Hi everyone!
So I've installed the Madstad wind shield and at 5'7", found it super effective, a significant improvement over the un-usable stock shield. It is maybe 85%-90% of the way there, but in windy conditions, I can still get some degree of buffeting on the helmet regardless of how high or what angle the shield is.
I played around with blocking wind with my hands and realized that if I place my hands to block the bucket-loads of wind coming up through this gap in the fairing, the buffeting totally disappears and I'm left in blissful tranquility. I really do think these massive fairing gaps are a major wind management weakpoint on this kind of bike
Anyways, I'd love to cover this area. I've seen polycarbonate covers on some bikes for this area, but I don't know how well it would work on the Tracer (mostly because of the key placement). I was wondering if any of you guys have any experience or maybe some ideas on closing this gap. Maybe we can get a brain-storming session going. Accommodating the forks, bar risers, and key are the major challenges. I've honestly been thinking about installing something on the other side, at the bottom of the fairing - not sure how feasible that is though.
And just to pre-empt anyone mentioning it, I agree that going small is usually the best answer to wind protection, and what I've done for most of my short riding life. But it would be nice for colder weather seasons to have a more protective option I can toss on the bike if required.
Thanks in advance for any input!
