Traffic and drivers certainly played into my decision as well.  Thought about a Tenere 700 a number of times.  My Tracer 900 GT didn't like gravel roads (may have been me) and I've wondered how much better a Tenere 700 would have been on gravel.  Now I have 4 wheels so won't fall over LOL.

The T700 would definitely be way better than the Tracer off road, the question is whether we would be. My position is that at least I shouldn’t be the limiting factor. Now that’s not to say that an off-road guru riding a Tracer wouldn’t be better than me riding Tiger, but at least now I have possibilities.

I will miss communicating with you.  We had such similar bike tastes, S1000r, R1200RS, Tracer 900GT
Enjoy the new bike.  My 2019 GT is at 25,000K and will be close to 30k this year.  so probably an upgrade to a 2021 next winter
As I have a dedicated dual sport BMW G450x I am leaning towards the 9GT or the BMW XR i.e. pavement/track only as my second bike.

Yes we do have similar tastes, I guess except when it comes to the dash in the ‘21 T9GT, since it seems to be acceptable for you but a deal breaker for me. 😁

I will confess I had to look up the BMW G450X - sounds like a cool enduro bike and would make a hugely different alternative to any support road bike.

Continued good luck with the 2019 Tracer and its replacement.

I sold mine as well. Decision was motivated by how my only street bike owning friend got creamed and almost died. No fault of his own at all.  I love the Tracer and wish I could have kept it but this is a one bike house.  Picked a practically brand new 2022 Tenere 700.  All my other friends have adventure bikes.  Figured if I can survive the trip to the forests, it will decrease my chances of being taken out by being off pavement.  So far I'm loving the slowed pace and the off-road rides.  There is so much traffic now and people simply only care about themselves. Be safe out there brothers and keep the rubber side down.

Good luck and enjoy the Tenere 700. I still commute and like to tour on my bikes, but I appreciate what you are saying regarding other careless / distracted persons using the road. Good luck to all of us out there.

Just followed the link in your previous post.

Ahhhh … when I posted that they had not put it online yet so I didn’t know the price. They only put it up today with the price and you must have searched on their site. 🙂

I am very surprised that they put it at that price, to say the least. Shouldn’t last long. I would bet that they don’t realize that there are bag liners and an extra windscreen and various bits and packages in the panniers … that would be a nice surprise for the new owner.

We’re going to miss your forthright views on here Grumpy.  We need more characters like you. Ride safe and enjoy the Triumph.

Thanks for the kind words, Paddy. I will also miss the knowledge-sharing and pleasant chat here, in addition to the Tracer. I will continue to be an ambassador for the model, as I truly believe that it is one of the very best options in the sport tourer category.

I assume you’re on the north side of Houston?   The Yankee Tavern near Anderson is a good lunch spot, and has the added benefit of being right by 3090 for some nice riding.

Orsaks in Fayetteville is an old favorite, along with The Hill & Newmans Bakery in Bellville.   Royer’s in Round Top is outstanding as well.   I’m sure there are 100’s more great little places scattered about… finding them is half the fun.

The Kenney Store is just a bit south of Brenham.  It’s fun, food is good, and draws a large motorcycle crowd for lunch on nice weekend weather days.

Glad the Tiger is working for you.  Enjoy!

Yes I know the Yankee Tavern and Orsaks, where some friends and I went for pie after a ride. Went to some place in Round Top years ago and had a burger which was great. I usually ride by myself to give the bikes some exercise, and don’t usually stop for anything until I get home.

I hate to see you go but you will enjoy the Tiger.
I was torn between the Tiger 900 GT (or 850 Sport) and the Tracer 9 GT.
More road riding led to the Tracer.

    Take care

I can agree with you on that score. If you are only going to ride on the road then I think that the Tracer 9 GT would be a better choice than the Tiger 900 GT as far as the powertrain goes. I like the sweetness of the Tracer's CP3 triple better than the T-plan crank and the 1-3-2 firing order of the Tigers, although I suppose I understand the need in the Rally versions. I was initially looking at the Tiger 900 GT but when I found that I could touch the ground on the Rally similarly to the Tracer (both seats in the low position) I decided to go with the Rally Pro.

I wish you all the best with your new bike, as it sounds like a great choice.   And welcome to the Triumph family!  They have the ownership experience well sorted.  I bought my Speed Twin at Bell County Motorworks in Temple, but am also very familiar with Woodlands Premium… good folks to deal with.

You’re right that time is short, so I think I’m going riding today!   Lunch at Kenney Store, perhaps?

    -Scott

Thanks Scott. So far I like it enough. :) I just went for a short ride before it got too hot and hit some pleasant twisties not too far away from my house and came back home in time for lunch here. Bike is growing on me especially since this is the test ride I should have been able to take before buying it. Handles very well on the road in the twisty stuff with that 21" front wheel.

Never been to the Kenney Store (since I never heard of it) ... will give it a try one of these days.

