  1. bwringer,

Don't know if you have installed FJR pegs on yours yet, but these really helped the foot vibes on mine!

You probably didn't notice in the short time you rode mine last summer but I like 'em. And, I've stood on them quite a bit without any disastrous results, so far!🤞

I absolutely despise winter here in central Kentucky for a number of reasons, one is which not being able to ride.  Wanted to move south after retirement but have too much family in this area to leave.

At the slightest sign of snow or ice they dump huge amounts of salt on the roads here.  If we have the least bit of snow late in the winter the salt on the roads lingers into rideable weather.  It just sucks.

At least we have a lot of great roads in the area once spring arrives.  This and the fact that the cost of living here is very reasonable and central Kentucky is really beautiful.

    I agree!

That's why I normally buy a "project" bike for the winter months. This year it's a 1982 Suzuki GS1100E! For me, turning wrenches on a classic bike is better than sitting and staring out the window at snow or salt covered roads.

Plus, I get a new addition to the stable, if I keep it!

  3. I just ordered a set of Shinko Verge X2 for my bike to try. I know they will not be comparable to the major brands as far as mileage, but I do my own tire changes, and for $262 for the set I figured why not???

I run Shinkos' on my vintage bike just because I like new, fresh rubber, as I only ride it about 4K miles per year, and the Shinkos' last that long, giving me new tires every season.

I will be doing some aggressive "following" in about 3 weeks in southern Indiana, and we shall see how they perform on a Tracer.

This list has lots of areas on it that I find very boring! I agree that the Dragon only needs to be ridden once each way, and then explore and ride some of the areas' really good roads. Do not miss the Ozarks if you like "high-speed sweepers"!

  5. Cogswell,

In case you did not know. Rocky Mountain ATV has a warehouse and store in Winchester, KY that you can go and pick up parts if they are in stock. (Saves shipping costs also.) Has saved my bacon more than once! Just be sure to call their 800 number to place your order and verify that the part is in Winchester and not Utah!

  6. I just purchased a set of tires for one of my other bikes and the price increased $20 for the set, from Thursday afternoon to Friday morning! Luckily Rocky Mountain ATV M/C does price matching so I did get a small discount. They told me that tire pricing is changing almost daily right now. I guess the lesson here is "if you see a good price, jump on it!"

  7. I got the extended warranty for the "peace of mind" whenever I choose to do a longer road trip. For me, the thought of being far from home and on the side of the road with a broken bike is not appealing in the least.

Also, as bwringer referenced, I have to travel an hour to get to a decent Yamaha dealer, (my local Yamaha stealer, I mean, dealer, only is interested in ATV's), so I visited another one an hour away, before I purchased the warranty. I made sure to inquire about how they viewed YES warranty repairs. I was impressed and that added into the decision to go ahead with purchasing the warranty.

For what it costs, (around $100 per year for me), I hope I never have to use it, but it's there if I need it! Also, if I decide to sell the bike, it potentially adds some value to a buyer.

  8. I put those pegs on my 2020 Tracer 900GT and it probably has been the best "mod" that I have done! Really reduced the foot vibrations. Makes longer trips a lot more comfortable. I stand on mine quite often and have not had any issues with them. I was skeptical because of the low price, (I think I got mine off of fleabay for less than $10) but they seem to be well made.

Let me know how it matches!  Was that the only width available?  Although the side panels are metallic copper, the OEM pinstriping is anything but...it's pretty flat, and it's a shade of orange/brown/copper that I couldn't name if my life depended on it.

Got it today and it DOES NOT MATCH! Way too much "chrome" colored. Oh well! Gotta keep looking I guess.
