  1. I don't suppose anyone from Europe has one of the newest 2023 Nikens already or is on order for one? Would like to see what sequence numbers they're starting with the 2023 production runs and update my worldwide estimates.
  2. Good question on the Bluetooth specification concern. It is primarily due to data security concerns and because I change out cell phone hardware on average every three years. Iphone 13 currently uses Bluetooth 5.0 and Apple frequently rolls out security patches based upon particular specifications. Have heard too many horror stories of folks getting their info hacked and this is one of the few ways one can try to protect their information by using the latest specs with the latest patch updates. I generally try to keep my hardware operating within the same version spec. Call this paranoid or a possible by-product of my day job.
  3. Very good point. You bring up an interesting nuance of Iron Butt. Iron Butt in the USA at least it would all be in English, am curious if anyone has actually completed an Iron Butt with Europe as your primary target region. Just not sure how much time it takes to clear borders and cover the distance required to qualify for Iron Butt in Europe. It's hard enough to qualify in the USA for Iron Butt without border controls and language changes. Just took a peek at the Ironbutt.org website and saw all the crazy levels of IronButt certification one could get. Didn't realize how crazy some of the rides are. Super crazy one was the Around the World Club which was a Ride around the entire globe... Ride List (ironbutt.com)
  4. 7% of 1898 riders surveyed would put it at 133 riders that put in under 1k miles annually, with 44% of 1898 riders = 835 riders clocking under 3k miles or less annually. I too found this surprising because I would have thought riders in UK and Europe would clock in way more scenic miles...could be the cost of petrol is much higher in Europe.

  6. Got this from Santa this week. Very excited in that it will be retiring a 9-year old Schuberth C3 Pro. Shoei J-Cruise II. Pinlock on order. Was considering a Sena SRL2 to go with it until I learned that the bluetooth spec 4.2 is supposed to be deprecated come February 2025. Latest bluetooth spec and deprecation/withdrawal dates can be found at the following: Specifications – Bluetooth® Technology Website. 3 years is not that far off so I'm leaning towards a Cardo Freecom 4X with bluetooth specification 5.1 to push out my bluetooth obsolescence out a few more years.
  7. Decided to take a poll after seeing Bennett survey on motorcyclists. How many miles do you typically ride in a given year?

Glad to see that the battery life has gotten better over time where for the majority of riders (where 51% of riders surveyed by Bennets in the UK said that they ride less than 3000 miles annually on a motorcycle) the battery life should be sufficient. I'm assuming that the majority of these trips are short trips in nature). less than 100 miles round trip).

  10. I like the way the Moto Guzzi Mandello looks. If I hadn't stumbled across my Niken the Moto Guzzi was among my short list of replacement considerations for smaller nimble motorcycle (vs. a K1600 GT or Goldwing). Not gonna lie though, the Niken GT's cruise control and comfortable seating position has spoiled me for future bikes if they don't have it.

  17. 2023 Niken GT differences vs. 2019 Niken GT in my order of importance: NIKEN GT - motorcycles - Yamaha Motor (yamaha-motor.eu) New NIKEN color in Black with black suspension tubes on the front Triple engine displacement increases from 847cc to 890cc, same triple as the MT-09. Meets Euro 5 emission rules More engine torque increase in torque - 66.9lb-ft (vs. 64.5 lb-ft from older Niken) Engine now sits at a five degree more incline than its predecessor New radiator to handle increased engine cooling requirements Revised riding modes and traction control settings Adjustable windscreen with 70 mm of manual adjustment. Hopefully this adjustability helps reduce the need to modify the stock screens with aftermarket touring screens (e.g. Givi/Puig). New seat design addresses better seat height (older seat made it difficult to flat foot if you were shorter than 6 ft/ 183 cm). Heated design comfort seat is also an option. Now comes with hard saddlebags which are more water resistant than the soft panniers of the prior Nikens Quickshift up and down (previously only upshift) Updated 7-inch electronic display with Garmin Motorise mapping app (subscription-based option) and smartphone connectivity New bar controls and heated grips now standard New rear suspension setup utilizing a forged alloy shock linkage that is lighter than the older steel version.   24. Advice for anyone looking to get a NoMar tire changer, one of the biggest hurdles I ran into was mounting it to the floor. You basically have two options. Either permanently mount it to the concrete floor or to some kind of wood/metal base. Because of the sheer force necessary to break some tire beads off the wheel I decided to go the safer route of permanently mounting to my concrete garage floor. To do so, one should have access to an impact hammer as well as special masonry bits to drill holes in the concrete for concrete anchors to fasten into. I suggest a set of Titen HD screw anchors for the job.
  25. Got me one of these to help break the tire bead on my SUV. Introducing the Beadbuster. Should also work well on my Niken tires when it comes time to swap in case the NoMar is unable to easily break the bead. The Beadbuster can be used with regular hand ratchet but is more efficient if you have access to an air/electric impact wrench. I have the air impact wrench and air compressor.
