Premium Member chadman Posted December 30, 2016 Premium Member Share Posted December 30, 2016 Hello everyone! I just picked up my FJ yesterday. Stoked! I've been riding off and on since the 80's, but have been out of bikes for the last few years. Man, I found out how rusty your skills can get on the ride home from the dealer yesterday. Crazy! Think I'll be hanging in B-Mode for a while! I have young kids at home so my riding time will pretty much be limited to commuting (I love spending time with my kids!), but if there's some sort of forum meet-up happening from time to time I'll see if I can get out for that. Group rides are fun, and we're surrounded by awesome roads here. Anyway, that's it for now. I'll be lurking around! xlxr
Welcome. What part of So Cal? I live close to Mission Motorsports in Irvine. Lots of different riding groups on Meet Up.com. I am not aware of any regular FJ 09 rider group around here.

Maybe something in the spring? I love all the local roads, and also roads like Lockwood that head out to the 33. So much great riding up here! cranky
I forget how much is considered Southern California. Living in San Diego I forget there is a lot more to it. A road trip would be great though. I'd love to see more of the state.
Premium Member chadman Posted January 2, 2017 Author Premium Member Share Posted January 2, 2017 In my non-expert opinion, anything below Santa Barbara is "SoCal". San Diego has some awesome roads with Palomar and Ortega, but a ride up Hwy 1 thru Big Sur is a must if you haven't done it yet. Usually best combined with a trip up to Laguna Seca for whatever races are going on. bobaintstoppin
Hey chapman, Can I bump into this thread to ask a question? Every year I go to the races with a friend. Being an east coster, we go to Road Atlanta, or Watkins Glen etc. But I always think Laguna Seca would be a lot of fun. Pics suggest it is a near perfect track for actually being able to see the cars race (rather than trying to look over the guard rails). Can a person actually afford to fly in to Laguna area and actually afford the motels around there? What kind of investment would be required for a long weekend there? Salinas is much cheaper, pretty close to the track, but not as nice. The secret is to book well ahead. I have some friends that book their rooms for the next year on their way out of the hotel. "Back in the day" we used to put 6 or so of us in a room to save $$, but you're probably looking at a min of $150 a night and more likely $300 a night for somewhere you really want to stay.
