Can anyone tell me which deflector they are using? Puig make s two versions - one with one hinge and another with two mounting points. I'm inclined to choose the one with two mounting points.

FYI I have the 25 inch Puig screen. Overall, not bad. I could use a little more deflection.

I'm using the Puig Clip-on "Deflector" (the small hinged one, as opposed to the larger Clip-on "Visor") on my GT.  But first, I installed a Yamaha Tour screen which raised the air blast up from my chest/shoulders, to my face-shield/helmet.  That increased noise to an unacceptable level.

Now, with the Tour screen raised fully up and the little Puig Deflector tilted fully forward, the noise and buffeting are dramatically reduced, but not entirely eliminated.  But the pocket is very good, even if I crouch down there is no improvement, so I know the system is working at its max capability.  At 6 ft, I'm still looking over the top of the whole array with everything in full up position.  The alloy hinge fixture is actually smaller than it seems in the website pics, I don't notice it at all while riding.

At 80+ mph everything seems solid with clean air.  Dirty air is a different story, as expected.  The shield flexes quite a bit at highway speeds in dirty air, and there is buffeting.  The OEM wind screen substructure sometimes makes me wonder if it's robust enough to withstand much more pressure, but so far so good.  Understandably, Yamaha supplies metal mounting screws with their Tour screen to replace the nylon ones that are on the stock screen. (gulp)

The Deflector seems nicely designed and built, attaches easily and securely, and isn't expensive.

  2. Finished installing a gel-foam insert in my GT seat today.  Sliced an half inch off the rear of the seat, while raising the front about the same.  Overall slope reduction...not sure but it should be noticeable.  Will test ride tomorrow.

Update;  Had time for a 2.5 hour ride today, no discomfort.  Before the foamectomy, I was uncomfortable after one hour and already heading for home.  So it was def worth the time spent on the insert (~3 hours total).  The real test will be a 4-8 hour ride.

Thanks @huck. I took your advice and after reading your post did a little bit of research but was soon after that sold. Bought it... The DHL shipping is super fast from those guys - to Canada in 4 days so US is probably even faster. Installation was a breeze and ultimately the bike runs much better. All the advertised aspects are checking out (I have the 2015 FJ09). The 3 power modes on the bike behave much better.

This ultimately is a game changer for how the bike runs and I can once again truly enjoy the bike. This makes especially a difference in places where ambient temperatures are high.

Great buy I think considering the improvements.

Also, I've read somewhere that this particular tuning aspect is not available via flashing (programming) of the ECU - but I was never able to confirm this.

    Cool beans.

So I gather that at this point you've completely ruled out any desire to have your ECU flashed?

I have flashed my bike as well, and it was a significant help, as everyone knows... But it did not fix the bad off idle lean fueling. a friend recommended the Booster Plug
    Go here:
    https://www.boosterplug.com/shop/frontpage.html

If you go to the site, there is a free 40 page book offered for free that explains everything you ever wanted to know, and more, about bike fuel injection, and how and why Fi bikes are delivered running very lean in aid of meeting certain standards. Because they are set so lean, and because bikes have relatively light weight fly wheels... The off idle and rapid shifting fueling is terrible. This is particularly bad on our FJ-09s. The Booster plug is a gadget that works along with the air intake sensor (Not effected by flashing) to correct the the fueling issue-all explained in the free book. And it is easy to instal. There pieces of body work, and one connector.
What I once thought of a a pretty good bike with crap off idle fueling, is now a very good bike with no... NONE, off idle stumble. It is like riding a carburetor bike. I can now ride calmly at walking speed without using the clutch, shifting in tight corners is smoothed out, and now, all three modes actually make sense.
The unit is unconditionally guaranteed so they do a refund if you are unsatisfied. I was skeptical of course, until I hooked it up and went riding... this is really a fantastic change for the better. In fact, I was very close to simply selling the bike and going to something else because of the frustrating low speed stumble and difficulty in riding slowly... But that is now simply gone. The bike runs better all around as fueling is now so smooth.
One thing... Because this unit effects the way the air temp sensor works, your dash meter thermometer will show 35 degreed F low. I simply bought a small stick on unit to take it's place.
I am not affiliated with this company, but the product is so good I wish I was!
Seriously, if the off idle stumble is as frustrating to you as it was to me, give this unit a try. It simply works as advertised.

