  1. Let's see: Carry the one, and... a hair under 71 mph average. Would you care to elaborate?
  2. I noticed the exact same thing... With the chassis pitch under control, the brakes are actually pretty good.
  3. So what's the verdict? The Ohlins & fork work on my FJ totally transformed the way it handled... anxious to hear your opinion.
  4. I did the same thing this weekend, and was amused to confirm the same results over the course of 100 miles or so. I ran it up to somewhere near 110, and it actually felt more stable than it does with the stock screen. It's amazing that Yamaha managed to engineer a windscreen that consistently performs worse than nothing at all.
  5. How embarrassing... at a hair over 7,000 miles in about 18 months, I haven't even hit the 'You must be this tall to ride the attraction' hurdle. I'm working on it most weekends, 200 miles at a time.
  6. I went exploring, got lost on a gravel road my GPS knew nothing about, and found this cool old wooden bridge over an irrigation canal... fun day.
  7. That's nicely done. I assume this is your plug for a Battery Tender? I have mine wired to plug in under the rear seat section, but really like the way you've approached this.
  8. I figure it's right around $300 all in, based on some quick online shopping research. http://www.yamahapartshouse.com/oemparts/a/yam/5626462987a86602c84a316a/flasher-light Front signals around $50 each Rear signals around $75 each Two pairs of connectors at $15 total Flasher relay is about $20 That's about $285, plus shipping and/or taxes. Not a cheap upgrade, but it looks great and I think I'm going to do it.
  9. Oh, I really like that... I've been following discussions on this for awhile, but think now it's time to actually do it. Did you cut the connectors off the stock signals, or wire them in some other way?
  10. @aeg - That's from the EatSleepRIDE smartphone app, which I run on my iPhone 6. I'm fairly certain they have an Android version as well. For a free app, I really like the route tracing and detailed data capture. The only caveat is that for the lean angle readings to be accurate, you need to have the phone solidly mounted to the bike, with the top edge of the phone parallel to the ground. I use a RokForm mount square between the handlebar risers, and it works great. -Scott
  11. Today, I treated the FJ like a full-on super-sport bike, and it never even flinched. 49 degrees of lean angle at 70 mph... is that all you've got? I love this bike more and more every time I ride it...
  12. My 2015 FJ had those long peg feelers when I bought it new, but I removed them within a couple of weeks. My assumption is that Yamaha wants to make sure that the folding footpegs touch ground as a warning long before any other hard parts make contact with the pavement. I managed to drag those extended feelers on both sides fairly easily, but after removing them would only occasionally drag the center stand on the right. I touched something down lightly on the left once or twice, but never figured out what it was. Regardless, I don't really see where they serve a real purpose, as they aren't heavy enough to add any appreciable vibration damping.
  13. Added a few more EvoTech bits... frame sliders & swingarm spools today. I installed their radiator guard yesterday, and am impressed with the overall quality of their accessories for the FJ.
  14. @joeszup - We are on a similar path... I got 4,800 miles out of the stock 222s, and swapped to the PR4s along with shock and fork upgrades. https://fj-09.org/thread/4873/biscuits-side-ohlins Since I did all of it at one time, I can't really comment on the PR4s with the stock suspension. But I can say that with the combined suspension and tire upgrades, it's a transformed motorcycle. Enjoy the new shoes! -Scott
  15. @joeszup - I have the PR4s on my FJ, and really like the way they work on this bike. If this is your first set of replacement tires for the OEM 222s, I think you'll be pleased with the upgrade.
  16. Installed the EvoTech radiator guard... it's a very nice piece, and a good deal at less than $90. https://www.motostarz.com/filter-by-bike/yamaha/fj-09-mt-09-tracer/evotech-performance-aluminium-radiator-guard-for-2015-yamaha-fj09-mt09-tracer.html
  17. I giggle like a child every time I ride this thing, so the playground seemed like an appropriate backdrop...
  18. @gst95dsm - That EvoTech radiator guard looks like a really nice piece. I just ordered one from Motostarz, who has them on sale now for $87.37 USD... seems like a good deal if anyone else is in the market. https://www.motostarz.com/filter-by-bike/yamaha/fj-09-mt-09-tracer/evotech-performance-aluminium-radiator-guard-for-2015-yamaha-fj09-mt09-tracer.html I really dig the Adventure Sport look you've come up with. Nice work!
  19. Me too! @eeetea - It would be very interesting to see what the actual dealer setup responsibilities are, versus what comes already assembled from Japan. For what it's worth, even the Yamaha website is a bit ambiguous... Check out this screenshot from the 'A close up look at the Yamaha FJ-09' video, which clearly shows both wiring bundles routed behind the handlebar risers. It's a quick fix to get things routed per the factory recommendations, but at this point I honestly don't know what that is.
  20. What is the correct configuration? Mine came off the showroom floor with the brake side wiring in front of the risers, and the clutch side wiring behind the risers (which makes sense to keep the wiring away from the ignition switch area). I just assumed they were all delivered this way...
  21. Ha! I can definitely relate... I got called for jury duty a couple of weeks ago, and managed to spend $500+ on random FJ accessories while I sitting in the jury assembly room, bored out of my mind. On the plus side, the county paid me $6 for my service, so I'm technically only out $494 net...
  22. Yeah, if I'd really taken the time to think rationally about it, I doubt I could have justified the cost. But when I saw the RokForm mount on a friend's FZ9, I just knew I had to have one... and let's face it, motorcycle accessories tend to be emotion-based purchases. Now I just need to keep the next Am-Ex bill away from my wife!
