  1. I helped Deadstiff reduce the preload on the throttle return spring. I drilled 3 holes for a 4-40 allenhead with 2 nylocks. The purpose of the 3 holes was adjustable preload via trial and error. Basically try the lowest preload, assemble the throttle body and see if the throttle would snap shut. If not, try the next hole. When you find what you like put everything back together. Deadstiff was installing new cables, so it was the perfect time to mess with the return spring. It's going to take you a couple of hours to do this. I've done this on my XR600 desert and it worked great. So far Deadstiff has had luck with this. john

Thats good advice, thanks for sharing
  2. I designed, made, and installed mirror extenders and a bolt on larger side stand foot.
The mirror extenders suprised me a little.  I started at 1.25" and wound up at 2" before I got to a good length.

I will be listing them in supporting vendor section soon.

Looking forward to you coming on board. LEt me know when you are ready! You could always take preorders!

  3. FZ-09, but today I rode with a very fast group on a Mountain route called the "Lowman Loop" at just insane speeds and got 37 MPG over 140 miles. These guys are faster than I normally ride, track riders all of em and I worked my suspension and tires pretty hard keeping up with them. No chicken strips at all left on my Pilot Power 4's. We got stuck behind a large group of harleys for a long stretch and they were doing 40 MPH where we usually are doing 90 mph or even more. No room to pass until we hit the passing lane and then wham!

The FZ is great right up till around 110 and then the higher revving bikes leave me behind. I wish that we had a track here in Boise..
  4. Oil type is far less important than people think it is. I actually believe (personal opinion only) that factories put oil recommendations up in order to sell more or their own oil and also to have an extra way to reject warranty claims. Again. just personal opinion.

Engines are all different, but all Four strokes have pistons and Valves and gears. they aren't all that different and people like me have been using Rotella for years and years. threads on the subject on bike forums all over the internet.

Again, back in the day we didn't have motorcycle oil. What did we do? we ran 30 SAE car oil in our bikes. I had bikes go over 100,000 miles and engines had worse tolernces back then and break in was even more important back then but somehow we got mega miles out of our bikes using car oil.

In fact, Motorcycle oil didn;t really get all that important until internet message boards stated getting popular back in the 90's.

Think about that for a second....

I'm a forum owner with a conscience and feel compelled to inform everyone that frequency of oil and filter change and checking valve clearances and changing air filters correctly have far more to do with preventing excessive engine wear than type of oil.

If you really want the best oil against cylinder scarring, then a good ester based oil is proven to be very good. And very expensive. But don't be surprised if the guy running Rotella oil get just as many miles out of his bike as the guy spending twice as much on his oil.

  5. Bought stuff on Ebay from an outfit called NativeViking; Givi Top Box and rack, as well as a Bagster tank cover and bag. I think the prices were reasonable if not cheap, but the service and delivery time was excellent. They have Bagster tank covers in stock and delivered in two days. Most other dealers have it made on order and delivery takes ten days. The Givi kit also arrived in two days.

So, do you have a link to their product page on ebay?
  6. Last year I had a Motoport UltraII Kevlar 3/4 length jacket made for me. It flows alot of air and offers great protection in my opinion. I've had a few other mesh jackets over the years but they always felt a little flimsy. the Motoport/Cycleport stuff feels bullet proof. I'm hoping to order some Kevlar pants later this year.

Got any pics? I'll add a link to Motoport for you https://www.motoport.com/
  7. Getting up in the upper 90's and maybe even in to the 100's this week here so thought it would be a good time to start a Hot weather gear thread.

If ya post your gear, pleas eshare at least a pic or link to the product. If not, I'll go thru and add links for ya so others can shop too.

  8. I would be careful about wearing boots that are not designed for motorcycle use. They will not be CE rated so the level of protection is unknown. For me, the two most important factors in selecting riding boots are 1) protection and 2) all day riding comfort including wet conditions. You only need protection if you crash. I don't ride in non CE rated boots. Period.

    +1

As owner of this forum, I sometimes feel a responsibility to the safety of the people who read this forum. I have come up on riders who crash with regular boots or even worse, tennis shoes and man, it wasn't pretty for either.

Gear is like Insurance. It's expensive if done correctly. We hope that we never need it, but sure as heck don't wanna be flying thru the air and spending that split second wishing that we had gotten better gear.

I spend alot on gear. But, you can buy great gear used pretty cheap and often in great condition. Helmets should be bought new. Heck, if I even so much as drop a helmet on the concrete, I toss it and replace it. That may sound crazy to some, but read the crash rating guides and they paint a pretty clear picture.

I have a pair of Sidi Vertabre Race Carbon boots in size 11 that are in great shape and I would sell em cheap, if anyone needs.

You can go on many site's classifieds section and buy used gear cheap.
  9. Shoei GT-aire. It may not be snell becuase of the jet fighter pilot half visor, but its really nice being able to switch between the 2 visors as the sun comes up or goes down without pulling over to take off sunglasses or the like. I tired carrying around different tinted visors for my old helmet, and that was just a PITA.

That s what I like about the Bell Transitions shield. It just automatically changes degree of tint. Goes from clear to dark tint really fast and I can't imagine riding without it. I had heard that Shoie is coming out with their own photochramtic shield and I really recommend checking it out.
  10. I got a Bell RS1 Helmet last summer and really like it. When you look at the UK SHARP testing, all the Bell helmets rank very high across the board.

Very comfortable and the internal lining is so smooth and comfy. I don't miss my Shoie 1200 at all. In fact, the RS1 got a higher crash test rating from Sharp than the 1200 did.

I also got the Transitions shield, which automatically changes tint according to how bright the UV is. Works like the Transitions glasses. Let me tell you, when you get used to the transitions auto shield, to hell with everything else.

Five Stars Cruizin rating on helmet and shield!

  11. Man, I just got these Sidi Canyon Goretex Boots

And man, they are the best boots I have ever owned. Great for ADV and sporttouring, but unlike most riding boots, you can actually walk around in these and be comfortable. Pretty trick ratcheting strap to get em fit perfectly.
And, they are extremely waterproof. I wore em in a downpour the other day and rode 130 miles and my feet were the only dry thing on me.

Sizing I am a size 10 1/2 and the 11's fit me perfect.

    Five Stars Cruizin rating

  12. help me out here. is the stock screen really that bad?

    Depends on who you ask.

Some people are surprised to be hit with wind when riding a motorcycle.

Some people get a motorcycle to feel the wind.

Some even remove the the screen on their bike.

Buying and riding bikes was so much easier before the days of internet forums cause we didn't know what was wrong with our bikes, we just rode the piss outta them. GuOyWyY.gif
