Popular Post duckie
So, I did my second track day this year. Perfect day for it….perfect temp, perfect wind conditions unlike the first one this year. It is nice to meet and hang out with like minded people. There is as much fun in the pits as on the track. There was a rider that does super hooligan in MotoAmerica on a Harley across the way I chatted with throughout the day. Unfortunately, he ended up having a off road excursion, ending his day. Before he left for the day, he came over to tell me I was his hero…..because I was doing track days at my age….a mere 69. This actually meant alot to me cause I had been questioning my reasoning for doing track days at 69. Then, after my last sesision, a instructor stopped by for a chat, asking how I was doing and what I was working on. I went through my list of stuff amd I got some feedback on my riding. One thing I have been concerned about has been my riding and how well I fit on in being on the track. I got my answer……..just fine…..just need to keep doing what Ive been doing to shake off the rust……cause she said that was actually what it looked like I was doing. My confidence got a big boost from these two interactions. Really looking foreward to my next track day now. 8

lather
That's awesome! I have been yearning to get back on track. After about 50 track days over the last 25 years I quit when our local track shut down due to covid. At 66 and with lots of grey hair they used they use to call me Gandalf of the Track. Unfortunately our track has pretty much stopped doing track days for motorcycles because the higher paying car guys are taking all the days. Also at 70 now I definetely feel I have lost some mojo and not sure I belong on the track anyway. Congratulations to you!
duckie
I was concerned about the mojo factor also. Come to find out……its still there.
Kevin R
Sounds like fun. The key would be to gradually increase the pace (like you're doing) and not try anything nutty. As long as you're not getting in the way [i.e. safety factor] of others on track, I say more power to ya. It's always a better idea to push the pace in a closed environment - on a track instead of the street. Go get 'em, Duckie!
