Pretty sure that would turn it into this. Kidding aside, never heard of anyone attempting a rear trike or even a tow behind.

I have seen double rainbows. You'll have to go back someday and keep a lookout for those.

These were taken in Ardmore, Co Waterford on the SE coast.

Was treated to my first full rainbow ever during our visit along the return from Giants Causeway along the eastern coast of Ireland back to Belfast. 

Couldn't check for pots of gold but I felt very rich for the five minutes that the rainbow made itself visible. 🍀. 

Irish weather was very fortunate while we were there - only rained for short periods while we're transiting between cities. 

After driving a good two weeks around Ireland some of the best motorcycling roads that I would suggest:

1. Gap of Dunloe - absolutely breathtaking scenery on these incredibly narrow roads that are perfect for motorcycles and challenging for cars. 

2. Ride to Downpatrick Head. Stunning views. 

2. Ballyvaughn - the route through Clare Burren looks like the surface of the moon. 

4. Connemara National Park - don't go fast through here because of the sheep crossing the road of their own volition.  Gorgeous views.

Loved the trip and the Irish people are super friendly. I'm actually trying to learn the lyrics to Molly Malone now so I know at least one Irish song to connect with Irish people in the future. 

I also learned that I prefer Irish whiskey flavor to the Scottish peat based version. 

Bike has been in the shop for 39 days with the replacement brake sensor still on backorder. Am looking forward to getting my bike back soon to get some summer riding in. 

Just completed my grand tour of Ireland and  a few questions / observations: 

-Are motorcyclists and bicyclists required to wear high viz gear? I was surprised at how many riders were wearing high viz /neon green/yellow gear. US could learn a lot from the Irish. 

-police cars and emergency motorcycles are also decorated in high viz yellow.  Nice to see that. But it was surprising to see paramedics on motorcycles. In the USA paramedics are only in ambulances. 

-Irish drivers actually observe stoplights and generally don't run red lights like they do here in the USA. First time seeing a timer integrated into a construction stoplight to manage one Lane traffic.

-LOVE the simplicity of Irish signs and their warnings. 

-surprised to see life preserver floatation devices situated at regular intervals across all bridges. If they did that in the USA they'd all be stolen. 

-what does it mean when Irish say "fair play"?

Not a bad idea - everyone wants to stare at the mechanicals of the front end anyways. Might as well show it off and lose some weight in the process. It'd be nice if they enlarged the fuel tank while they're at it.

All right - finally counting down until my lady and I hit Ireland and are doing a grand loop of Ireland and Northern Ireland of almost 10 days. Am learning a lot about driving rules and am excited to re-visit driving a car on the left-hand side of the road with a right-side driving position with a manual. Last time I did this was in Australia many, many years ago. 

Also - not entirely clear how you pay your tolls there. I found this website, Tolling Information | eToll.ie and it sounds like you either get a physical tag (etoll) or enroll in video tolling which is just cameras on your license plates and sending you a bill (which I was surprised to learn that if you didn't register in advance you must pay online before 8PM the subsequent day or get hit with additional penalties/fees). Anyone have pics of what this physical tag/etoll looks like? 

The other surprise was how it switches from metric system in Ireland to Imperial system in Northern Ireland. Didn't even think about how I'm going to have to switch units in the car to ensure I don't get speeding tickets. Also was thinking about driving from Belfast to Malin Point - anything I need to be aware of when crossing the border from the Northern Ireland side to the Ireland side and then back? 

Any other tips from folks would be greatly appreciated.  

Very interesting mod...do you notice a bump in power if you ride with pillion? I've considered this because  I sometimes the long distance with pillion and felt the Niken seemed to struggle why pillion and could  use  the extra power. 

Also, what kind of fuel economy are you getting on average after the modification?

I was wondering how close the color match the GT was to the Shoei blue. I'm seriously considering getting a Shoei AJ Cruise II in the blue if the color match is good.

CJ Maher posted a thread in the Facebook Yamaha Niken Owners forum about difficulty starting in hot weather due to the charcoal canister. Look up CJ Maher post from March 7,2022 for further info.

Apparently the potential issue is with the charcoal canister which has two functions:

1) decrease emissions and

2) to prevent gas fumes from being smelled when off bike.  If you didn't have the charcoal canister, then you might smell fuel vapors coming off your bike in your garage (if you park indoors) and suspect a potential fuel leak. Fuel vapors on hot days apparently trigger an intentional safety designed to prevent the engine from starting because it thinks there might be a fuel leak. 

Downside is higher difficulty with hot day starts.  Yamaha would rather have a problem with inability to start on hot days vs owners incorrectly thinking their bikes might have fuel leaks.

My 2004 bmw r1150r had the same issue. 

Brake lights were working fine, no stickiness whatsoever when trying to activate and release front brake lever.  Only way I suspected this was possibly the culprit was by checking everything else I thought it could be and systematically ruling them out one by one until the recall part was the only thing left. The recall part was actually the brake sensor, not the switch itself. 
 

Authorization from Yamaha to order a new part. Part will take about a week and then install maybe another week due to high service demand prior to full riding season. 

Just heard back from the Yamaha  dealership who confirmed that it is indeed a faulty brake sensor that was installed as part of the worldwide recall service in January 2022 that is preventing the cruise control from working correctly. Dealership is checking with Yamaha of America to verify remediation - do they issue a new brake sensor kit or just order a new part.  More to come. 

Went ahead and dropped my bike off at the local Yamaha dealership for troubleshooting. I still think it has something to do when they performed the brake sensor recall back in January of this year. My cruise control never did work right after that. We will see what happens.

Good looking lights.  Do you have a closer picture of how you mounted the lights?
