  1. Glad you're safe! Things can be replaced; people...not so much.

Bigger picture thoughts: perhaps moto isn't the safest form of commuting to work in interstates especially. I avoid interstates as much as possible, opting for secondary highways and two-lane roads. That's where the joy of moto comes in.

Good luck with getting compensation and/or repairs/replacement moto.

  2. Interesting, thanks for following up. I have a '16 FJ-09 and I think it came with heated grips from the factory, but I'm not sure since I'm the 2nd owner. With the menu buttons near the left hand grip, I can cycle through either the menu views or the heated grip setting (Off, 1, 2, 3).

I've ridden in some colder weather this March when I bought the bike, using the heated grips on various settings, but never experienced engine surge of any kind. Definitely would be concerning to feel like you're on a runaway bike almost.

  3. Bought my black '16 FJ-09 with 3800 miles for $7500 OTD. The only extras were the SW Motech engine guards.

Prices will only be going up since used inventory is getting low and the riding season is in full swing. Best bet is to buy during off-season.

Otherwise, if riding is a must and that's the one you like, go for it.

  4. Lubed the chain and checked slack (good there). Aired up both tires, since front was at 30 and rear at 32. Set the front to 40 and the rear to 36.

I then changed the seat to the higher position and also adjusted the rear spring preload to, I believe, 6. Basically one off the last click.

Now to ride it some more and see how my adjustments turned out.

Oh, and put me in the camp with the "rear brake light switch not activating." I'm going to see about that black plastic adjuster nut and the spring. I can't get the rear brake light to work regardless of how much i press the rear brake pedal.

When checking the air pressure on the new bike, be sure to give the front tyre on your Husqvarna lawn tractor a pump or two as well.

Haha, keen eye. It’s been sitting all winter and it does have a slow leak. Nothing a little Fixaflat won’t fix. Should be safe as top speed is a hair-raising 7mph.

For sure, I actually already rode to Lake Geneva this year. It's a wonderful town. Next time I'll let you know when I'm riding around Lake Geneva.

Sounds great, looking forward to it!

Mine had nothing done but oil.  Brake fluid looked like coffee.

Brake fluid still looks amber, but just to be safe I'll have it flushed this year along with coolant. This bike will be a keeper and I like to keep all my equipment in top shape.

  7. Thank you Gents.

Welcome.  Getting a '16 with under 4k miles was a great find.

If you only have 2 lines showing on the fork caps, the spring preload is almost at its maximum setting, you might need to get firmer springs to reduce the fork dive.

Enjoy the bike, it is a fantastic machine.

Thanks! I agree, it was an awesome find. Makes me not feel bad about missing out on that Tracer 900.

Ah, so the front fork is actually way softer than I thought then. I'll look into springs next.

I picked up my 15 last fall with only1k miles on it. Over winter I put .10 fork springs in it, the front needed it worse then the rear.

You'll want to change EVERY fluid in it, probably hasn't been done.

    Bag rails are standard.

The shop just did the oil change, but I will likely need the brake fluid flushed. I'm not too worried about the coolant just yet.

    Welcome,

What part of Wisconsin are you from. I usually ride to Ferryville WI about 45 minutes south of La Crosse. It's one of my favorite northern routes near me.

Just look at all those curvy roads. The smaller side streets are usually on the slower speeds. However, the main streets you can fly by, 80 MPH plus on a curve. Just be careful you can get air sometimes.

Greetings to a fellow Eastern European ;) I'm very near Lake Geneva, just over the IL border north of Harvard, IL actually. Maybe we can set up a ride one of these days.

  8. Thank you for the warm welcome.

Yes, the bike IS clean for being a 2016. It's a 1-owner bike with 3850 miles on the odo before I drove it home.

It has the SW Motech crash bars and reflective wheels stripes, but I don't detect much else in the way of farkling. Are saddle bag rails standard?

The windscreen was at its lowest setting, which actually did pretty well to keep my head from bobbing around too much at speed. I just adjusted it to the middle setting, raising it by 1 inch. We'll see how that works, before I move it up to the last notch.

The next adjustment is the rear spring preload, which is set 1 below standard. I'll finagle with it and probably end up at the 6 setting. Then I need to adjust front preload, as it dips way too much during normal braking. I only see 2 rings showing on the front fork preload.

  9. Hi All,

Joining you from thawing Wisconsin, finally picked up my 2016 FJ-09 and brought her home. I've already perused through the many helpful threads here and I've got plans for this FJ, including the oil plug mod and others.

I'm moving up from a 2008 FZ6 that I rode about 5 yrs and put 12k+ miles on, it was the right time in my life. Now that we're settled, I needed another bike to enjoy in my spare time and on these country roads around my neck of the woods.

Thank you for having me, looking forward to being a contributing member.

  10. @SilverSteve, if you're still looking, there's a 2019 Tracer 900 (nonGT) in my neck of the woods. It's listed for $8500 but with all their fees and what not, you'd be at $9600 OTD.

I offered $9k and they wouldn't budge... So I got my FJ-09 instead.

The Tracer 900 is still available if anyone is interested:

PRACTICALITY PLUS PERFORMANCE Adaptable performance, good value...

They've got a couple MTs as well, I rode an MT-09 to sample the CP3 motor and loved it.

It is a leftover 2019 model with (when I saw it) zero miles on the odo! If I could have made the deal work, it'd be mine today, but hopefully someone can give it a good home.

  11. Indeed, most bikers around my area will be riding cruisers. We're almost ready for the riding season, once this snow dries up this week.

Looks like I've got a fair amount of reading to do; many of the questions I have are likely to already be answered. Glad to have found this forum.
