What I did today was not on my FJ

Yes I've been wanting to get my VTR up and running

Almost ready do finally install LED driving lights to replace the old incandescent  So everything is now LED stem To Stern

I still have to clean up the spaghetti under the saddle and to that end I've ordered a FZ1 fuse block. I must have 9 or 10 additional electrical circuits running various things, so I want to simplify and compress things under the seat.

Still have a starting problem which may be a trick main starter relay

But at least I was able to get it running and run some gas through the carbs and it idled perfect

I may take it for a ride before the driving lights are installed as I still have to fabricate the mount adapter links.

A 90° big V twin is an aural delite when running and the fastest red VTR is a classic beauty.

Too bad I can't post a video clip so this still will have to do

I agree on the V-Twin sound being intoxicating. Especially an Italian one mates to an Akra pipe with the db killer removed {insert evil laughter}.

It’s too big a torque wrench for 12lb I use a 1/4” for anything under 20lb, 3/8” for anything over, and my 1/2” for anything over 50lb.

Right tool for every job. Not everyone has such range, but a 1/4” torque wrench is very useful for working on bikes as they use lots of small bolts on soft aluminium cases.

What would be a good, but not break-the-bank 1/4” torque wrench? I love my 3/8 Kobalt, but Lowes doesn’t have a 1/4”.

The post is difficult to read with the black background, imo. But imo that's a good looking bike, sounds well set up. Should sell quickly. I'd go that route vs trade-in. Good luck.

Thanks.  I think I'll just retype everything and see if editing it fixes that.

My puppy has squeaky toys that are more attention-grabbing than any OE horn I have ever come across, so today's farkle was the simple job of replacing it with a decent made-in-Italy Stebel Magnum horn - plug 'n' play of the easiest kind.   It makes a strident alto note that should penetrate nearby traffic without being obnoxiously loud.  $AUD28

Sounds like the Soundbomb Mini I bought for mine 3 years ago.  Plug-n-Play single horn.  No, it's not as loud as the dual unit that requires a relay and new wiring, but it a crapload louder than the OEM.  Mine was priced about the same if I remember correctly - about $30US.

The Wow / Ducshop and Mountain Motorsports Roswell are the only 2 I know of... I live on the southside so both are over an hour from me with no traffic.

They had a 2013 Pike's Peak Multistrada 1200 at the dealer with the Ohlins... I contemplated hard on that one, but it had a lot more miles and the 1260 engine has much longer service intervals.

I'm south too (Locust Grove).  From everything I've heard about MMS Roswell since getting the Monster, avoid them.  While I haven't been a WOW fan in the past, from what I've heard, all/most of Mark's crew from DucShop have migrated to WOW.  When it's time for service on my Monster.

I too chose the newer 1200 over the 1100 for the extended service intervals.

Well damn that sucks.  Sorry to hear.  It's been going around my work lately.  Luckily I've been able to thread the needle.

    >- I got the S model so it has the Skyhook active suspension. Feels fantastic. Smooth, >stable, easily adjustable.

    >- Quick shifter is fantastic.

I have a Monster 1200S and mine has the Ohlins front/rear.  Mega adjustable and positively sublime in the twisties.  Yeah, that QS is butter smooth on mine also.  When I get on the Tracer after riding the Monster I have to remind myself it's only upshifts (why Yamaha??)

    >- Closest Ducati service center is 1.5 hours away.

Where do you mean, the new WOW/Ducshop merger?

So, this picture is what I need some confirmation on about removing.

I’ve taken the hand guards off my 2019 GT and want to go with bar ends/ bar end mirrors. I just want to make sure the black piece that has a 14mm female hex is to be removed. I can’t see enough inside the grip end to make sure it is just in snug with Loctite.

{edit} bit the bullet and put the 14mm in it and broke it loose. Now I have bar end mirrors finally.

If you want to venture outside of Fallon, this is a full- day ride, but its PHENOMENAL!

