  1. So, depending on the keys, a locksmith may or may not help. If you have the flat bladed security keys, they might tell you there’s nothing you can do. That’s what they told me on my Givi V47 top case 🙂

The good news is that a decent drill bit can be used to destroy the lock core wafers, and then you can open it with a flat blade screw driver. And the replacement lock cores are very easy to install. I got mine from Revzilla.

On that trip, full loaded, how did the bike perform? Suspension? Power?

It did just fine. I didn’t hammer it as hard as I would have on a solo day trip, but at no point did it feel like the bike was holding me back. I went a bit slower in the sharp corners so as to keep the wife happy, but acceleration even uphill was still great.

If you believe everyone who rides is your brother...and waving makes us one, part of a community...you are sadly mistaken.

You've never been snubbed by HD and BMW riders?

German Jewish WW1 veterans who proudly served the Kaiser were still exterminated along with their families.  The Trumpites who stormed the Capital were waiving the Stars n' Stripes, and they were the ones who politicized wearing masks and getting a vax.  Your fellow citizens will turn on you for even the seemingly most insignificant reason.

    When push comes to shove...

99% of motorcyclists do nothing to protect our rights and many, many do things to hurt our image (loud pipes, squid antics, etc).

I'm a realist.  I've been riding almost 50 years and long ago learned there is no motorcyclist brotherhood.  You'll just as likely or maybe more so to have a cager stop to see if you need help if you're broke down on the side of the road.

And your profanity and reaction reflects who you truly are, and your obvious lack of tolerance to those who differ from your views.  Which just reinforces what I'm saying...

All this because I wave at people. You’re a riot 🤣

I’ll still wave at you though, and even stop to help you plug your tire or remove the stick from your ass

    The naivety of youth...

First the Nazi's then the Trumpites proved to us that commonality does not breed friendship...

OK, too political, delete this if you must but I get tired of PCness

Today I learned that being friendly is the path to Nazism. WTF is wrong with you? Also, what did you have in common with Nazis? 😂

  5. I wave at squids, atgatt grandpas, Harleys, Spyders, mopeds, moto-cops; anybody not in a cage. If I ever see a Niken in the wild, I’ll wave to you too 😂

I don’t get the tribal thing. There’s enough of that in every other aspect of life. The point is we’re not in cages, that should make us friends 🙂

I’d be nervous about ordering the one from your upper photo too. As you noted the picture doesn’t match, and I know for a fact that Yamaha Roadstars use a different (simpler!) ECM connector.

the pins in the connector on the other hand, not sure if they would work.

glad you were able to clear code and ride with no light on!

what’s the connector supply place that’s always being linked up in various threads here? Maybe they have them?

I’ll check around today and see if I can find any more info about that connector.

I think CyclTerminal is the common place for Japanese bike connectors. Now I’m wondering if the Sumitomo connector (the correct one) uses JAE MX32A pins. Cycleterminal does list a Sumitomo Honda 33-pin connector that looks awfully similar to the Yamaha. And I can order the Sumitomo pins and crimp tool individually from there. Might give that a shot.

  7. Going to retire my Shoei Hornet X2 in September, after what will be 5 years and about 70k miles of awesomeness. Starting the agonizing debate over the new lid now.

I think I’ve narrowed it down to a Shoei RF-SR, HJC RPHA 70 ST, HJC F70, AGV K6, or Scorpion EXO R1 Air 😂

  8. I've learned through trial and error (ordering from Amazon), that despite the similar appearance, the pins are NOT Metri Pack. And if I'd done more googling, I probably could've skipped that step.

I have learned that they are likely JAE-MX23A pins, and I can get what looks like the whole 33-pin connector from various Asian countries. Domestically, I can get JAE-MX23A pins, or different even numbered connectors.

Ordering from Alibaba makes me nervous for my identity, but the crappy pictures on Cycle Terminal make me unsure of the product. Currently debating which route to risk...

  9. Decided to give the Pinlocks another try after thinking about this thread. I bought a set years ago, tried them for one ride, hated them, and put them in the box-o-junk. I couldn’t remember why I hated them though.

Well, after popping in the large set this morning for my 15 mile/15 minute commute, I had a raging headache when I got to the office. So maybe that’s why I hated them.

I’ll try the mediums on the way home. Maybe they’re perfect.

I think I have weird ear canals though; I have to insert them almost vertically to align them right. Which is why I have used the Macks silicone for a long time.

I cant used 'in-ear' plugs, foam or silicone for extended periods, they begin to ache after awhile.  I have used Mack's ear plugs for years, just roll them into a ball or press and hold it in your ear and they mold to fit in a few seconds.  If I ever run out while on a trip, they are available at any supermarket or pharmacy.

Amazon.com: Mack's Pillow Soft Silicone Earplugs - 6 Pair, Value Pack – The Original Moldable Silicone Putty Ear Plugs for Sleeping, Snoring, Swimming, Travel, Concerts and Studying: Health & Personal Care

Same thing for the same reason. Only thing that doesn’t drive me absolutely bonkers after a few hours.

  11. I have some old low profile camelbak I’ve used for multiday tours or just long hot days.

I made the mistake of just trying to carry the bladder in my back armor sleeve once. Killed my shoulders after a few hours.

In the actual pack though, it’s great. I just tuck the bite valve in my collar when I’m not using it, and it’s really easy to shove it into my helmet when I need it, even with a chin skirt. If you’ve got a particularly soft bite valve, lock it off though.

I don’t ever use ice. Not that it doesn’t sound good, but it’s a hassle, and in my experience, body heat and air temperature warm it up pretty quick. Even backcountry skiing with camelbaks only the water in the hose would get cold/freeze if you didn’t clear it. Body heat warms up the bladder quick.

its not that they don't offer it ,,it was more like sometimes we can't over ride it ,,that's why im curious if anyone with a newer model has had the same issue

That sounds crazy. I asked ahead of time for my 2016, and they confirmed they could do it, and it kicks on at 190F, I believe. Might be 195F.

Have you talked to Nels? He’s always personally responded to my emails at least; might be worth a shot.
