broke his shoulder.
How we laughed
You have some scary wildlife there.

The reason they stopped shooting coyote was because the deer herds were getting too large but people made a stink about culling the deer. First they tried relocating the deer but it was too expensive and the hunters complained. Even with the coyote there are more than enough deer during season. Turkeys, raccoons, opossum, pheasants, etc are friggin a nightmare too for motorcyclists. Foxed are rare or smart enough to stay out of sight, and coyotes keep to themselves. The suburbanites and even now in Chicago complain about coyotes, they've adapted and do well but scare people. The suburbanites complain about the deer too but love Bambi's regardless.
Pheasants and badgers and foxes on the roads here are the main thing, deer as well, but pheasants, man they are everywhere.
Not even legal to bow hunt them , or I'd carry a bow with me on the bike. -

Sure, lemonade! In Scotland?
It's a Whiskey Sour here...
Pour one shot of whiskey in each glass. Add 1.5 tablespoons of the brown sugar simple syrup to each glass. Then squeeze half of a lemon into cocktail. Stir then top with lemon rind.
That sounds delicious, I've never had that. But when you have a good Whisky you have it straight.

no doubt mine would be totalled fm insurance perspective (no full coverage, I'd have paid for the bike by now in premiums). After fixing shifter I rode it the other day, without crunched fairing and headlight assy. Doesn't feel quite right, things seem loose.
I've ridden an XSR900, that triple is a delight.
The main thing is that you live to ride another day.
As a recent convert to the Tracer 900, it is a superb bike. Far better than my vstrom 650 was.- 1

I love your powder blue socks and slip-ons, are you wearing a kilt? LOL!
When it's hot a kilt would be cool but not exactly ATGAT for riding...
Hahahaha, nah, shorts. A kilt on a bike, mibbe need to ride sidesaddle to manage that.
They are incredibly heavy, and you'd be amazed how warm they are in cold weather, as well as cool in hot weather.

Rear View Mirrors Extenders For Yamaha are M10x1.25 @ 40mm long.
Available on ebay worldwide
R&G Racing Mirror Risers are M10x1.25 and raises the mirror by 45mm
Those are what I have on my 2015 Tracer. They work really well. But the finish is a bit rubbish, so I have some rusty bits to tidy up.

I got rained on a couple of times today, which temporarily provided some relief. But then the heat & humidity came back in full force... it is definitely toasty outside.
Oh, and I succeeded in finding the ocean: It’s right where I left it last time I visited.
Unscripted exploring along the Texas Gulf Coast
Great photos, and congratulations on finding the ocean.

I get it. After 40+ years hitched to the same Human Female, my Vulcan libido only rears its head every 5 years (hence 3 mixed offspring each 5 years apart), so usually I'm thick as a brick to the subtle advances of the fairer sex. But still Man, everyone has needs!
If you are a born Scott, I love the accent, not that I understand half of what is said. My youngest spent a semester at the Dick Vet at U of E, and while it was enjoyable to the most extent, the living quarters apparently were antiquated, and it was coldish and rained a lot.
Super strong scottish accent You can hear it if you go on my youtube archery site channel (just search for Hutchie 2112)
She even told me she passed her mcycle test in March, just before lockdown, but now had no confidence to ride, and no-one to ride with, and asked me about what bike I thought she should buy. Gave me her camera to take lots of photos of her to show her friends.
I am socially illiterate now apparently. Still. I have new suspension coming, and she might have ruined the handling- 2

Why not ask for a pic, and a phone number? Better half has access to your cell? LOL
I was kicking myself afterwards. She was properly giving me all the hints. She even tried out the back seat , and I was too thick to pick up on it , doh!
Better half decided she was better off without me a few years ago
But after the last 'lady friend' I had, I would rather have another dog

I’m on my way to the seaside, @Stew. Or at least the Gulf of Mexicoside...
Interim stop along the way:
Super cool. Plus powerade, mmmmm, delish. I had to settle for a can of fanta (orange fizzy drink in case you don't have it)

How cool is that, thanks. It's good to see proper stonework like that.

