stevesweetz
Note that not all 180/55 tires have the same amount of roundness. I just got a set Metzeler Roadtec 01s and they are noticeably rounder in profile than the stock Dunlops. I've touched down the peg feelers a few times with both sets of tires, and there's way more chicken strip left on the Metzelers than the Dunlops after doing do. Did it make the bike a little quicker handling? Well, I like to think the bike feels a little quicker on initial turn in, but also I have a healthy self-awareness about the phenomenon of confirmation bias. Without any kind of empirical test, it's hard to say for sure. I'm sure anyone who moves to 170s would say it makes a world of difference, but there's definitely a little personal ego wrapped up in thinking you know what's good for the bike better than the manufacturer, which could influence that perception. dbeau
Don't forget that fresh tires always feel like they perform better than old used up tires even of the same size/brand/model
