  1. Has anyone actually installed driving/fog lights on a Niken GT? Am trying to find actual examples of folks who have installed them successfully and cannot find any examples. Please post photos here if you run across any that have. I'm trying to figure out where you would mount them since I'm not sure that you can mount them on the front suspension tubes. UPDATE: just got off the phone with Clearwater Lights of California who indicated that it is possible to mount their smallest Darla lights on the bottom front fender bolts right in front of the silver part of the suspension. Anything larger than the Darla light will overwhelm this single bolt bracket and you would have to go to an engine protector mount. The one thing they mentioned was that because of the LED lights of the Niken, one cannot tap into the existing high beam wiring to power aftermarket driving lights because of the method used for powering high beam LEDs is different than traditional halogen high beams. One would have to purchase their dimmer switch and run it separately to power the lights, and they confirmed I could not use an Arboreal Systems Neutrino power distribution module to power the Darla lights. Apparently this is becoming more and more of a compatibility problem with bikes utilizing LED headlights - hence why you don't see any photos of Niken's with aftermarket lights. Anyone know of motorcycles with LED stock headlights that are still able to use aftermarket driving lights?
  2. Found some interesting scooter tires for the front end of the Niken. Michelin Pilot Road 4 and Pirelli Rosso's Webike: Motorcycle Parts, Accessories, Gears, OEM parts & Reviews World's largest online store of Motorcycle parts. Huge stock of custom...
  3. Thought I'd do a public service announcement by documenting what it takes to install a topcase on a 2019 Niken GT. I researched between the Yamaha top case and the Givi monokey topcase and decided on the Givi in case I decide to swap with Givi hard panniers in the future and want to use a single key. I called up Givi USA here in Charlotte, NC to confirm part number for the section that needs to be attached to the tail and Givi USA confirmed that the appropriate part was SR2144. Although I found an online reference to SR2143 which appears to be an older version for 2018 Niken(???). Wasn't sure about compatibility so I stuck with Givi recommendation. At the time of writing, could not find this part anywhere in the US. For some reason it was sold out everywhere. I had to order it from Carpi Moto in Genoa Italy to ship via DHL to me. Delivery speed was amazing given that I placed the order on a Thursday and it arrived the following Monday. I fully expected pandemic to delay it considerably more and was pleasantly surprised at delivery speed. Next up, base plate and top case.
  4. Is this normal for Yamaha with a gas opening designed like this? I did my first fill up the other night at my local has station and the fuel pump failed to turn off by itself as it approached full. My '04 BMW R1150R and Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6E had a different design so wasn't sure if this was standard on the Yamaha or unique to the Niken?
  5. Saw this in my owners manual. So washing only and no wax allowed on the matte finish? Is anyone using some kind of alternative paint protection?
  6. Do you have a picture / part identifier for the tool?
  7. Was reviewing my owners manual and saw the following regarding tire recommendations. Is everyone keeping their stock tire recommendations or are you switching? If switching what are you switching to? I saw on Webike Japan that they actually offer Michelin Pilot tires for front and back.
  8. Did you end up keeping it stock or did you find an alternative? Has everyone with a Niken installed a tank protector? I'm not so sure I need one given the upright seating position on the Niken and the matte paint finish. My aerostich suit zippers have a cloth overlap in them that prevents them from rubbing against the gas tank. If yes what kind?
  9. So first priority for accessory upgrades was a battery tender connector. Second for me is a waterproof and lockable hard case. After I washed my bike the other night the contents in my panniers were moist. No way would I put a laptop or tablet in there even if it were in a dry bag. Givi v47 Monokey top case, Monokey M9 plate, and Givi E134S Backrest Pad For V47 Top Cases on order from Revzilla. Carpimoto.it is supplying a SR2144 - Givi SR2144 Yamaha Niken GT Rear Rack specific for Monokey or Monolock Cases (works with M5, M9A, M9B, M8A, M8B, or M5M or M6M). For some reason the SR2144 is sold out everywhere in the US. I confirmed with Givi USA that this was the correct part. Third upgrade will be connecting a Neutrino power distribution module from Arboreal systems to handle my heated gear and temperature settings, in addition to future plans for wiring a Valentine One radar detector as well as auxiliary driving lights. Vehicle Power Distribution | Power Distribution Applications Our vehicle power distribution modules work for many applications... Fourth will be Barkbuster hand guards for winter riding. Fifth will be GPS and mount - most likely a Zumo.
  10. Did you end up keeping it stock or did you find an alternative?
  11. Just ordered a Givi rack from Motostorm.it because they were all sold out here in the US. Good recommendation! Thank you!
  12. Also - anyone ever try Grip Puppies and can comment on whether they're good for long distance touring?
  13. I have to say I'm very pleased that Yamaha was considerate enough to include both a radiator protector and a chain protector in the Niken GT. A lot of motorcycles generally don't include a radiator protector.
  14. As of September 2020, US prices for 2019 new Yamaha Niken GT run anywhere from as low as $13,400 to as high as $17,300 in Cycletrader.com. The Niken GT is a very good bike. However, at $17,300 I would expect hard side cases (think Ducati Multistrada 950s or BMW F900 XR Touring) and the international appeal of something with Italian or German lineage. To me, the Niken GT is a very strong sport touring proposition at the $13k USD level, above that I know I would have gotten a new 950s, F900XR touring, or a 2-3 year old BMW S1000XR or Multistrada 1260 touring.
  15. One of the things that Niken owners should check is rebound and compression damping settings on both front and rear shocks. I just found out my left front was off 2 clicks from my right side. I reset to zero with a flat head screwdriver and made sure they were set equally to standard settings.
  16. Pardon my ignorance - what does the seat adjustment look like?
  17. Ran across this as I was looking at farkle for Niken GT. Anyone upgrade their horns to a Denali air horn or something else? SoundBomb™ Compact Dual-Tone Air Horn LOUD! Stylish! Rugged! Producing an earsplitting 120 decibels of sound, the...
  18. I am 5 ft 11 inches tall with 32 in inseam and I'm only on the balls of my feet with just me on the bike in full gear. I have the same concerns of stability of I bring my lady on it and whether I can keep the top stable. I would definitely say you cannot flatfoot on this bike unless someone offers a low seat height option.
  19. Saw this on the Yamaha Europe site: NIKEN - motorcycles - Yamaha Motor The official product page of the NIKEN. The page contains the technical... Anyone have a photo of this installed? Trying to see what this looks like.
  20. The previous owner of my bike had a full Arkapovic exhaust installed when he ordered it. Nice sound - throaty but not too loud with some nice burbles and pops. I'm not sure that he had the bike tuned after they installed the exhaust though. Still not sure why this site uploads all my photos upside down. Can we upload videos with sound to this site?
  21. Saw online that the Garmin Zumo 595 TPMS (tire pressure management function) will work on the Niken (3 wheel display of tire pressure in all three wheels. Has anyone confirmed this In real life?
  22. Where do folks go to get ideas on accessories for the Niken? Here in the US I generally turn to Revzilla, Twisted Throttle, or the Yamaha US site for ideas. I stumbled across this site in Japan that had access to stuff I've never seen before elsewhere. Webike: Motorcycle Parts, Accessories, Gears, OEM parts & Reviews World's largest online store of Motorcycle parts. Huge stock of custom... Any other suggestions?
  23. Just attached battery tender cables and assembled emergency roadside kit. My emergency roadside kit contains Aerostich mini air compressor, motorcycle jumper cables, LED roadside flare, tire patch kit. What did everyone else have in their oh s### bags?