Very interesting, thanks for posting this.  The off-idle stumble on my 2020 Tracer is my only niggle with the bike (well that, and the crap seat, which I'll remedy).  I wasn't sure what to do about it...check throttle body sync, get the ECU flashed, or just live with the inherent quirk.  I don't really wanna have a flash job done (wondering if ECU flash would affect my extended warranty, not to mention the hassle).  If the Booster Plug is a stand-alone solution without flashing, then $160 seems like a no brainer.   The easy-peasy install is the cherry on top.

Curious, any significant loss of fuel mileage?  (not that that's a deal breaker)  TIA

Both are great helmets, with the Shoei being slightly more "premium," with the price tag to match. I recently tried both models, as well as Arai, AGV, Scorpion, and Shoei's RF line. When I put the GT air 2 on, I knew immediately the fit was right. That and the Neotec 2 fit about the same, but I have no real interest/need for a modular. I walked in hoping the RF would fit me, since I've really become attached to the photochromic shield, but like I said, once the GT air went on, I was sold. The HJC did fit, as did the other Shoei's, but the GT hugged my noggin just right. I'm sure I'll be able to live with the flip down sun visor as opposed to the leave-it-alone-and-it's-always-perfect photochromic.

Point being, fit is going to be paramount, and features second.

Same here, but I went with the (discontinued) GT Air 1 instead of the Air 2, mostly because  D-rings are more comfy for me than buckle-style fasteners.  I tried on all the Shoei models at my local Cycle Gear store.  The GT Air's were the best fit for my head shape, so my choice narrowed down to either the Air 1 or the Air 2.

Cycle Gear had a couple Air 1's on close-out sale, but they only had a matte black in my size.  Black was out of the question for me.   Alternatively,  I found an metallic gray Air 1 online for $372 shipped.  The GT Air is my first lid with an internal sun visor.  I will never own another helmet without one.

Can't comment on other brands, Shoei has been my only jam since the 80's.  Always a high quality product from them.  Once again, with the GT Air,  Shoei earned my dollars.  Cheers.

The FJ-09 certainly has a few shortcomings. The engine is crazy good so to me it's worth making this bike a little more comfortable.
The stock windscreen is useless. For me it created a lot of mayhem. I tried one from Calsci. I think it was the medium. It was great. Not ready for that look though. If I'm going on a long trip I'll get one. I bought the Calsci TS. Looks and performs better than stock.
Installed OEM heated grips. First bike I've had with heated grips. Nice.
Installed KTM Handguards. They actually work compared to stock.
The seat. For me, it's rough after a couple of hours. Don't really like the look of aftermarket seats. Same as the screen. If I go on a long trip I'll probably spring for one. Calsci has a kit with memory foam that you install on your seat. Don't know about cutting a section out of my seat. Anybody do this? Thoughts?

Dunno if you're still considering modding your seat, but....I installed a memory foam/gel insert in my 2019 FJR seat.  Huge improvement.  Bought the pad from onlygel.com.  I chose the "Conformax" model, which is half gel/half memory foam.  Install took ~ 4 hours total, as I'd never done one before.  Not difficult, though.

My Tracer GT seat is maybe the least comfortable seat I've ever had.  It will be getting the same treatment soon, already have the Conformax pad here for it.   Along with installing the pad, I'm also going to try to slice away some of the seat's forward slope.  Will post results for anyone interested.  Cheers.

  7. Hello everyone,

Nice forum!  Been enjoying my 2020 Tracer GT here in NWA.  Traded in my '19 FJR ES for the more nimble GT.  Much better suited for the twisties around here.

Quite a few prior bikes since 1972, but this is my first triple....great fun.   Been gleaning some good intel from you folks, hope to be able to contribute.
