Fuel gauge issue on new 17 bike

Recommended Posts

Hello all, I'm not sure if this is a frequent issue
but my electronic fuel gauge seems to be
sticking. If I fill the bike before a long ride,
it seems to take forever for the gauge to move,
and when it finally does it drops like a rock. You
would look at your gauge one second, and it
reads full after 70 or so miles, then you look
again a few moments later and it's reading at a
1/2 tank or so. What gives? Is this a common
issue?

Motorcycle gas gauge do not go down nicely like a car does if thats what your thinking... my first bar drops at 100 miles... then at 170-180 miles the last few bars go poof and I hit reserve... bike holds just over 4.5gals... majority of us go by miles per tank rather than use the gas gauge... I believe the gauge  behaves like this do to the odd shape of motorcycle gas tanks rather than the nice linear shaped gas tanks found in automobiles...
