  1. Saturday I got my MadStad windscreen after a short 2 week lead time, most pleased. Today I got my Sargent Seat after a day or 2 past one week, again most pleased. This is my 2nd MadStad ( 1st went on an F800GT bmw). The newest went on my 2020 Tracer 900GT. Easy install which I will try out if we 30 min without rain soon! The screen itself is wider than stock, and 2 " taller by order. The lower wings block what wind come up over the bars. Need to ride with it to experiment with the angle etc, but I have no doubt it will be a huge improvement.

The Sargent seat for the rider is wider and slightly more dished than the OEM. I had called about fitment to be sure I knew what I was getting. I was told it is not a low seat, fit standard height OEM Tracer 900GT. The seat looks great, the dish is slightly greater than the POS OEM, has a good seat feel to it on my arse, and looks good. BUT, the tabs on the Sargent do not match up with the stock tabs on the bike, specifically the brackets on the frame rail beside the seat locking section. There are plastic brackets with blocks on them stock on the bike, that work with the OEM seat pan. The Sargent seat has 2 claw like pieces that appear like they should fit over those blocks, as well as an alignment tab on the Left side, but they don't. Without doing anything to the new seat, I think I can make everything work together and the seats be secure to the bike without much tinkering. That's on tomorrows agenda. I have zero concern about the Sargent seat, there shouldn't be with the price, BUT everything ain't gonna be cheap and you do get what you pay for. Russel DayLong, Sargent gel pad seat skin, CBaily (no longer available, the best seat I ever parked my old fat arse on), were all great, and I expect the comfort of the Sargent to be equal.

More later. I ordered both of these item on-line from each Co. website. The wait time of other sources was way too iffy with my riding plans upcoming. Cheaper may have been possible but too uncertain for my liking. Not a rich guy at all but I also don't want to waste riding time if you get my drift. Ride Safely Brothers and Sisters!

Sorry but I must strongly disagree. I’ve owned 13 of them (2xVee, 5xWee, 5xWee2 and 1Wee3). Few with 50 000km on them when sold. Never single problem. “10x more problem treads”? V Strom is on the market since 2003 and FJ09 2015. How many sold? Look at the number of V Strom owners. Look on the size and activity of Stromtroopers comparing to FJ09/Tracer. I always had a confidence in V Strom. I can’t say the same about FJ09/Tracer. Mapping issues? Chain good for few thousands miles? Damaged oil pan? Damaged wheel adjustment plates?Tight valves at half of the mileage recommended by Yamaha…

I had an '04 dl650, and a '13 dl650 Adventure. Both were excellent bikes with zero problems. Rope both all over the place, lots of Rockies trips, plenty of power and comfort. I expect my Tracer to be similar, remains to be seen.

  3. IMO, you are better off with the larger one than you are the smaller one. If you have a big arse and the small one doesn't cover your seat area you will regret it. And make sure you don't over inflate the air hawk because you will squish around ant think it doesn't work. Try all inflation levels before you give up on it.

  4. All the pandemic crap shut down so many businesses that produce items such as bike parts the inventory both at dealers and other retailers. The supply chain is near empty. Look on-line at how many items are out of stock. Same goes for bike parts whether they are ordinary consumables or recall items. Ain't gonna change for quite some time as it's a world wide issue. We can grouse about it but the dealers can't do anything about it.

  5. The Tech who did my first service was the most senior of the 4 they have. I have talked to him a couple of times and he seems sharp and honest. It took 3+ hours and I have a copy of the checklist he went by, and I talked to him when done. So integrity of tech's at this point is not an issue for me, it's the lack of taking appointments and leave the bike until we can get to it crap. Seems to me they get so far behind because they don't schedule. Wonder if Yammy knows this is going on.

  6. I was upset when I called for my 600 mile service that they did not take appointments and that if I left the bike with them they might get to it within 4-7 days. Pissed me off, ridiculous under any circumstances. Told them I would not have bought the bike had I know that. They scheduled me in and got me in/out quickly but the cost was over $300. I talked to another dealer about the same distance from my home, he too doesn't take appointment but will schedule me on a Sat to get me in/out. Says he cant because of lack of techs. 1st service was important due to warranty I felt. I intend to do most of my own service work as I have on all my prior bikes, got all the tools and the skills to use them X shim valves (never bought the shim kit, but may). I feel the dealer I purchased from screwed me because I pitched a bitch.

I may do the same.  Even though I modded my stock seat as much as possible, it's still not quite right.  I have the tools and experience, and the price for the Seat Concepts kit is.....acceptable I guess.

However, I phoned Seat Concepts a few months ago with some Q's.  A gal there said they eliminate "most" of the forward pitch.  My takeaway was that there will still be some pitch after install.  Not sure if that'll work for me.  I'd actually prefer a slight back pitch, if anything.  There's also a decision to be made between the two foam densities offered, based on rider's weight.  I'm right on the cusp weight-wise, so prolly no Goldie Lox choice for me there.

    What to do?

If the pics I've seen of some of the Adcox seats are accurate, then I think he's onto something with that "bucket" design.  (but man....the wait time)

    The Comfort Quest continues.

Seat Concepts offers a gripper top that should minimize forward sliding I would think. And Adcox emailed me that he's booked through August so he isn't taking orders. FWIW.

  8. Memory foam is available through most craft stores (Joann Fabrics, Michaels, etc), contact cement is at WalMart for $8/can, small upholstery shops are all over the place near me, I use my electric knife to trim the foam as well as a long window scraper blade, pneumatic staple guns are inexpensive, and I heat the seat skin with an old electric heating pad. Mark the seat pan and the seat skin to give yourself alignment marks. The warm seat skin will stretch more easily and a hairdrier will help with stretching during reinstall.  Press and Seal helped hold the memory foam on to the seat pan foam after contact cement spray, left it on overnight with bungee net holding everything together for good adhesion.

It looks far more daunting than it is. Just go slow with trimming the new foam. Once you think you are close to final trim and ready to reinstall the seat skin, put the uncovered seat on the bike and sit on it to check comfort, fine tune trim before adding skin.

  9. Thats what I thought but I returned it and got the long. Its not perfect but helps lots. I got off the bike once in 5+ hrs, couldnt have done that without the pad. My arse was tired but thats from not riding much the past year. The seat is still hard, and why I will alter the memory foam.
