  1. Every bike is different to every person, and that is the dilemma.

Specially since all the 750's, 800's ( we never got the 700's here) and the post 01 800's had nearly the exact same geometry.

I had the 750's, both in VF and VFR's, 1000VF's and 800 VFR's, the 01 VFR was in my opinion the best I owned, but again, it is very personal, specially not knowing what was done to others people's bike. Just because something was done, it doesn't mean it was better.

I could throw that thing around with the latest and fastest on a tight twisting road and be there with the best of them.

When you become one with the bike it is worth a few extra ponies.

Not to brag, but notice the darkie. Two up at the Gap

Haa, I was always told I had a fat arse (VFR), it looks great to me.

You do know that yellow was a red want a be? :)

Back then my wife was great at just going with it, and I could nearly ride as fast with her on as not.

Needless to say that was long ago, hence why I don't even have pillion foot pegs on my bike now.

I've also ditched the stock suspension on the Tracer both ends, as well as the stock mapping.

I've also found that tyre choice makes a huge difference. More so than on previous bikes.

Funny you say about the rider triangle. I just couldn't gell with it.

As a meter of fact, I couldn't work out how to ride this thing.

One year and 10,000kms and it seemed to make no difference. you're not sitting in it, you have nothing to hold on to ( I don't have the tank to hold on to with my body) wind noise and buffeting is ridiculous, I nearly gave up on it.

Then I changed tyres from my comfort zone Rosso's III which I've had since they came out to Metzeler R01's.

Maybe I just snagged it as I finally gelled with the bike, but I don't think so, I've been riding long enough to know when something isn't quite right.

I'm back to my usual knowing what to expect from the bike, and being able to throw it where ever I want if you know what I mean.

As I hinted, it will never be a VFR, but not many bikes will.

There is something special about that bike. I'm sure that sprint is better in every measurable way but hearing that v4 sing though a good pipe just made it

Custom stainless 4 into 1 and a Staintune without baffles at 9000rpm, and then get the over run when you close the throttle coming into a corner, music mate, just music... A triple with a 120° crank could never get close.

My old Laverda RGS1000 triple with 180° crank got close, but no cigar.

I'll have to take a closer look at the at I've heard a lot of good things. Really regretting getting rid of my 5th gen vfr. I was surprisingly comfortable 2 up

I’m with you on that one.

Traded my 01 VFR with 146,000km on a 08 Sprint.

Regretted it the moment I left it. After so many modifications and kilometres, I was at one with that bike.

Surprisingly fast and capable even two up with loads of character, Something that the Sprint lacked. It was a great bike, just didn’t sing to me.

I no longer ride two up, hence the Tracer.

  5. Funny thing a bikes perception.
Never in a million years would a Tracer have crossed my mind, then I sat on one at a bike shop while I was buying some bits for my Sprint.
Couldn’t get over how light it was and how it carried its weight, so when I got home I researched it.
Went in with my eyes open knowing that for me suspension, lowering and flashing were all must do jobs.
I like it a lot now, it’s not perfect, but no bike is.

Tiny little bling update - found some faux carbon red trim to give the old girl a bit of a lift - now that she's feeling her age.

To top it off, removed the black OEM stickers above the silver 'TRACER' badge from the side plastics and replaced them with some more red decal stripes.  As @OZVFR once mentioned about his bike - "Just the right amount of red" and I agree.

  7. Firing intervals are 240, and that shouldn’t make any difference.
they all start very easily and idle smoothly hot or cold, at least mine does.
something else is going on if you’re still having problems.
Did it only start after your valve adjustment? If yes then it must have something to do with that

Any chance you got timing wrong, or adjusted incorrectly?

    How about clutch switch?

    ECU connector?

  8. Make sure you have a rattle gun for link nuts, on my bike they were impossible to undo without one.

Apart from that, not much to it. Do link, raise forks same amount on triple clamps.

Remove wheel to get more movement and space and use a jack to adjust height of swingarm.

I also had to undo rear brake reservoir and master to move it out of the way.

What did I do to my new-to-me 2019 Tracer 900 GT today?   I took it for its first outing since taking delivery almost exactly a month ago (on August 19th), thanks to a longer-than-usual bout of covid that floored me the day after the GT arrived, and then another longer spell of illness hot-on-its-heels that had kept me off both two and four wheels for some time.   But it was worth the wait, during which I finished all the farkling that I'd planned - rear luggage rack: new horn: front DRLs: rear flashing/pulsing brake light LEDs: mirror risers.   Since the immaculate GT already had some useful farkles on it, the package is now extremely complete.

The first outing was a brief one of only about 40km or so, mainly because the gear-change lever was still in its original awkward-to-use position as set by the previous owner, and I had overlooked adjusting it to my own foot position, but that's a two-minute job to be done asap.   Otherwise, the GT felt very comfortable and competent, also very familiar in most aspects as I'd had one before, and also was coming off an MT-09 SP, so much of it was 'old news'.  When the GT was delivered to me it was in sparkling better-than-new presentation (pix below), so I was hoping that its mechanical performance would match that excellent presentation, and so it was.   I'm happy!

    That looks bloody awesome.

Can you confirm for me that the belly pan doesn't sit lower than the exhaust, as I'm also looking at the same one for my bike. A 15 but sure it fits the same.

Aside from that, every once in a while I get a very noticeable KNOCK feeling in the foot pegs, typically the right peg. No idea what it is but it wouldn't surprise me if I'm kicking a rock or something up.

It could also be your centre stand bouncing on the spring over bumps and hitting the stop on the way back up which is on the right side.

On my Fastest Red 1 15 I installed 2014 R1 320 rotors (could have chose the red carriers but chickened out and got the black), and the 2014 R1 Brembo radial front master cylinder.  The R6 master was also an option, maybe a better one, I'm not sure.  I then sourced caliper spacers and longer bolts, a brake fluid reservoir, hose and hose clamps, a master cylinder bar clamp with integral mirror boss,  and fabricated a reservoir bracket that went under the mirror stem.

Plenty of options if you search old boy.

Check photos in my prior postings.  HH+ pads too taste as OEM are only GG.

Can you say 2 finger stoppies?

    Thanks mate.
EBC HH pads have been on every bike I’ve owned. Tried a few others when on special, but always come back as none have ever been as good.
