  1. Riding in France, keep your speed limits down if riding though towns and villages, if you have a sat nav with speed camera whereabouts it will only warn if cameras are within the area (keep your eyes peeled for either gantry or centre island standing about 4ft high) Gendarmerie usually give a wave so don't go mad or expect the big fine, instant cash or card payment on the spot.....good roads though and 2 finger salute to other bikers, friendly gesture leg out when a car gives way for you when over taking, always enjoy the food and beer. most locals are friendly especially if trying to make an effort speaking french..Enjoy the trip where ever you go

  2. The reason for asking about using different forks is recently I had a low speed crash into the back of a vehicle, a motorcycle technician couldn't believe how easily the stantions bent, he pointed out how thin the walls are on them. I compared them to a KTM 990 SMT which is a similar style bike which as WP forks and are more robust, I suppose it just comes down to how cheap the FJ09 build package is.

I'm 5"10 with 30" inseam and was very disappointed in the stock screen but found acceptable improvement with a $30 ebay wind deflector on top.

Installed a 22" clear Madstad screen on my 2017 FJ-09. The instructions suggested removing the outer layer of the hand guards so the screen wouldn't make contact with them at full lock. I added some spacers to move the screen out about a half an inch to solve that problem since I have some running light on my hand guards that I didn't want to remove. Instead of using the Madstad brace plate I reused my GPS holder plate and needed 4 longer bolts for the spacers. M6 X 35mm 1.0 pitch.

Amazing difference between the stock screen and the Madstad. I went for a test run and it was a joy to be in clean air without the bad noise from buffeting etc. Actually I was a couple of miles from home before I realized my visor was up, something I would have noticed immediately with the stock screen.

Are the screen mounts wrong ? shouldn't the adjusters be on the outside ?. I have a Palmer product screen and mount similar

For my 2015 MT09 Tracer, I found that stock rear shock (the recalled unit) is OK for my weight (110kg) regarding spring rate. It's the front that seems undersprung. Personally I have set rear preload at 6 and front at almost full and I got the sag I wanted,  in my opinion it's the hydralics that give a harsh and bumpy at times ride.

I ride solo and without  luggage.

I ditched the original fork oil for a good grade 10 to help stiffen the front end a bit

So one thing I haven't been clear on is the weight settings for the Ohlins shocks, are they for just the rider, or Rider+ Gear,  or Rider + Gear + Luggage?

I am looking at getting a YA535 but the spring rate has me concerned.

    Hi Clegg78

Once you have chosen the shock you require you will be asked what weight you are for the correct spring to be fitted, this is usually approx weight with all the bike gear you wear. Any questions just ask the supplier, they are pretty helpful in these matters
