Ear plugs differ in ability to tune out wind noise. It might be worth you trying a different set? I use pinlock versions and they have a little plastic insert which you can swap according to which frequency you want to attenuate.

I just use the Moldex foam plugs, when they are in and I am stationary they block sound pretty well but on the move the wind takes over.

What do you use? Do you have a link?

  2. My Tracer is only 2 and a half years old and still has the original battery, but my FZ6 Fazer which I bought new in 2004 only had the original battery replaced after 11 years, including over a year where it wasn't started once.

I have an Optimate 3+ that the Fazer is permanently connected to when not being ridden, which is most of the time. It only has 57,000 km on the clock after almost 16 years so it hasn't worked hard.

I thought i would chime in here on the Givi V47 top case that i have.  they say you can fit 2 full face helmets in there....but i am not sure which ones.  I can't get my wife's and mine in there.  We have a med and a small bell full face and they don't fit.

I have a Givi accessory catalog and it shows that the V47 can take 2 x flip up type helmets. There are 2 different helmet icons in the catalog and the V47 icon is not a full face.

Compare the helmet icons on the 2 different box specs below. Although, the dimensions suggest that the V47 is a bigger case, it must be a shape issue.

  4. I have a Givi Monokey plate on my Tracer and my Fazer, and two boxes, an E52 Maxia and a B33.

Unfortunately I discovered while miles from home that the E52 doesn't accommodate 2 AGV Corsa helmets, before I bought my Corsa R I had an X-Lite 802 and it fitted in easily with my wife's Corsa. Must be the aero fin on the back of the helmets.

  5. Well I plugged the hose leading under the tank as described in the opening post and just left the other one open to atmosphere from the bottom of the tank, put everything back together and the bike runs fine. I haven't taken it for a ride yet as it is raining today but hopefully all is well and it won't strand me somewhere!

    Happy new year! 🥳

California model Hoses: You will have one tank overfill drain line that remains unchanged. There will be a second tank line which is the vent line. Reconnect this line directly to the rollover valve (inline plastic canister about 2" tall) which has its line running down and exiting next to the overfill line. This one is important because it allows air to enter the tank and prevent a vacuum (fuel starvation), as well as venting an over pressure tank.

I am unable to locate the mentioned rollover valve to be able to complete the installation. Can anyone supply pictures of where this item is?

Akrapovic has 2 types of headers available for the Tracer, stainless steel and titanium with a titanium can and carbon end cap. Is one type of header better than the other? I do like the look of titanium headers when they turn blue.

Mine came as a complete system and I'm not sure what material the headers are made from, but they do have a blueish tinge in parts after 8,000km.

  8. My bike has this box under the tank... what is it for?

EDIT: I guess it is the aforementioned charcoal canister but I live about as far away from California as you can get so I don't know why it is there, can I safely toss it?

@Panther6834 check out this thread for a detailed write up on the install of the split soundbomb.  I ended up redoing mine by bending and drilling out a bracket that came with the bike to tuck it up under the nose.

The link in your post takes me back to the forum home page, can you provide a better route to the thread?

I have a split soundbomb that I have no idea how to mount.

  10. “AND NOW THE END IS NEAR…”
So warbled Frank Sinatra in what became his signature piece. I won’t burst into song lest I frighten passing dogs and small children, but I can also say that now the end is near for me too, as I have in fact finished the final farkle!

And as I’m always interested in learning what others have done to their bikes by way of farkling, add-ons, enhancements, call them what you may, here is my list, which I now don’t expect to have to add to. These enhancements are mainly in two categories - increasing safety and/ or comfort and ease of use. Just a cuppla the following could be regarded as ‘bling’!

    Safety enhancements:

    • Front hi-viz LED lights on DIY mounting-bar

    • DIY rear hi-viz flashing brake LEDs

    • 2” auxiliary blind-spot mirrors

    • Risers/ extenders for rear-view mirrors

    • Not-quite Mack truck-like Stebel Magnum horn

    • DIY Stainless-steel mesh radiator guard.

Add-ons aimed at increased comfort and/ or ease of use:

    • Genuine Grip Puppies

    • Span-adjustable brake and clutch levers

    • Rubber-topped foot-pegs

    • DIY side-stand lowering-peg extension

    • Go Cruise throttle-lock ‘cruise control’

    • cncfx side-stand foot enlarger

    • DIY easier-to-locate button on indicator switch.

    Others:

    • Rear rack carrying a 28L Third Gear top-box

    • AMHP headlight protectors

    • DIY carbon-look protective knee patches on tank sides

    • Decorative ‘MT-09 Tracer’ and Yamaha badges on OE hard panniers.

The all-up cost of these things has been around AUD$845, which in many cases includes shipping from some faraway places. AUD$845 = CAN$833, USD$645, GBP£501, €562.

Most of these little jobs have been written-up, with pix, on the ‘what did you do… today’ Thread here.

    Happy days!
