Do you really think the BB cover better than the ktm, which are bigger. I have the ktm and the BB plastics and the latter are smaller.  I just don't have the bb brackets. Yet.

I've just got the BB guards and brackets from Revzilla,  found them both in their ' openbox/ returns ' sales section , both at reduced cost ( I believe 40 % less )

As I remember it , they had 1 of each left for the FJ09

  2. Small local ride out to Middlegate station on highway 50 , quick drink and a Snickers then headed home.

Famous for being part of the old Pony Express route , now its a popular destination for local bikers and anyone headed to Sand mountain with their ADV's or 4 wheelers.

Thankfully they sell gas there as I completely mis judged how much fuel I had and I'm not sure I'd of made the 47 miles back to Fallon........😶

( what is the range on the last bar / flashing low fuel warning ? 🤔

42F and sunny, perfect for getting out for a New Years Day ride.  I was hoping to stop at a favorite burger place about an hour away but as I pulled into the parking lot I saw that they were closed for the holiday (I should have known), I still had a very nice morning ride.

Anyone else have a tradition of riding on New Years Day, rain or shine?

That truly is a good looking bike you have there mate.

I'd love to get another belly pan for my '15 like I had on my Tracer back home in England , but I have other things above it on the ' to do list '

With the 2024 models becoming available, Yamaha is 4 model years into their electronic suspension on the Tracer.

I am interested in real-world opinions on actual performance, especially from those who may have previously had a Tracer with upgraded standard (manual) suspension.  What are your thoughts, pro's or con's?  Do you regret it or is it an improvement?

As @Wintersdark has recently mentioned, the MT10SP has the electronic Ohlins suspension which is fully adjustable while the Tracer has 2 settings.  As someone who has always had custom suspension and the ability to adjust to my liking, would the Tracers 2 settings be a limitation or disappointment?  Has anyone had to change springs?

Any and all comments and discussions are welcome.

Sorry to hijack your post , but I'm very keen on upgrading the suspension on my 2015 FJ09 but I'm honestly struggling to find a specialist anywhere near me ( I'd love to find a ride in/ ride out suspension shop ) so I'm thinking I'm going to have to source the upgrades and then find a shop to fit them. Can I ask what upgrades you did on your '15 FJ09 ?

    Thanks in advance 👍

  6. Glorious weather today , so having fitted the new battery yesterday I finally got out for a couple of hours , just 80 miles locally. Saw this train in the distance as I left Silver Springs NV so chased it down and found the perfect pull in next to the tracks to grab this photo. Not bad considering i couldnt see the screen on the phone as i snapped away 😎

GREAT news, its good to hear that you are back up and running again.  I read a lot of different motorcycle forums and there have been MANY posts with the exact same scenario and resolution from fitting a fresh battery. 👍🏻

My buddy just recently got the exact same deal, $12k OTD on a brand new 2022 model.

I completely understand your mindset, I also own a 2015 model.  A brand new bike is sexy and exciting but when you step back and take a moment to think sensibly the current bike is (almost) perfectly fine, ESPECIALLY since its paid off.

If you have already budgeted some money toward a new bike then I agree with you, take that money and upgrade the suspension.  I have never regretted spending money on suspension, the improved comfort and handling still puts a smile on my face.

My problem here where I live is finding a street bike suspension specialist. I can undoubtedly source the parts from advice off posts in this great forum but id much rather deal with a expert who also does the work ( ideally ride in/ ride out in a day )

I'll do some homework , now that I've talked myself out of the new bike.

Around here they are pretty much giving them away, I think the best I saw was $10,500 with most around $11k-11.5k. Yamaha delivered them way too late and the GT+ is coming so they’re trying to clear them out.

Lots of bike for the money, good luck!!!

$12k total cost. Out the door . On the road.

    $12k for a brand new , zero mileage '22 Tracer 9 GT .

And yet , I've woken up today ready to keep my bike and just spend some money on the suspension.

    Bonkers !!

And yet , sensible as there's nothing wrong with my bike ( bar the rubbish handling....)

    Basically I hate debt.

And yet , I reallllllllly want the GT.......

    🤔

After the dead battery in Yosemite, did you replace it when you returned home or is this the same battery?  Even though the tender says the battery is "fine" there may be more to a 'good battery' than just reading 12.3v, it may be damaged internally causing the weird fault to appear on the screen.  A new battery should erase all doubt, hopefully its the fix to your issue.

