Manual Fan Switch

If there's another thread here I can't find it. In fact, I have a hard time finding the black box on the black background to type in.
I read on another board that the ECU triggers the fan by sinking the fan relay coil to ground. In other words, there's a hot lead going to the relay coil, and the ground leg from that coil is switched. So, if this is true, it's suggested that all I have to do is run another leg from the ground side of the coil to a switch, then on to ground.
This supposedly doesn't mess up the ECU, and it's still fail-safe and should work on it's own if the manual switch isn't engaged. I'm guessing that the hot to the relay coil is also switched preventing the fan from being left on when the bike is off, or during starting.
Does anyone have any experience with this?
Can anyone point me to the fan relay?

You can change to a white background thru your profile, then go to settings tab and click on forum theme...default is white back ground and the cave of bear is the black back ground