Some amazing scenery to ride through. Could you tell me please, what is the building in the 4th photo down, the stone built one on top of the hill?

Here's a link to their uk page, which clearly states plug and play Twice as loud, and it has a deeper tone. Obviously it's available in the USA

Is Soundbomb fit a simple plug-n-play? Or does it require a rewire for increased currant draw?
Pull the two wires off from where the existing horn is fitted (bayonet sort of thingies) and push on the two wires from the new horn.
Nothing to it. It is the Soundbomb mini I went with, and it is insanely wonderfully loud. -

Sounds sweet. I can turn a wrench so I am going to try this myself. Although I think if I could find a shop nearby that specialized in suspension I may go that route. I'm hoping that I can spend just under 1500 usd and get goodies for both the front and rear. But the options out there are overwhelming.
So can I, but the price, including the fitting and setup from a proper 'expert' was too good to bother doing myself then spending ages on setup. It is costing me almost exactly the amount you mentioned. Bargain.
Hopefully you'll find somewhere near you. There are so many options available.

What suspension goodies did you decide on? I have the base 900 and have been looking around trying to find something that is the best bang for the buck.
HIya @iitywygms , I went with a UK company , TWS Suspension, who provided me with a list of custom options.
I decided on...
Fully strip and service forks and Install K-Tech-20 SSK Piston Kit with springs to suit your weight
Replace the stock shock with a K-Tech Razor R Performance shock fully adjustable in preload, compression and rebound
All being fitted by the guy who runs the company, so it will all be set as well as possible for me. I am tall and very skinny, so I like a bike set up really soft, but with the ability to stiffen up the back end a bit for camping gear/inflatable canoe/pillion (in that order!)

You are going to be so pleased with the suspension upgrades... I can’t wait to hear your impression.
You may surprise yourself with adjustments to the riding position after having the suspension done. I went lower & farther away with the bars, and the slight extra weight over the front is the perfect complement to the more sporting nature of the bike. It’s still super comfortable, and the slight forward upper-body lean balances nicely with the clean airflow from the shorty windscreen I use. It’s kind of a a comfy hooligan-sport-standard...
Exactly what I am thinking/hoping. I could see me ending up setting the bike up so the bars are lower and further away. Ido like my big puig screen though

@stew I told you the soundbomb💣 was pretty dam impressive, now don't go and send anybody to the promise land with it🙂
It's crazy. Fitted it while talking to my brother in law. Sat on the bike to test it. Hit the horn button for a second and the pair of us looked at each other, grinned, then nearly died laughing , it is soooooo loud. I love it, every bike should have one
I'll probably treat him to one for his vstrom, just for the sheer joy it brought us both , hahahaha. Well done Denali. It isn't even expensive for being such a massive upgrade, that fits in , what, 5 minutes, took me 10 cos we were chatting.

For the main handlebar risers, do you have them in the forward or aft position? they come from the factory in the aft position. If you rotate them, they should have an offset of about 10mm. You can still use the add-on risers in their normal position. Something to try before discarding them.
Great news on the suspension, like a kid on Christmas morning.👍
Std 'aft' position. But I realised almost right away that I actually preferred the feel of the bike without the risers on. I was also getting buffeting and all sorts, so I'm quite happy to just take them off again. If anybody in the uk is looking for some they can have mine for the price of the postage. They have been used for one 80 mile ride
Cannot wait to get the suspension done, it feels like santa is coming early.

Simplified Chain Adjustment
in FJ-09 Tracer 900 General Discussions

Thanks. Thats about what mine is at at the moment. I was cleaning some of the road much off the bike a bit and noticed a wee split at the front of the chain guard, but by the looks of it, and how it has sort of worn, it has been there a long time. I just wondered if my chain was miles too slack or something.
Phew