Too bad that you are leaving, I still post on a BMW site now even though I sold my 2009 K1300GT. There is info on sites that may not be specific to your bike but may provide insight.

Thanks Barry but time is too short. I run my own RS forum and supposedly moderate another, in addition to following along on the Tracer (and now Tiger) forum. But it’s true what you say that some stuff could be useful to all motorcycles.

  10. Well after just shy of 2 years I have sadly parted with my beloved 2019 Tracer 900 GT, having traded it yesterday on a 2023 Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro. I have learned much on this Forum about the Tracers, and while I too look forward to seeing what the new T9GT+ will be in the flesh, I have decided to change direction on my second bike a little ... more toward the offroad side. Riding the two bikes back to bad as I did yesterday, the Tracer triple is still sublime, and I will miss that smoothness in its nature especially on long distance trips. The Triumph triple is quite different and will take getting used to.

Anyway, that's it for now. I expect that my Tracer will be listed soon on the website of Woodlands Premium Motorcycles here in the Houston area, so if someone here is looking for a well-cared-for Tracer 900 GTwith all the useful mods I have installed you can check them out. Take care, y'all.

If I think someone behind me is using adaptive cruise control…..I start slowing down.

My adaptive cruise control is me.

I want drivers to pay attention to their driving and not rely on a computer to do so.

Why? They will just slow down to match you and they will still be there.

I use adaptive cruise control (in my car) and I pay attention to my driving as it is possible to do both. Using ACC does not necessarily mean that one will pay less attention to what is going on. The important thing is that they are following at a safe distance behind you - something that is set with the ACC system.

Also, as far as I am aware, vehicles with ACC also have the ability to apply brakes if they sense an emergency so even if the person were to have a lapse of attention the car would keep the situation safe.

    To each his own.

I use a SW-Motech micro tank bag. Just a small bag for the convenient stuff you need direct on the road and easy to carry when off the bike.

I have the EVO type which is discontinued, but available in a PRO version as well.

Same here. Works well and SWMotech gear are typically excellent quality, and this tank bag is no exception.

No it is with normal shifting sometimes up and most of the time down that I feel the click. When I use the quick shifter I’m not touching the lever. It’s mostly on a clutch downshift.

Thanks for making that clarification. Since I don't have an autoblipper on my Tracer I cannot comment from personal experience on that bike, but I suspect that it is normal and part of the "feel" that you get with a cable actuated clutch.

Just learn the gas consumption characteristics of the motorcycle and dont make mountains out of molehills. Seems to be a trend……

But isn't that what forums are for ...? 😁 Especially during winter months or heat waves ... ?

When I shift, especially down shift, I can feel it through the clutch lever. It’s like a click. Is this normal? I’ve never had a quick shifter and am wondering if this is a characteristic. The clutch seems to be adjusted correctly. I did buy the bike used. Thanks.

My BMW has an autoblipper (as opposed to my 2020 Tracer 900GT) and when I do a clutchless downshift (or upshift) I do not feel it through the clutch lever. That bike has a hydraulic clutch. Other bikes I have ridden with auto blippers and hydraulic clutches work similarly to my BMW. My Tracer is the first bike I have ridden (as far as I can recall) that has a quickshifter and a cable clutch and I do not believe that clutchless shifts up transmits anything to the clutch lever, but then I am not feeling for it either, i.e. when I an quickshifting up my fingers are not on the clutch.

One of the "reasons" I have found people like to use to justify a cable clutch (or excuse a lack of a hydraulic clutch) is for more "feel". I have not had the need for that feeling ...

I often wonder, is there just more junk on American roads? Or maybe just particular regions?...

Wasn't until I moved here that I saw all sort of crap on the road that I have never seen ... matresses, recliners, angle iron, parts of cars, etc. etc. I got several punctures here with various kinds of nail and once with a small allen wrench, if you believe that ... punched 2 hotes in my tire!

I wouldn't say it did nothing, it helped a bit but it definitely didn't solve the problem. The seat was more level than before, yes, but it still had a distinct downward slope toward the tank. See the picture I attached of my bike. I ordered a Corbin seat a few hours ago, very keen to see how that feels.

    Screenshot 2023-06-22 200022.jpg

Oh, thanks for the picture ... says a thousand words. That does not look too bad at all, actually. I think I could actually live with that, as there is a bit of a flat portion to the seat and the slope is reduced.

I live in the US and purchased the OEM Tracer 9 heated comfort seat (Yamaha PN B5U-247C0-10-00) in April 2022 from KFM-Motorraeder in Germany. I can confirm it works fine with the US bike and plugs right in and works. I was hoping it would help/solve the forward sloping issue with the stock seat but it doesn't, even with the shim kit from jk3d. Probably going to try out a Corbin.

Hmmmm ... now a testimonial in the other direction, i.e. that the Comfort Seat does nothing for the slope flaw even with the shim kit. Thanks for the feedback.