The battery on my '15 FJ never failed me but its definitely getting up there in age, I travel to some remote locations and didn't want to press my luck so even though the bike was still starting and operating fine I replaced it earlier this year.

Yes , same battery as the one I had for my Yosemite debacle 😶

I'm off to Reno tomorrow to pick up a new battery , hopefully that's all it is.🤞

Of course , if I bought a new Tracer 900 GT while I'm there it would come with a new battery........

Sooooooo ready for a newer bike , I just don't want the debt that come with it.

Thanks for the advice Chaps 👍

Normally it would mean a high coolant temperature but that doesn't apply here it would seem?

Maybe you temp sensor has failed or it's a by-product of your flat battery?  I'm only speculating on that though.

    image.png.20dce60510811ae5f0110a605e6e94e6.png

So when the bike wouldn't start when I was parked up in Yosemite recently,  the ' Hi ' was flashing on the screen , so initialy I just assumed I'd got the bike too hot with all the stop / start photos I was taking , so I'd turned off the ignition to while the bike cooled down ( it wasn't exactly a boiling hot day , mid October up in the mountains ) but once I tried to restart it it was obviously a bad battery preventing me from moving on.

So I'm now thinking it might not be the battery as it shouldn't be stating the coolant is too hot as the bike didn't even start !! 🤔

  11. Nice day for a local bimble around the back roads here in Fallon NV so went to get the bike ready , she lives outside but under a good cover and is on a tender when parked up. Got that depressing ' buzzing ' sound as you try to fire her up .

The tender is saying the battery is good but I know  it's the original battery ( 2015 FJ09 ) so nearly 9 years old.

So it's off up to Reno tomorrow morning to get a new battery , thankfully its mild here till sunday so ill be able to get out for a few hours.

I had the battery tested recently after my breakdown in Yosemite park back in October and It was strong but it appears to be not so.

Quick question , this is the reading on the screen when I'm trying to start it , anyone know , what does the ' Hi ' mean ?

What drained the battery in the first place?

That , i have no answer for.

It had been very ' stop / start ' on the way to where I was , I'm a scenery junkie so was stopping a lot for photos.

I was charging my phone all the way in from the east gate ( just as well with all the calls I was making / receiving)

The temperature gauge on the dash was flashing ' Hi ' and no , it wasn't saying hello , when I attempted to start the bike again so I wondered initially if the bike had just got to hot , but I've never had that problem before ( it was only 86° F at that time of the day ) so decided that somehow I'd cooked the battery.

I've had the bike for 2 years , I've no idea how old the battery is , it stays outside my house under cover but permanently on a trickle charger. I got home about 1am,  parked up and didn't get back to the bike again till 5pm when it fired up straight away first time 🤔

It's a weird one.ill get the battery checked asap.

I've never tried this on my current bike and it may be a silly question/statement to the wider brain's trust but is there any reason that you can't push/bump start these 'modern' bikes like we used to be able to do in the 'olden' days?

I'm talking about a time when those bikes were simple with magnetos and carburetors and no ECUs etc.

i.e.  Ignition on, select 2nd or 3rd with clutch in and push your bike (downhill and with help preferably) until you reach a pace conducive to dropping the clutch as you dump your weight on the seat and pray that the bike fires up.

It sounds like your battery was not completely dead as you mentioned that the bike fired up again after getting fuel so I'm assuming (never good) that the battery had something left in its tank, when it let you down, to power the electronics so I'm thinking (also never good) that this push start method may have been worth trying?

    My logic may be off??

The biggest problem was the location I was stuck in.

It's a 2 lane , one way loop around El Capitan , and to push it down hill meant doing so into a blind bend which , if it didn't start , say it had been a more serious fault , I would of been stuck in the road , on a blind bend , with no where to then put the bike safely out of harms way. Plus the ' quality'  of the driving left much to be desired.

If I'd been with a buddy they could of held up the traffic , as I did on one occasion to help a very nervous tourist to reverse out of the layby ( mainly so he didn't swing into the bike )

Trust me , I considered it , but the lack of interest from everyone made me a bit hesitant in asking for that kind of help.

My wife said I was ' to English '  with my patience in waiting for AAA 😶
