  1. I average around 20,000 Km,s per year over my Bikes all leisure . Here is Cert For Iron Butt Ride I did on my Niken
  2. Mine does the same raises idle speed by maybe 100rpm when you let clutch out dont think it would stop a stall if you let it ou all the way though
  3. $10,000 off new in New Zealand $14999NZD ( $10500USD ) https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/motorbikes/motorbikes/other/yamaha/listing/3286847685?bof=4YhRHRcx
  4. Hi Greg. How much better is view on Mirrors . I fitted Tracer mirrors and bought bracket to fit master cylinder for right side . Much better view but if I can get my hads out of mirror view may go for risers . I did the same on an ST1300 some years ago worked well
  5. I think it may have something to do with how vehicles are registered when new . i.e. a friend of mine bought an old stock ST1300 that was 4 or 5 years old when he registered it new ,in some countries I think it would have to registered as 4 years old even though never registered . It seems to be an anomaly in certain countries.
  6. 10th number of the VIN will tell you the year I think they only produced them in 2018 ( J on VIN ) or 2019 ( K on VIN )
  7. Hi I have recently replaced front tyres with Michelin Pilot Power 3,s Done about 1000kms so early days but used in both wet and dry conditions and very pleased. I got 11000kms from original tyre so be interesting to see how these go
  8. I had same issue after changing battery on my Niken same electronics I got a cheap reader off Ali Express worked perfectly and no trip to the dealer ( link below )
  9. Not as many as when riding my two wheeler . But here in NZ most Harley riders only wave to Harleys and even BMW riders seem to be a bit above a wave . Everyone has a double take look at the Niken but for me thats part of its magic
  10. I came off a Tracer to the Niken and find the Niken generally not bad on the suspension front . Rear a bit harsh but some have reported a change of tyres can help with that . I have a PR5 ready to go on the rear so be interesting to see how that changes things. I have a Nitron R1 shock that was on my tracer I am thinking of asking my local suspension man if it can be re-valved /sprung to fit the Niken. I find the front suspension superb in all conditions
  11. Had engine light come on after battery died and tried to start it with flat battery. Had is come on before with rear wheel spinning on centre stand and that needed trip back to dealer. Cheap scanner and lead from Ali Express delivered in a week does the job great Link for Adapter Lead https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001370337677.html... 12. A few pictures of my bracket just made it out of a spare piece of aluminum bar I had in shed. I had intended for to fit on inner edge of threaded holes in swing arm but fitted it on outside in the end because of profile on inner side of swingarm mad it not square. I would like to make a neater job but its been on for 6000 kms now and works ok . No problems with either stands on bike
  13. Managed to find a second hand Abba lift with spindle adapter kit locally . Made up a copy of the attachments for lifting front out of some box section that way destined for the scrap yard. Works ok, so clean up and a coat of red paint will look like the real thing Fitted my new Power 3 front tyres be interesting to see how they go ( 10,000kms from original fronts but well worn ! )
  14. I fitted a Puig Screen. Much better than stock small screen for me . Good protection in rain and turbulence forces water down off my helmet visor. I had a Puig screen on my Tracer before and that why I went with the same
  15. The Police had The Niken on trial here in New Zealand last year. They are currently using BMW,s and ST1300,s . They trialed FJR1300, Niken and Tracer . They have ordered tracers in the end
  16. There is a small group of riders in NZ who are quiet passionate about their long distance riding. A few local events TT2000 - TT2000 Long Distance Motorcycle Rally You're probably here because the sound of a long weekend's ride covering... The North Island 1,600 - New Zealand Distance Riders Update: 31st August 2020: Entries are now closed, thank you. I started doing rides that I was comfortable with and slowly build up . I have a camelback for water and snacks / nuts etc in my tank bag for during long stretches. Planning is a big part and fuel range on Niken not greatest. The bigest mistake anyone can do is push beyond your personal limits there is no shame is stopping if you are too tired lots of good info on IBA website Preparing for distance rides - New Zealand Distance Riders Good distance riders are those who can pace themselves and make a...
