  1. Most motors nowadays are coming right from the factory with synthetic oil so change when you want to change, and semi synthetic is fine as well. I run full Shell “Ducati” synthetic in my Ducati, Maxima semi synthetic in my “older” bikes and put the Yamaha branded non-racing synthetic into the Tracer. All work great.
  2. Wow, almost exactly a year later, sorry to resurrect this!!! My '20 GT is just about where I want it but every time I go out to the garage the giant-ass turn incandescent signal lights just look out of place so I ordered some 12 O'Clock labs signals, flasher relay and signal mounts about an hour ago. Anything I need to know for install not in here? Everyone with them still happy? I planned on doing some OEM Yamaha ones but they have gone way up in price and you'd have $250 into them just for signals. Thought I'd go this route.
  3. Love the Aprilia V's and was lucky enough back in the day to take a few laps on Road America as well as around Road America roads on them back when they used to do demo rides at the AMA races. The one thing I could never get used to was the "pulsing" clutch, I seem to remember they used a weird vacuum assisted clutch that helped the pull and action but when you were pulled to a stop with the clutch pulled in, it was an odd sensation. If a "modern" V-Twin has an interest to you I would really suggest finding a Ducati dealer and taking a Supersport, especially the Ohlins equipped S model, for a spin. I rode the one I have to discount it as a possible bike back in late '18 when I was going to buy either an MV Agusta F3 800 or a new CBR1000RR as a new sporty bike and absolutely fell in love with it within the first 5 minutes. I have not been the biggest Ducati fan, especially with their questionable reliability through the years but this bike is a peach and worth the added costs. I've had it longer than any bike I have ever owned save my '90 VFR750F and have no plans on getting rid of it. It's a proper fun twin.
  4. Totally agree. I also owned a ‘98 Superhawk, bought brand new in 2000, and it was an incredible motorcycle with an amazing V-Twin sound to it (I also had the high mount Staintune pipes on mine) but my buddy’s ‘99 996 with the Termi race pipes, belt driven cams, dry clutch and Ducati panache just sounded different. I’d even argue the RC51 with the gear driven cams was a “better” sounding V than the VTR. doesn’t make it a bad bike by any means, I loved mine, and put something like 36,000 miles on it in 2 seasons (which is saying a lot since I lived in Wisconsin at the time) until I wanted something “harder edged” and better on fuel so I traded it in on an ‘01 CBR929RR. I do love the Italian V-Twin, well, L-Twin, I guess, and my ‘17 Supersport S is everything the VTR should have been. I’d upload a pic but I don’t have anything smaller than 1M so it won’t let me.
  5. Oy, that sucks!!!! Hope it’s something pretty simple. My wife and I take a 2 week trip to North Carolina every summer and bring along a bike on the Kendon trailer, been my Sprint in the past. Last summer I bought a brand new Jeep Wrangler as the tow vehicle and it puked out its coolant just outside of Knoxville on our way there. After a bunch of calls and begging we found a dealer to look at it right away, luckily was a known issue and easy to fix, so it was only a 4 hour blip in the entire trip. Could have been worse, and we ended up having a great trip regardless. Here’s hoping for a similar outcome; good luck to you!!!
  6. Damn, that sucks!!! Rack for the 900 GT was 4 bolts, and under 4 minutes total to do.
  7. Welcome!!! I think I’ve seen you on the 600RR forum. When I was riding the other morning I was thinking my Tracer 900 GT I recently bought would make a great commuter bike, good luck in your search!!
  8. That’s normal behavior of the fuel gauge. One of those “features” you have yo get used to!!!
  9. So I seem to have located everything and it’s on the way to me except the 50L top box pad. I’m going to do some more searching tomorrow but I’m getting there. Supposedly Yamaha will have some in 2-3 weeks; here’s hoping!!! I think next up is a front and rear fender extender, I don’t want to have as much crap as I normally get kicked up if I rain ride. Any suggestions?
  10. Thanks, both of you. I’ll follow up on the leads!!!
  11. Thanks!!! It’s eclectic but fun, and keeps me busy!!!
  12. Hey everyone, I know most of this info is probably in here, but I’m hoping I can get some “current” answers for my needs. I just bought a nice ‘20 Trader GT that I’m hoping to use as my new 2-up sport touring machine to replace my great ‘11 Triumph Sprint GT that’s getting a little warm and heavy to lug around. I just picked the bike up today and the dealer attempted to order my needs and we found out pretty much everything I want is on backorder with no expected ship date. Needs, and unfortunately these are needs if I’m going to be able keep this bike, are: - 50L top box, mounting rack and back pad - Comfort seat (I slide forward on the stock with it in the high position) First off, if anyone has these used and wants to sell, I’m all ears. Second, what are some good alternatives to the factory stuff? I looked at some SHAD and GIVI top boxes and mounts and they don’t look as integrated as the factory one and the backrest sits weird, almost straight vertical which my wife hates. Third, anyone have any insight into this stuff showing back up stock at Yamaha? Or has it been on backorder forever already? I’d like to get this stuff ASAP as the Minnesota riding season is short and I can’t sell the Sprint until the wife signs off on the Tracer. And she won’t sign off until we get the backrest taken care of. Thanks for any and all info!!!
  13. Hey everyone, new member here just introducing myself!!! Longtime rider, ridden pretty much everything, owned way too many bikes to list over the years and have finally decided it’s time to stop saying how perfect a bike the Tracer 900 GT would be and bought one. I picked up a “new” 2020 from a local dealer with 5500 miles on it in excellent shape. I quote new because it’s never been titled so it comes with a full 1 year manufactures warranty and was previously the photo shoot/press Tracer GT Yamaha kept in their fleet of bikes. The dealership’s owner was looking for a ‘22 Tracer for himself, Yamaha didn’t have one but their rep said they had this 2020 so he took it but once it was delivered to him they found him a ‘22 so he’s buying that one instead and sold me this one for a good price. It’s 100% stock, and I am looking at a few accessories for it, but I’ll ask in the GT forum. Anyway, current stable is the ‘20 Tracer, my ‘17 Ducati Supersport S, ‘11 Triumph Sprint GT (the Tracer will hopefully replace this one), ‘10 WR250R, ‘22 Honda Navi, ‘19 Honda Monkey and I’m working on an ‘88 FZR400 that I’ve been associated with since it was brand new. Thanks for having me!!!
