  1. I found the first Tracer I made a deal on had an outstanding lien when I was standing in the owner's driveway to pick it up.  Told me they couldn't clear the lien until they had my money.  I walked away.  The girl at the bank was surprised when I came back with the bank draft and had her cancel it.

  2. Not looking forward getting to the air filter ... especially the first time. Figure it'll be similar to my old V-Strom ... inconvenient, but no big deal once you've done it once or twice.

Think I got out for my last, last ride of the season last Thursday.  It's getting too cold ... I had to use my mini torch on the lock on my utility trailer this morning to thaw it.

Yeah, I’ve had one of those on my desk for a couple of weeks. Unfortunately I can’t undo it to fit or fill it. I’m normally pretty good at opening stuff, and I’ve tried a range of chemical solutions, but no luck. It was apparently done up by the Chinese Tom Stoltman. A trip to the old man’s vice may be in order.

A vice may be a little extreme.  I'd try a strap wrench first.  Less likely to dent/scratch/crush it.

Got to sit on a 2024 TransAlp today at Martin Moto in Boyertown PA. It had heated Grips installed from the factory even though they weren't evident at first. (They were available through the menu with no switches on the grips themselves.) Not sure if it's a 23/24 thing, but it seems it's only some of the European bikes that come without? It wasn't that bad for me with a 29" inseam, something the optional low seat may help with.

Top Sellerie out of France has a seat out too.

For 2023 & 2024 models, the heated grips are an option.

I have the low seat on my Transalp and I can almost flatfoot with a 30" inseam.

How's the TransAlp for power delivery? If I didn't already have a DRZ, I might be looking at the TransAlp, Tenere, V-Strom 800, etc. But I think I'm in the market for something more street/touring biased.

Transalp is pretty sweet.  Check out reviews.  Very competent road bike, with some gravel/dirt capabilities.  I plan to use it to tour.  Very comfortable and better wind management than my Tracer.  I have family around the west ... Kelowna, Lethbridge, Vancouver and Victoria.  Plan to couch surf ... um ... visit, most of them next summer.

I got out for, what I think was, my last ride of the season.  Even with handguards, heated grips and lots of layers, I got home with a chill after more than an hour at 4ºC.

I didn't notice this before, but the appraiser provided an incredibly detailed breakdown of parts estimated to be required to put it back the way it was pre-collision and the cost of those parts: over $14000 in parts alone!

Now, if I were to be rebuilding the bike, I would not be replacing a lot of that stuff that was just cosmetically damaged. But still. Yikes.

The headlight assembly alone runs $1300.

I'll sell you mine and deliver it in the spring.  The bike has just under 22,000 kms on it now.  It would have another 4,500 by the time it got to you.  😏

  7. Glad you ended up with a bike, at least ... even if your quest for inexpensive was blown out of the water.

Just make sure you get enough smiles from it to offset the BS.

LOL... the drum beats a little louder now for sure. I think I will cool my heels a bit and wait for kinks to get ironed out with this first gen release. The AT forum will be good to follow in the meantime. Great to see it hit our market for sure.

It has been out in Europe for a year and the base architecture (Hornet) a year prior to that.  Think the kinks should be ironed ... at least I hope so.

Man, I am intrigued by this bike. I love the Tracer but it’s not really fulfilling the role I actually bought it for. Might be time to shake things up a bit……

    Worked for me.  😉

How does it feel between the knees when underway? The seat on the TA looks more IN than ON the bike... does it feel fatter or narrower than the Tracer? Fatter would be gooder, for me. 🙂

Yup ... in, less than on.  I definitely had more room to shift forward and back on the Tracer.  Feels much more natural between the knees, for me.  Not sure if it's because it's easier to position my heels or just that the tank is wider at the back.

I'd be happy to let you sit on it if you're up in this area (no keys in the ignition though 🤪).

Okay.  Just did a little research ... think the knee difference for me is due to footpeg location.  On the Tracer, my thighs angle down more than the TA so my knees don't nestle the back of the tank ... and I have the lower seat on my TA which adds to the angle because my butt is another 20cm lower.

I just purchased a 2017 FJ09 and found a Puig Touring screen. It did not come with the bracket and hardware to move the alien looking hand guards. Removed the stock screen and bolted in the Puig. The hand guard do hit the screen but I took a cautious test ride and did U-turns on the street and was able to stay on the paved part with out falling due to the guards hitting the touring screen. I did not think it would work. I'm thinking of going to bark buster hand guards and right now currently going to search if they will clear with the touring screen.

How much do the handguards hit the screen?  I have a PUIG touring screen, that I cut down, on my 2020.  I'm just using the stock mounting brackets and the bottom of the screen would contact the front bodywork on my bike.  I got 4 hard rubber spacers (about 1/4" thick) and used longer bolts.  That moves the screen out enough to clear when I set it in the low position.  Mine is a 2020 so I may be suggesting how to fix your peach with my apple repair.  😉

  12. Can't speak for Ride365 but I know I don't enjoy the way you pontificate on most topics that come up.

Should I simply bow to your superior intellect and experience?

Oh, and not to be pedantic but that would be a pissing match you refuse to get in, not a passing match.

He is a very opinionated fella if you haven't noticed before?

    Certainly noticed.

Opinions are like assholes ... we all have them but, because you have one it doesn't mean you have to be one.  😆
