In a time when I can walk into pretty much any local dealership and buy a new ‘23 or ‘24 700 Tenere the Transalp is still hard to come by and still are selling for full MSRP when I have seen them. I think Honda has a winner on their hands.

Ya, they're very popular.   I think I lucked out when I got $600 off on mine, plus they installed a bunch of accessories no charge.

That makes some sense, but perhaps they could make one higher tiered model with a price to match? Kind of like what Yamaha has done with the MT-09, when compared to the MT-09 SP. Kind of surprised Yamaha hasn't done that with the Tenere 7, in particular since the outdated Super Tenere doesn't sell so well these days. That engine in your bike is worth buying just for that reason alone, but I understand that both the Yamaha and Suzuki parallel twins are pretty nice as well......but Honda nailed it.

Sure is a sweet powerplant.  Not the same HP as the Tracer, but I'm satisfied.

This is the first year Honda brought the Transalp to North America.   I'm sure they will bring different iterations in time.

Up and down on is standard on the Transalp.   Down is perfect,  up works best with lots of RPM and throttle.

Any shortcomings are always in the eyes of the beholder, but factory cruise "for me" is now something I can't ride without. Doubt there are alot of people that buy motorcycles and keep them dealership stock for long, and that was occurring long long before forums. ;)

I really like the Trans Alp overall and it should be a homerun for Honda, sounds like you are liking your choice of machine as well.

My 900 GT was the first bike I've owned with cruise, and I loved it.  The lack of cruise was, almost, a deal breaker for me with theTransalp.  I use cruise all the time in any vehicle and I'm looking forward to getting my Veridian kit.

Theory is that Honda is trying not to step on Africa Twin sales by equipping the Transalp too well.  Basic suspension,  no CC, no IMU, etc.

I am still floored that factory CC isn't an option.

So much speculation (and whining 😉) about the lack of CC.   Like I mentioned though, the Veridian system is affordable.   There's other, more upscale, CC options too.  Like most bikes, there's lots of areas of the bike to upgrade/modify to make it suit you.  I bet there's a lot of people that buy bikes and just ride them as they are from the dealership ... until they start hanging out on forums and "learn" about all the bike's shortcomings.   😁

  7. The more I ride mine the more I like it.  Every bike has its shortfalls.   You either learn to live with it or learn to fix it.  My Veridian cruise control should arrive soon so that'll be one thing crossed off the list.  Don't know of I'd even bother with getting an ECU flash, if one comes available. I don't think it runs that bad.

That was fast this time. Congratulations. Coming to Bancroft this year on new bike?

Planning on Bancroft ... weather dependent.  Roads up here are still covered with sand and salt.   We got a few inches of snow last night, which didn't help.

  9. Well, figure I might as well finish where I started.  The Tracer is gone.  I posted it up for sale and a guy offered me a very fair amount to take it off my hands.  Looking forward to focusing on putting miles on my Transalp.

Good luck and rubber side down to all.

Glad it all mostly worked out in the end. Now you'll just have to keep the bike a long time to get that annual cost of ownership down to an acceptable level.

It's been a weird winter in MN. I have more miles on my motorcycles than I do on snowmobiles.

Buying non-titled vehicles (four-wheelers, dirtbikes, snowmobiles, etc...) in MN can be a real stressful situation. I always ask for proof of ownership by registration and sales receipt. If they don't want to provide that, then that's a deal breaker.

For liens, you can do a UCC search but that is super expensive if you purchase it yourself and most banks won't do it unless you are financing with them.

I recently dropped $12,500 large on a used snowmobile, and even when you try to take all the precautions, you still walk away not feeling 100% sure...

Nice sled.  Love the XC's.  Can't make it out on my phone ... 850 or 650?

    -36 C !!!!!  🥶  I took a look at the temperature of my freezer and it's 'only' -18 C.

How does anything outside even survive in those kind of temperatures?!  Wow!

Dress right and it's not that bad.  There are lots of people that regularly deal with colder.  Worse I've dealt with, here, was a couple of -44°C days.  Hydro went out and nothing would start so no generators for power. Lucky for us we were in a place with a wood stove so we were warm. Pain in the ass with no running water though.

Bloody hell, I complain here if a winters day gets below 15*C.

We've had a crazy mild winter so far ... think -10ºC is about the coldest.  A few days were up to +6ºC.  I would have ridden but the roads are a mess of salt and sand.  It can get cold here, and I'm not even that far north.

Would you be willing to sell the rider seat by itself?  if so, what price would you need for it?  I don't need the passenger seat.

Work a deal on the seats and tell him to throw the passenger seat in the garbage.  That way he'll save a couple of bucks on shipping and pass the savings on to you.

  14. Anyone else having problems logging in?  For the last while, every time I try to access my account I get an error message, saying my information is incorrect.  Try a second time and my account gets locked.  The only way I can get access to the site is to change my password ... more than a bit of a pain in the ass.  Use the "Change Password" function and I'm in, which is interesting when my account is supposedly "Locked".  Try and login later, even within hours of changing my password, and I get the error message again.  It seems that the "Try again in 14 minutes" is bogus too because I initially tried waiting but would get the locked message even days later.  I use either my phone or my computer to access the site so it's not like I'm in lots of different locations, using different machines.

Initially, I was worried that my account had been hacked after all the bot posts we were getting but it's been going on for a while now.  I tried reaching out to admin, though the "Contact Us" at the bottom of the page, and haven't heard back.  Changing my password every time I want to access the site is getting old very fast.  I know I bought a Honda but I still have my Tracer.  Really not feeling the love!  🤬🤬

No one else mentioned that the higher price oem kit includes a whole new throttle tube / grip and throttle shell top half that makes for a LOT cleaner wire clutter free install.

I just wish the oem, like Oxford and other AM kits had a slightly larger ID in the left grip to permit adding tape or shrink tubing over the bar to insulate it so heat didn't conduct back into it making the grip that much hotter.

The throttle tube does that on the right.

I've used Magic Wrap on the left side of any bike I installed heated grips on.  Helps a lot.  Make sure you apply it from the right to left so the tape overlaps are covered and don't peel up.  Cheap solution that worked for me.

  16. I was doing some research on Scotoiler stuff for my new Transalp and came across some Touratech crash bars at 1/2 price, and from a Canadian supplier no less.  Maybe someone could use them.  Sure won't fit my TA.  😉

    Hi, all.

With winter set in and no window to ride until at least March of next year, I’m going to work on lowering my 2019 Tracer. If anyone has a set of 15mm lowering links they would like to sell to a vertically challenged rider, I’m all ears. Thanks!

FWIW ... I removed the cover from my seat and carved a bunch of foam out of the rear.  It helped with the forward slope and the height.  Not a huge change in height.  Maybe 3/4", or so.  Basically, left the ridge around the back of the seat to keep the original profile, then scooped out the centre section.  The yellow, sort of, outlines where I removed foam.
