  1. I stopped by my local dealer to buy some spark plugs, 10,000 miles. While there I asked about the CCT TSB. I had them all convinced to replace the CCT when the lead mechanic said the noise was from the clutch. Their recomendation was to use Yahmalube full synthetic rather than the Mobil I 4T I am using. Will keep my fingers crossed that it does not fail. What is the best full synthetic oil to use in southern California?
  2. I too have this helmet but in gloss black. Great helmet, quiet, light, good ventilation. One thing you have to be carefull with is the latches. You have to check that they close right, this is more of a problem when the helmet is not on your head. Great helmet, just completed a 1300 mile ride in 6 days. Temps went up to 111 deg F, ventilation was good. I did ride with visor up most of the time.
  3. I too use the Midland CB, I know old school but the group I ride with uses cb for coms. I mounted the cb to the modified handguards. I have a Firestick anntena mounted on the top box bracket. I use a Sena bluetooth adapter to connect to my helmet system.
  4. The washers and nuts were just a quick fix. I plan on making a custom bushing that would work and look better.
  5. Photo of bike with Yamaha lowering links and Higdonion cage. I also installed Soupys adjustable kickstand.
  6. I installed the Yamaha links without any major problems. I was able to do it by myself in the parking lot. To get everything to line up to get the links in I used a lever under tire, long screwdriver. Seriously think about getting a real skid plate to protect the oil pan. I blew mine out on a speed bump after lowering. I now have the new style pan and the Higdonion cage skidplate.
  7. I puchased the usb outlet on amazon, it was less than $20. I have a phone that really sucks up the juice so I got an outlet that has a 2.1 amp and a 1 amp ouput. I wired it to the battery with a 7 amp fuze. This way I can listen to tunes from my phone while working on bike.I used a sae connector so i can disconnect it if the bike is going to sit more than a week. There is a small led light that is on all the time.
  8. I recently started riding with the SCRC motorcycle club. They use CB for bike to bike comunication. I installed a Midway portable cb, and a Sena SR10 two-way radio adapter and a Sena SMH10R headset. The headset works great, much louder than the Uclear system. Have not had a chance to try out the CB yet. Power is supplied from the oem 12 volt outlet and the usb outlet I installed in the the extra outlet hole. I can add an external antenna if needed. Will try entire system on a group ride Sunday, weather permitting.
  9. I finished up my install of the Higdonion crash bars and skid plate. I was able to use my Cree led lights with Pia mounts. These replace my SW Motech bars. I do not think they protect the engine as well but with the engine covers they should be just fine. I should never have to replace the oil pan again. I then went for a 100 mile ride on twisty mountain roads.
  10. I went for a 230 mile ride through the mountains to break in my new custom Bill Mayers Seat. They are a local seat builder in Ventura, CA. , that also does mail order seats. I did the ride in option. It took 3 hours from ride in to ride out to build the seat to fit my butt and my riding style. It is a huge improvement over the Yamaha low seat. The height came out somewhere between the low and the standard seat. Cost for rider seat in vinyl was about $500.
  11. Today I installed my new oil pan to replace the one I damaged on a speed bump. It took about 3 hours. I did it myself using the center stand, did not remove any wheels. I also left the O2 sensor in place, just undid the connector. I used Permatex Aviation sealer on the gasket and blue thread locker on every bolt. I am waiting on my new skid plate from Higdonion.
  12. I bought a set. There are no instructions. This is what i came up with. Have not rode the bike yet with them, cracked oil pan, but they might keep your hands warmer. Time will tell. Will review after new oil pan is installed and I ride the bike.
  13. Ordered Higdonion adventure cage with skid plate. About a week ago I cracked the oil pan on a speed bump. I have a new oil pan on order but do not want to do this again. I will be selling my SW Motech bars on here for cheap when the new skid plate is installed.
  14. Good write up. I cracked the pan on a speed bump yesterday. I will be replacing oil pan as soon as it arrives. A couple of questions. Will the exhaust rotate if you use the center stand? Did you use a new pan gasket? Is gasket sealer required?
  15. Today I installed pyramid plastix front fender extender. It took about an hour. I had to remove the fender, 4 hex screws, then the brake line holders, clean, stick extender on with included foam tape, drill 4 mm (5/32) holes then install plastic rivits. There is a good video on Youtube. Then install fender. The wlole thing took about an hour.
