  1. The R3 is a twin, so the "R" designation matches.

With 600cc sales in the tank, and looming CARB emissions, the "new" supersport class will be ~650 - 700cc twins. Look at the MotoAmerica twins cup, it was full of MT07's last year. This year it's a bunch of RS660's. Once this R7 is homologated into MA, they'll be a popular bike in that series. If it's being raced in a pro-series championship, then it's absolutely deserving of the R branding.

I have a sneaky suspicion that if this R7 sells well, in a few years we'll see a clean sheet R7 design that's less related to the MT07 and even more aggressive.

Put a hole in the oil pan. Looks like a rock hit it. 70 miles into a planned 1000 mile weekend. Just sitting waiting for AAA to flatbed the bike home.

Can I just drop the oil pan to replace it or do I have to pull the whole exhaust?

EDIT TO ADD: AAA can't find a towing service to get the bike. It would have saved me an 1.5 hours if I would have known that and I could have gotten my son to come pick me up. So now AMA and AAA have refused to pick me up in the MS Delta.

EDITED AGAIN: Traced the oil leak over a mile back from the traffic light where I noticed the leak. Nothing. No dip. No bump. Just a random rock.

Ughhh. Sorry to hear that. I suppose 70 miles from home is a lot better than 500!

Yes, you have to drop the exhaust to replace it, at least I did.

Were you able to find a tow?

96 is not to be overlooked. Plus there a few more hidden gems in the area....Sawyers Bar....Salmon River.

On one ride up there, we took a un maintained logging road between 299 and 36. We had to ride around fallen branches and other debris but it was paved road. Got to see a logging helicopter picking up logs and flying them out....quite a road and Ive been trying to find it on maps for a few years now.

36, 96 ride is for sure on my list for this year.

I think I've been on that road too. National Forest Service road 1 or something like that? Absolutely amazing!

Winters aren't too cold in NC for riding, surely you jest? I ride in Ohio much of the Winter, the weather down there is typically much warmer and nicer than here in Central Ohio. Where issues can/will arise is obviously at higher altitudes, but my sister has 3 houses at Norris lake in Tenn, and they spend alot of time down there in the Winter because it's so much nicer than here in Ohio. :)

What isn't nicer than Ohio in the winter?? haha
