I just covered ~4000 kilometers in the last couple of weeks. Sargent seat was not yet available, and I was NOT about to ride that much with the stupid stock seat. I did that last year and it was horrible. The worst part for me was sliding into the tank, because the stock seat slopes forward to the seat. Very bad IMHO. Having to correct your seating position every 5-10 minutes gets tedious when you ride the whole day, many days in a row.

So I bought the Yamaha OEM Comfort Seat. Just trying it on the bike, it immediately felt worse(!). Like the seat was split in two with a line down the middle. Felt like the two things on the seat was high as mountains. :)

Something had to happen, so I took home the seat anyway, and started taking of the cover. This is what I found:

I simply can't understand the reasoning behind this! The low part makes the foam so thin that, after a couple of hours riding, you can feel the metal hardware used for locking the seat to the bike! It also makes the seat uncomfortable IMHO. WTF Yamaha!

I don't have any pictures of it, but I went out and bought some seat foam (50kg, quite dense but not completely hard as wood) and with a thin box cutter hobby knif blade (https://i.imgur.com/73ufw18.jpg) I cut out a triangle and mounted it on the seat. It's not perfect, but it almost feels like the seat is flat, like I wanted.

The two weird "lines" can also be seen in the picture where I have taken off the cover. It feels like there's just some cotton inside it. It's not gel (thank god) and it doesn't hold heat better than other areas of the seat (as gel would). I might try to put on another cover without those weird lumps, but as of now, I'm quite pleased with the seat. It doesn't slope and push me into the tank, it's a bit taller than the stock seat which gives better comfort for the knees/legs and it's quite comfortable.
I drove 500km every day for 8 days in a row and it worked fine. Much better than the stock seat.

I might buy a Sargent Cycle Seat when it comes out, but I will definitely wait for reviews before throwing money at it.

send one of your seats to Terry at Terry's custom seats in tennessee and he will fix you right up.  absolutely love mine.

  2. if you have a set of Givi crash bars on your bike, I would be sure to add a set of highway pegs on them.  I am amazed at how much longer i can ride with them and my terry adcox seat.

It’s a fine tuning thing @nhchris. My OEM suspension was twitchy and dived too much on braking. Once I had the fork internals matched to my weight and revalved, plus an upgraded shock this removed the instability that came from the cheap OEM setup. I could then raise the forks in the triple trees to give me a  controlled sharpness that I prefer.  I now have a very responsive handling bike, without the instability, so it is possible to have a happy compromise. Without the suspension upgrades I would not have raised the forks as it would exacerbate the problems.

You can try it easily. Remove the front wheel and mudguard, loosen the lower pinch bolts completely, just loosen the upper ones and gently rotate the fork whilst pushing upwards until you have raised the fork the amount you want. Repeat on the other side and torque up the upper and lower pinch bolts to spec.

you don't have to remove anything...with the bike on the center stand, loosen one side pinch bolts just enough that you can rotate and twist up the fork up to your desired height and then re-torque.  repeat on the other side.  it only takes about 10 mins to do this.

After some research on many exhaust systems in the U.S. and U.K. I found for my liking this was the best.

Full titanium and carbon fiber. No issues with center stand as you can see.

  5. I am just looking to see what you guys/girls are using for changing your own tires.  I have 2 bikes and soon to be 3 and it can get costly to send everything to a shop to get changed and balanced.  What are you using to break the beads?   I don't want to get sucked into a tool that is cheap and going to break after i use it a couple of times.  Even if you have some good links to get the tools at a reasonable price.  I have a set of spoons and rim protectors ...but breaking the beads are not easy without the proper tools.

Anyone know if the Bagster seat will work for a 2019 Tracer GT? And how comfortable is it? I found one online for $280, and the only other option I've seen is a Corbin at $500, or the Yamaha comfort seat which seems to get mixed reviews.

I'm finding the stock seat to be very uncomfortable - always sliding forward and bunching up my pants. On a hot day, terribly uncomfortable for me.

I prefer to set at the very back of the seat, so I would want something that doesn't push me any farther forward.

i here the bagster gets some good reviews but i would give Terry Adcox a call and talk to him first.  if you like what you hear it's your decision.  at $250us it's a really great deal ...i swear by mine.

@stumpy Would you say the terry's seat is higher than stock? looks like it. I have to ride in the low position. worried about  being on my tip toes.

yes it is...keeps you from sliding up into the tank.  i'm 5'7" and i am on my toes and balls of my feet

  8. i can't say enough good things about my terry adcox seat.  my sargent was way better than my stock seat but terry's seat is that much better.  for $250 us for a custom seat made to order I think it is great value for your dollar

  9. I have been reading a lot of articles on tires lately because I am getting ready to replace my stockers that have just rolled 12,000kms.

I am particularly interested in peoples experience with Shinko brand tires( already know about Michelins, Dunlops, Perellis ...etc.)  I have had an eye on the 016 Verge X2 tires and the 009 Ravens.  The price point is attractive for sure.  I am not a big rain rider or road racer but I do like to push it a little when the road gets twisty.  So far the stock D222's have been adequate for the most part but I have noticed what others have stated about traction when it gets colder out or wet.

So I guess i'm looking for input on longevity, traction in wet, dry and cold or any other info you could share.

  10. after reading your post @cruizin I looked into this product further and liked what I was seeing.  So I bought some and put it on every leather thing I owned.  Our baseball gloves feel amazing now and our boots have been restored to their original condition or better. So far so good with everything I have treated...not oily feeling at all....seems to be absorbed into the leather as opposed to sitting on the surface on the leather.  nice stuff.

  11. After  heading to Tennessee from north of Toronto to ride some of their amazing roads, and putting on a little over 4000kms, the last 1339kms were the most amazing for me.  It wasn't the roads or the scenery.  It was being able to put those 1339kms on with no pain and very little discomfort.  I got my seat back from Terry late last season and was able to put about 400km on it before the bike went away for the winter, but I knew I had something special here.  I had a few short rides to start our spring season with all of the rain we have been having to get ready for my Tennessee ride. My ride started by watching my fellow riding buddies standing on their pegs within an hour or so and this went on for the whole trip down, which we did in two days.  All of the following days riding the same things were happening....then I realized that I haven't been standing at all...nothing but sitting on my seat and using my highway pegs once and while.  Now the true test was the last day heading home. We left early and was making good time.  I rode straight home in 300km stretches between fuel stops and when I got home 1339km later I felt awesome...could have rode some more and couldn't believe it.

If anybody is considering purchasing a seat, I would strongly recommend talking to Terry at Terry"s custom seats.  The best $250 I have spent to date....not to mention the Givi crash bars with the highway pegs.
