  1. Did they mount cleanly with no cable or reservoir issues? Do I interpret correctly from the instructions that on the fj09 you don't use the kit's bar end weight? Any other thoughts? It is a configuration I am seriously considering. txs
  2. I am considering putting aftermarket handguards on my fj09 this winter for better rain/cold protection. Seems like the KTM adventure ones are popular. Also I see the Barkbuster storm. Anyone compared these? Also I want to try to include some sort of bar weights to reduce vibration. Looks like Barkbuster has an external weight that fits some of their mounts. The ktm handguards run around 75 and the BB are like 200 with the external weight. I have never added hand guards to a bike before so I am totally unfamiliar with the issues. txs for any advice, Bill,
  3. My early 2016 squeals loudly for the first 10 minutes and then is quieter (although still kind of rattly). It did not do that new and the demo bike did not do that. Deal says thats the way it is. Says it takes an act of god for Yamaha to pay for replacing a cct and they have only done it one one fz-09. Even with ear plugs it kind of bothers me.
  4. zachd, are these footpegs holding up well?I bought some of those but haven't installed them yet. I noticed it raises the bottom of the boot a bit, Any issues with shifting like boots not fitting under shifter was well? How about cornering clearance (I know the feeler is shorter).
  5. In terms of replacing, I'd probably get rid of the old rt if I buy a new rt, but other than that I most likely would just add bikes to the garage. The rc390 just has too much forward lean sports bike style for my old body and bad wrist. I do like the thought of something really small to throw around for fun. Actually I will probably buy an electric some time in the next year or two for fun but I live pretty rural and most of my rides are at least 150 miles. So the range is the problem. The fj-09 is a fun bike but I don't enjoy the suspension on anything but smooth roads and not sure if I want to chase suspension upgrads or not. I do love the relative light weight and the motor for the easy acceleration at any speeds. Brakes are only okay. My thinking with the street triple rx (or maybe the 2017 str rs) would be to get that performance out of the box in a lightweight playbike. Aggressive cornering is what I bike for. I endure straight roads to get to the next corner..... I do ride what I have and rode around 14k miles in the last 6 months for example on my bikes. So not simply lusting after new bikes, although lust I do. I'm sideline right now with a broken ankle, but probably should as next step upgrade the fj suspension a bit and see where that gets me. The choices are bewiildering though and I am one of those few that would prefer to buy a good adjustable suspension out of the box. I wish yamaha had offered a high end suspension and braking option but that is not their goal with the fj. The motor in the 09's is such a hoot to ride, and that will continue to sell bikes for them.
  6. Actually I am considering adding a 2016 street triple r(x) to my garage just as a playbike. Haven't ridden one but have read most everything written about them. What I am looking for is something lighter, better brakes and better handling than the fj-09 in addition to my fj. Would keep the fj as it has the bags, some wind protection, more power etc. Will always yet have a bigger bike yet for longer rides (currently I have an older rt. Other bikes that interest me is the s1000xr (would have one if they were not so buzzy), a new r1200rt if they ever get less ugly again, an africa twin. And triumph is rumored to have a 800 cc street triple in the works that might come in 5 flavors (including semi faired).
  7. I have bought a few new boots lately including the canyons. They fit fine with the shifter on my fj-09 but don't really work with my r11rt. I mostly wear some daytona gtx boots on that bike.
  8. I've been making it too hard. Have been pushing the center up from behind which allows the whole thing to come out easily. I didn't realize that all I had to do was push the center in and the whole thing also came out. Thanks for straightening me out!
  9. The others were easy as I could reach behind and push.
  10. Any tips on how to push out the center (white) pop rivet in dash cover?
  11. Couple days ago installed OEM heated grips and OEM side bags. Today I installed the evo tech radiator guard to go along with my fenda extenda.
  12. It goes on the outside of the flange next to the grip. Maybe you need to loosen up the cable slack? Mine has play inward and outward about 1/16 of an inch. Thanks. Turns out my probem was the lower throttle cable had a kind and was not staying on the nylon "wheel" so was getting pinched. I think I have it ok now. Scratched my head how to best route the wires to stay out of the way of the forks but I think I figured it out eventually.
  13. Stupid question: I am in the process of installing my OEM heated grips. The first post pics makes it look like the black plastic washer that goes between the throttle grip flange and the inner stuff goes on the outside of the housing. When I do that the throttle seems to bind. It works better with the washer inside the housing. What's the correct placement of the black flat washer (large) that is to the left of the throttle grip flange? Thanks.
  14. Do you still feel you get more vibration through the heated grips? Does anyone else notice this?
  15. How is your gps mounted exactly? What is that clamped to the center of the handlebars? txs Bill