  17. Hi. Didnt have much time for photos on that ride just fuel stops for the verification process. I have done 6-7 of these 1000mile rides and they are quiet challenging in NZ . The maximum speed limit is 100 kmh ( 62 mph ) and we hardy have any motorways most roads are very twisty and you have to ride hard to keep a reasonable moving average
  18. The Niken engine has a heavier crank and different fueling . The differences I feel are its far more tractable at low speeds not quiet as frantic as the motor in my tracer. The Niken is also slightly lower geared to compensate for the extra weight. The CP3 motor is a peach in both bikes just some different characteristics. The Niken is also 3 years newer so likely refined from the earlier CP3
  19. Took my tracer for a nice 1600km ride in 24hrs a few weeks ago. Got my certificate to prove it now Trip: Niken SS1600 Niken SS1600
  20. Hi Rex Neighbour from NZ here . I had a 2016 Tracer 900 for 4 years and did 50,000 wonderful KM,s on it. I too was inquiring about the new Tracer 9 and noticed the Niken in the shop I had test ridden 2 years previous. Long story short I was offered a great trade in deal basically $2500 NZD and my Tracer for a 2018 Niken with 5000kms on the clock. I have been told their are only 14 registered in NZ so I am part of a unique club. For my sort of riding the Niken motor is far superior to the tracer and I love the quickshifter and cruise control. I have had some negative feedback always from people who haven't ridden one . Generally it creates a lot of interest fuel stops take longer I call it the NDF ( Niken Delay Factor ). Have a ride of one I am sure you will like it Cheers Phil
  21. I had a quick look for the wires on my Niken could not find it but will re visit in the future. I think the l/h switches connect at the left hand junction box . I had a Yamaha Tracer before this which is very similar in many ways the connection I made on that was under the left hand panel. From memory the high beam switching wire was yellow/ black and it was also negatively switched meaning you cant get a power trigger from it you need to run it through a relay. Once I worked it out it worked great I know the Niken is differant but I will try and find thread discussing it on tracer forum ,may be of some use.
  22. I do get asked all sorts at the gas station with my Niken . NDF ( Niken Delay Factor ) Always good to talk bike though
  23. Thank you sir. Very helpful to see how you routed the Pro-Oiler. A few questions: Answers in RED I've got concerns that I may not be able to mount as much of the Pro Oiler hardware under my seat because I've got an Arboreal systems electronic switching controller under there and it takes up a good amount of space. So my first few questions are regarding hardware placement: Why did you mount the adjustment controller under the seat? I would have thought you would want to mount it somewhere if you get caught in the rain that you would adjust the flow higher? Or is it a case of set it and forget it because your bike doesn't see rain that often? I had it on the fairing for my FJ1200 but found that I only adjusted it once or twice and I found when you find the sweet spot it pretty much set and forget . I do ride in all weathers but chain always still protected even after very heavy rain. Is the controller flat enough that it doesn't rub against the bottom of the seat? I tried to install an Arboreal systems electronic switch controller in that same area but it was so tall that it caused the seat not to lock into place. Controller is about 10mm thick it is sitting on the GPS aerial that is about 15mm thick plenty of room under seat . You could fot pump controller etc. at the front of the bike where the fuse box is . You may need a longer feed pipe but Im sure they would send you an extra length if you ordered. You could then mount controller on dash easily I saw that you managed to mount the oil reservoir under the seat as well - similar question here, I would have thought you would want to mount this somewhere more externally facing for ease of fill? Or is it a case of you don't have to fill it that often so under the seat is ok? I fill it up when I service it every 5000kms its never lower than half full at that point would probably go 10000 kms on a fill up. Is the Pro Oiler hard to refill (i.e. Intake nozzle looks big enough to pour oil direct from the container into it without having to resort to a funnel of some kind)? And is this why you mounted it under your seat so that you don't have to get a special angle funnel to fill it if it were mounted vertically elsewhere on the bike? Easy to pour from a 1lt oil can . On the tracer it was mounted on its side so had to stand it up to fill. How long did the install and nozzle adjustments take? I took 2-3 hours making the mount for the Niken but still not happy with it so likely to modify again . Both the FJ and the Tracer had some bolts holding components that I could use the Only things I could find on the Niken were the Bobbin holds . What oil setting did you ultimate decide upon for regular flow and why? The GPS works out distance and speed and does those adjustments for you You experiment nd how much oil you want on your chain What kind of oil do you end up using? I'm debating between 10W30 synthetic vs. gear oil... I just use cheap engine oil . Reasons are that you will get oil fling with any chain oiler but engine oil wipes off with some WD40 on a rag On an unrelated note- what is that Warrant of Fitness under the seat? Is that an inspection sticker of some kind? The U.S. use to have inspection decals that you had to display on the suspension forks of your bike - but now it's all tied electronically to owner registration documents, and you cannot re-register annually unless you can evidence passing vehicle inspection documentation. Warrant of Fitness is a vehicle safety inspection that is mandatory here in New Zealand . First one when vehicle is 3 years old then annually thereafter. Warrant of fitness | Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency A warrant of fitness (WoF) is a regular check to ensure that your vehicle... I have attached some pics of fitment of Pro-oiler on FJ1200 to see different application
