  1. Hey, have any of you noticed that your center stand doesn't hold your bike quite level? No, it's not my garage floor! My bike sits at about a 5 -10 degree lean, quite noticable, to the right. It's odd. I realize a slight welding difference would account for this, and to correct it would be a matter of adding or taking away materials, but there you go. Since my bike leans to the right I need to take that into account when checking my oil.
  2. I'm trying to find the connectors to avoid having to splice lines much. I wouldn't think the length mattered very much...
  3. Hey Wintersdark, I hear you and appreciate the experience being shared. I'm 6'2" and so am a bit on edge here. I really don't mind or even notice the leg and foot position, even though it seems a big problem for many. I just don't notice it. Very comfortable to me, but I'm fairly athletic still in my early 50's and all the joints are still pretty much like new. My arms are a bit more extended than I may prefer, and I'm leaning forward a bit, not neutral but like I said it is on the edge of Ok. By the way, I have good friends in Calgary and have spent a fair amount of time there and a whole lot of time backpacking through your gorgeous Canadian rockies for almost 30 years. Paradise to me. You are lucky. I did a road trip there and around on my Connie a few years ago. Great memories. Will do again on my Tracer!
  4. First impressions are that it is on the edge, but maybe fine. Give me a few thousand miles and I'll know.
  5. It's a simple procedure but some may have questions. If you ride with an airbag vest, like I do, then you need to install the tether on a structural element under the seat. On all my other bikes there was an obvious frame member or such that would allow the tether to be connected and then run up and forward and out for your to attach. In an accident it must be strong enough to not pull free in order to trigger your vest. On the 900 the only place I could find was to go under the fitting that the front of the rider seat slides into. It is possible to thread the strap behind it, and I had to use a bent coat hanger and tape the strap to it to do so. Worked fine, and it's all good now. I use a Helite vest, but there are others. Real life savers!
  6. Well if this isn't another example of the high value of a good forum to a new owner. I've had my bike for all of 24 hours and needed to find this thread. I bought the bike a bit away and rode about 65 miles home. Because I am the way I am, I went ahead and did a first oil change because the majority of those little shavings we all know about happen proportionally early, and well, I am the way I am. Anyway, I changed the oil and filled it half way between the two lines, which I've done on many other bikes. Close enough. It's pouring rain here in the PNW today, but I was dying to ride my new bike so I went out. I get about a mile from home and the damn oil light starts showing up. Oh Crap! Did my oil filter leak? Blow a gasket somewhere? I turn the bike around and start to nurse it home and am just about to turn it off when the light goes out. This all took about 20 seconds. Hmmm, I thought. If I can only get it home and out of this pouring rain, I can check it out. I get home, with no more light, and put the bike up on the center stand and get off all my gear. I anxiously go back and check the level and it is smack dab between low and full. No leaks, no oil, no sign of trouble. So I added oil until it is just filling the glass. Went back out and rode 20 miles and no oil light. Lesson learned here I guess. Not a problem with my bike and no damage done, just a finnicky oil light. Thank you all.
  7. I like the Statue of Liberty on the case for what she represents, and the story of France gifting it to us. We should indeed be welcoming to the tired, the poor and the forsaken. What is the texture of the case? Slick? Rough?
  8. Turns out mine are already in the stock position, furthest back, and I need my eyes and head examined😵
  9. Thanks, I was looking at them wrong. Now I have to figure out how to loosed those damn nuts under the triangle. I can reach them with long extensions but for some reason my 14mm sockets. both 6 sided and 12 sided, slip on the nuts instead of turning them. You can't approach them from straight ahead with a straight system because the forks clamps push you off center. I guess I would need one of those swivels that let's you change the angle of the input from the output!
  10. I'm sorry to say this thread has me turned around now. The first pictures by TexscottyD show the risers in one position that he says are not standard, or supposedly how they are supposed to be from the factory. That means that setting is further away from the rider. Ok, but then perolaforss posts the risers in the exact same position and says they are in the stock position? See my trouble? I've looked at them closely and mine are in the same position as both of those folks. The longer part of the rectangle is further from the rider. So which is it? I want the bars bit closer to me.

  12. Thanks a bunch. I know there are threads on this elsewhere but, HGP61, would you say the installation of the OEM grips get warm enough for you in Scotland? We live in similar climates on opposite sides of the world! Got to go there someday as my mother's family were Brumbelows, and claim some Scottish heritage.
  13. Hey All, Just brought home my Tracer 900 today and am delighted. Been looking at these closely since before they launched. Previous bikes include Versys 650, FJR, Connie and Aprilia Caponord 1200 Rally. Delighted to have this powerful, lightweight and easily maintained machine. Got what I think is an outstanding deal, as I was out the door for 10K, so bike was really down in the lower half of 9. About to launch into getting the side cases, and installing heated grips. I couldn't justify the added cost for the GT because I don't care about the TFT, though it is nice, and cruise control is pleasant but I honestly go long distances and find I use it less than 5% of the time. So I'll be out a grand and change to get the cases and grips, and still save a bundle for me. Just my call. Plus, I love the armor gray color! I'm a DIY guy, so will be relying on this forum for all sorts of stuff. I know my way around machines, and so may be able to help a person or two. For now, just hello, and can't wait to spend more time on the beautiful machine.