Ebbetts Pass, Sonora Pass and Monitor Pass

And it follows along CA4 that I love.  In 2017, I was on a California ride and one day we were on 4 and stayed in Arnold at the Meadowmont Lodge.  Nothing fancy at all but everything you need and owners that did anything for you to make your stay pleasant.  Big plus is the Snowshoe Brewery literally across the street with a restaurant.  Sadly Ebetts Pass was closed so we didn't get to go much further up 4.

If that was your 1st oil change I would think you would have done it at 600 miles per the manual But regardless if it was the original filter, I think they put them on with a 6' breaker bar at the factory.  Everybody seems to have had issues removing the original filter...

Nowhere near my first change. I have over 20k on the clock but somehow the filter got super tight.

  10. After my 3000 mile trip a couple weeks ago (did 12 SE states on almost exclusively 2-lane backroads), I decided to change the oil and clean her up.  I've just completed the oil change.  Thank goodness for the fans I have in the garage to keep from absolutely sweating to death.

The oil filter did not want to come off.  The sized filter remover and even my nylon strap remover didn't budge it, so it was Channel Locks to the rescue!

The filter held on for dear life but eventually relented.

I had picked up a lot of Shell 4T oil for the Tracer and Ducati when Advance Auto put it on sell back in the winter, so I gave her the good stuff.

One thing to note is that I almost overfilled her.  Luckily I short fill my changes, start the bike, let it get to temp, and then turn it off and let it settle to check the level.  I noticed it was pretty damn close to the upper end of the sight glass.  I did some math (I was already barefooted, so that helped) and then looked at the bottle.  That's when I noticed the Shell bottles are in litres, not quarts!  I was still just under the 2.7L the service manual calls for.

Now it's time to pretend it's a Harley and clean it stem to stern.

    {I have no idea why it uploaded the first two pictures upside down and the third correctly}

Got the Bridgestones all mounted up. Front wasn't horrible, but the rear 180 tire was indeed a butt-pain, it was really uncooperative at first, even after baking in the sun a couple hours.  🙄  Finishing up the balancing, then back on the bike they go.

I've had both the current 22's and previous 21's.  They'll give you a better than you'd think life, at least they did with me.  I currently have a set on my 2018 Monster 1200 and once the PR5's are used up on the Tracer, I'll put another set of 22's on it.

And you're right about the effing sidewalls.  Think a 180 is bad?  The 190/55 on the Monster almost had me throwing tools.  I even had to break out some additional spoons to aid the No Mar.

Picked it up from the shop, now $650 poorer. We've got confirmation now though: at least for the 2019 Tracer 900GT, a fifteen tooth front sprocket for 15/45 gearing will break the factory cruise control.

Expensive and very stupid mistake, but in my defense... Who would think that would be a problem, at least without throwing a diagnostic code?  +/- a front sprocket tooth is hardly an unusual thing to do, and at 16/47 it worked just fine.

Well, time to put that nightmare behind me and just be happy I've got my baby back with CC again.

Been away for a while but just read this. Sorry you had to pay that bill to find out. I’d changed my sprocket to a 15T also back in the Fall and like you, my CC would just disengage seconds after activating it. I always suspected it might be the sprocket but would then say to myself that it couldn’t be simply because of that.
I ordered a new OEM sprocket and retaining nut months ago as a “just in case” and went about riding my new-to-me Monster 1200. Now that I have a set of PR5’s to put on before a weeklong trip at the end of the month, I’m definitely encouraged to put that new OEM sprocket on and get my CC back as well.

Sounds like a great bike and deal!

Not to tarnish the shine but didn't Ducati completely revamp the Monster in 20 making it lighter with and aluminum frame and a host of other major changes?  Though I do like the look of the "original" steel trellis frame configuration.

I believe (but could easily be wrong) that the 1200 is very similar from 2017 onward.  I know the engine, chassis, and electronics are the same with possibly minor tweaks.  The price difference doesn't begin to make it worth buying a new one for 18k.
