Hello, current FJR owner looking for something lighter now that I live near some of the best roads in the US. Joined so I could learn more about the Tracer to see if it is the right choice for me.

I was riding a ZRX1100 with a pipe so that lightened it a little. I figured it was around 540 - 550 lbs. This is a noticeable improvement from that at 462 lbs. Also had a ZX11 Ninja but that ole mans ninja was a pig at 620 lbs. with stock dual pipes. Really liking the FJ with a great power to weight ratio. Only thing I lack at this point is some I ride with are on ZX14s and 2nd Gen VMaxes. They come out of corners and romp on it for a few seconds and they are bopping along at 150-160 mph. I'm back there peddling as fast as I can...I got nothing. The FJ screams to 120-125 though! Which is as fast as this ole man NEEDS to be going, LOL!

If you don't need the tires just yet, Bridgestone usually has a Spring promotion with a $50-$60 rebate -per set.  I usually pick up a set of both S22 and T31 each year during their promotion.

So betoney, what do you find in your mileage difference, total miles, and feel or difference in sticky-ness of the 2 tires? Rockymountainatvmc.com has the 50 dollars rebate up again. There is only 6 dollars a set difference between the 2 tire sets. I have my Gen-Mar tire changer now and am ready to change tires after each meet that I ride back and forth to and riding at them. Usually put between 2,000 and 3,000 miles total per meet. Other guys in the group are stuck on Dunlop RoadSmart IIIs. I know texscottyd can speak to those. I think he ran a set to check them out. I have 4,025 on a front right now, RoadSmart II new style, hard as a rock, 😫, Will hopefully get a trailering to the hill country in April and ride 2 days, approx. 300 to 400 miles each day. 2,000 approx on the back and I'm sure it will be done then also. Betoney, trying to see if you are getting any big difference in miles between the 2. I know you get a lot more miles than I do out of a set. I usually get approx 3,000 to 3,500 miles out of a set. front still looks good but can't get a full 2 rears out of a front. I know it's my riding style that's hard on tires but hard at this point, 60's to teach an old dog new tricks.

Went to look at Dunlop RoadSmart IIs and all they have is a 110 X 80 X 19? None in our size. Has Dunlop discontinued that tire?

Sorry, that's RoadSmart IIIs. Don't see them in our size.

I used to trailer my bikes from Chicago to Estes Park, CO every summer for years, until I finally moved to Denver in '96.  World-class motorcycling out there, best 14 years of my life.

We have Friends that used to live in Bismarck, AR but have now retired to Placitas, NM. We are planning a trip this next summer to go there and ride the Rockies. Also want to get with Betoney to get trip routes out in the Pacific Northwest. They pix on his trips are wonderful. We are probably going to fly there and rent and ride.

If you are using the stock hand guards they are about one step above worthless for blocking wind.  They are too far away from your hands and oddly shaped, they allow a lot of air to hit your hands.  After buying the bike, the hand guards lasted about a week. 👎

I added weight with the side bags and rear bag and rack. Hand guards and passenger foot pegs came off to counter the added weight. IMG_8792.thumb.JPG.78b168cc1df75772b0acfa065d401101.JPG

In other words, the difference from one to the other is minimal.  Spending more money doesn't guarantee you'll get any more performance out of the more expensive battery than you'll get out of the far less expensive battery.

Yup, a plumber told me to buy the 6 year water heater. It has the same tank as the 12 year. It doesn't pay enough to have 2 different tanks. Batteries are pretty much lead plates and acid in a plastic container. Whatever battery you get it should be fine. I like others use a Battery Tender. The Jr model.

    Hey,

New in US, just bought 2015 FJ-09, battery seems to be almost dead. Not always start from first attempt, and sounds like it doesn't have enough power. Checked Amazon - many options in $30 price range, e.g. Amazon. In my home country it was much more expensive. Do you guys tried something like this one? Does it really work? Just one year would be enough, I don't expect 5 years longevity

This is what I run in my bikes, scooters, lawn equipment.

Find many great new & used options and get the best deals for...

I have used this company for years with good results. I also use a Battery Tender on all my equipment. Even my Tacoma truck. I have a company car so my truck gets cranked every 2 weekends and run for 12 minutes and then every 2 months I drive it the 48 miles around the lake to keep things moving that need to be moving. But both my bikes, my lawn tractor and my Tacoma have battery tenders on them. I change out my batteries every 4 years whether they need it or not.

The clutch in particular sounds like it has dreadful asthma when in neutral with the clutch lever out. It's almost embarrasing :)

I know what you mean Stew. I wish it had that Ducati Dry Clutch sound instead of a wounded animal sound, LOL! I got it with just over 3,000 miles and this motor has lots of sounds. Clutch works perfectly. Do want to do a slipper but for some reason 2020 has just been a really strange year. Always something coming up, central air went out, dog got health problems, over 2,000 bucks at this point on the dog and it might be 150.00 a month from now on to keep her alive. Her immune system is killing off her red blood cells. Steroids 2 times a day and another pill once a day. Plus a blood test to see if the steroids have kicked the immune system in the head. If the steriods stop it we will be back to normal but we haven't gotten there in 3 months. Just between the A/C and the dog I could have gotten a second killer bike......

can you imagine the sheer joy , the smell and the insane acceleration when you hit the power band!

Man I love me the smell of some Castor Bean Oil! I have a 2 stroke ZUMA 50 cc Yamaha scooter. Because you know.....scooters are like fat chicks. They are both fun to ride till your friends catch you on them, LOL!

Hmm... could be an option for me in 10 years when I'm 78.   Of course, it'll be electric, or who knows what, by then!

Electric = instant torque!!!!! Yes I love the sound of different motors tho in my middle age, 60's, I now keep my bikes with a stock exhaust. I wear ear plugs and am not into the noise. Just get it to where I get 400 to 500 miles on a charge and I'm there!I I'm an old VMax owner, had 3. I used to say when I got to old to hold it up I was going to trike it and put a blower on it. Yes they do make a blower kit with a 4 barrel carb sitting on top. That way it will still smoke the tires, LOL! Yeah I can't wait for electric to mature.

I don't recall having this issue on my previous bike (07' Suzuki Bandit 1250)

And your Zuke 1250 is at least 100 lbs heaver. I noticed it when I switched from my 2000 ZRX1100 which weighed in at about 550 to 565 lbs. I have taken off my hand guards too. I have nice Rev Tech H2O  gloves and heated grips. I never have been a fan of the look but I heard they could cause the high speed wobble. Thanks but no thanks.....I love my high speed sweepers. Now I didn't want to ride my ZX11 Ninja on windy days. It had a habit of getting blown around. And of course check the tightness or lack there of on your triple tree neck bearings. SKIP where are you with values, torque, etc?????

I have heard several people mention that the RS3 were harder to mount - due to the stiffer sidewall?  I have never tried either tire but what he said makes sense if the Michelin have a soft sidewall construction.  It will be really interesting to hear your finding by just swapping tires.

I know Clay a guy I chase when riding at meets, LOL! He said the RS2 rear was very stiff and he didn't have any problems mounting the RS3 rear. The fronts for both were OK also. He hasn't tried Michelin tires yet. He rides a 2005 VMax Gen1 with different rims so he runs radials now. I had a hard enough time keeping up with him when he was on bias ply tires. I can keep up now for 10 - 15 minutes but after that i back off. Focus, focus, focus and it fades quick when you push it that hard.
