Do I get another Tracer since its familiar? or do I get adventurous and look at something completely different?

The new Tracers are nice. I was torn when getting the Tracer about the Kawasaki 1000 Ninja. The new 1 is really nice. Also the is the "Touring" MT10. If you call a 100 mile between fill-ups a touring bike. I have a lot of friends with Gen1 and Gen2 VMaxes that tour on them, 100 miles at a time on gas. Lots of choices out there. Good luck with a choice if you need to make 1, LOL!

Ok, one last insider pro tip:  The cheat code for fun is MODE=A TCS=OFF

You can thank me later… 😀

Yes I've done that a time or 2. Chasing Clay, 1 of our best riders, I really have to watch the front wheel. It came up a bit on my ZRX1100 but this thing is wheelie prone to start off with. The GPS does help me to know which way the road goes over hills. That can make the hill tops much faster, and again, the front wheel is skyward, LOL!

  3. Yeah, living down south we have cold snaps during the winter. Once every 3 to 5 years we get snow or an ice storm usually in February. Hope the Desert west just has cold snaps also!

Just thought about it. It depends on your altitude. I rode to Santa Fe New Mexico in October of 83 for a Dead show on my 1976 CB750. Rode from Venice Beach Ca. Yeah I brought 1 pair of jeans and 1 flannel shirt. Thought it's October, it's the desert, it will be like Venice beach. Didn't figure in the altitude.

  4. Been nice here in NW Louisiana and East Texas. Did 358 miles yesterday and it didn't even seem like it. Went to a new eatery called Kitt's Cornbread Sandwich and Pie Bar. http://kittskornbread.com/   Had the cornbread Club w/broccoli salad and chips. I start to say to him, Love that set of triple digit curves...he stops me in mid sentence and says. Yeah we'll call that spirited riding, what do ya say. So yeah, we had a great day of spirited riding. Rode on Friday, Christmas eve and it looks like I'll ride again today since the wind is again kicking up so leaf raking is out of the question. Hope everyone had a great Christmas and got their bike everything it wanted, LOL!

Hi @jamespz03 - Those threaded inserts definitely do come out, and it will give you a lot more options for bar end weights.   The handlebar itself is also threaded, and it matches the threads on the Yamaha factory bar end weights from an FZ-9.   They're cheap, heavy, and work well.

I assume you're removing the hand guards completely, correct?   If you want to retain the factory hand guards, that insert will be required.  That said, I much prefer my FJ without the factory batwings...

I use the 2015 FZ09 bar ends myself. 15 bucks each as I remember.

  6. All I know about riding Florida is... I had a chance to buy a place from a friend who's aunt passed and the place was in coco beach just below Daytona. Went to check it out. Florida is the opposite of North Carolina's 11 miles and 318 curves. I have heard the Keys are a good time. March should be pretty good on temps and humidity. With flat straight roads you should be able to cover a good bit of ground everyday. I don't think there are any technical roads in Florida, women in bikinis, Check!!!!

Well, well... I think I experienced clutch slip today (🙏).

I think your bike is signaling you it's ready, wink, wink.

I have been eyeing this mod myself. Thinking maybe I wouldn't be sliding my rear tire into corners as much. Might get better life. This is the Bridgestone S22.

  8. I know. I had the chance to do heated on my Sargant Seat but didn't. I know they have the option and I do like my seat. Just not high enough on the list for the extra buckaroos. It would also be a buy it like that option to me. Not gonna take the seat apart then fit the heating element. Then reassemble the seat, to much sugar for a dime at this point. I wish you luck with finding the correct option for you. Oh yeah, Just remembered. I don't ride in temperatures lower than my age so the mid 60s on up and I'm riding. Colder than that, I'm working around the house waiting for a day later in the week to ride. I live down south. We park our bikes in August for maintenance. Oh, now I see your in NE PA, God love ya!!!!

And the Reax / Oxford rings look like and appear could dig into your hand like a  wood auger bit...  No?

The older SW Mototech system I have (with both they're Engage and City tank bags), which has recently been supplanted by a new system I'm not yet familiar with but the tank ring looks similar), I like because it just snaps in place to install and, as you know, just takes a tug on a lanyard to remove.  Their tank ring while black is still unobtrusive and won't stab or snag anything.   However they are very pricey!  But you usually get what you pay for...

The Givi tank bag mount system also uses a side lever mechanism like the Reax / Oxford system but their bags can just be snapped in place to install and the lever used only for removal.  I also like the Givi mount because it does not encroach on interior bag volume as the SW Mototech system DOES (contrary to what you stated), though consequently it sits higher and none of their bags I've seen conform tighly to the shape of the tank as the Engage, and to a lesser extent, the City bags do.  The Givi tank ring is also black (stamped metal like the Reax/ Oxford, unlike the glass fiber reinforced nylon SW Mototech rings) but projects up uniformly in its circumference unlike the Reax / Oxford rings.

    All food for thought.

BTW, I also have 2 magnet mount bags that very securely attach at least to my 15 FJ09s tank even with the SW Mototech ring in place but they are not quite as easy to use and can scratch paint. One is a mini 5 L Nelson Rigg and the other a 7.5 L off brand but also pretty decent quality (LMK if you want to know the brand).

    1st Engage bag

    2nd & 3rd City bag

Neither bag interferes at full lock with my slightly taller but more swept back Renthal 819 Street Naked Fatbars, which I shortened 1" overall in length, drilled & tapped for the OEM bar end inserts (with KTM Adventure hand guards), and packed full and solid with .177" diameter Daisy Copperhead BBs.

That's the tank bag I use. The Motech City Bag. Carries all your essentials...AND the kitchen sink, LOL!

I was looking at the Honda NC750X ,a nice bike ,but couldn't get over the fact it only put out 47 HP.

    MIKE

This was me also. A whopping 47 HP!!!!  That's the same with the 1100cc, we will see what the HP is. I'm sure that NC750X would last pretty much forever with the low HP output. It wouldn't stress anything on the bike. That 1100 would need at least 120 HP at the rear wheel to pull me in. If I do anything after the FJ-09 it would probably be the MT 10, who cares if ya only get 100 miles before reserve. I ride with VMaxes and some of them, Gen2s, are signaling the lead rider at 85-90 miles, GAS, GAS, GAS!!!! There has to "Sport" in Sport Touring.

Hi, just been cleaning my bike ,UK 2018 900 GT, it has done 13,000 miles, and have just found tiny little bits of rubber coming out of about 7 chain links, also found one O ring stuck in chain lube on the Swinging arm....... I only clean the chain with WD40, and use a Top Class chain lube. This is my 42nd bike and never seen this before. Has anyone else had this problem.

    Cheers Edgar Jessop.

I had links sticking at 12,000 miles. My sprockets were alright, just the chain was CHEAP! Got a new chain since the sprockets were ok. Up at 16,500 now and everything's ok. So look at your sprockets. With 13,000 they should be ok.

I haven't been on 16 in a while, but a lot of the roads I like to ride have been getting some attention this year. Too many of them have had chip seal added, which I'm not a fan of, but once it's bedded it seems to be okay.

Yes, with 16 you have 27, you have 7, you have 123. Dang, now yer getting me worked up!!!!!!  >:D
