  1. First commute Shinko 705 tire review. I'm not a tire expert so take this for what it's worth.  I commute 90 miles one way. The first mile and a half is on sand and gravel road.

Drove across some wet grass in my driveway first. Not so great traction, but it's grass. Tires feel great on the sand and gravel. Sand is hard packed since it rained yesterday. This is why I bought them and they work as advertised. I have no plans to offroad the FJ. The rest of my commute was 2 to 4 lane roads and about 10 miles of freeway. The tires are fine on asphalt. Hit speeds over 70 with no issues. Slight hum from the treads but nothing annoying. The few curves I had were no issues grip wise. The bike actually wants to turn in easier probably because the back is a 170, not 180. Just a guess. Feels more flickable. Hard breaking feels normal. You can feel the front treads when you are slowing to a stop but no other time. There feels like a little more vibration in the handle bars but it seemed to get better during the ride. Used the word feels a lot, lol. I feel like I got more than my money's worth. Great tires. I'll update if there are any issues.

Strange, I also mentally wondered about this.   As a confirmed BMWer for many years, I don't know of a shaft-drive 850, UNLESS it was an older R850 R Roadster.   I owned many versions of this BMW Roadster model, an 1100, an 1150, and several 1200s.   Great bikes all, but getting a bit bulky and heavy (and costly!) for this biker.

I took a demo ride on the 850 Adventure. Absolutely loved it. The price was almost $19,000 US. No thanks.

Replaced Motodynamic flushmounted front turn signals with CNC Racing Sky turn signals. Used Evotech mounting brackets (required drilling out to 10mm, but available from same shop as lights, so free shipping), TST connectors, TST relay. All straight forward except wire colors were reversed on TST connectors, which I only discovered after wiring everything together. I did plug into bike and discover before reassembly of sidepanels and bike, so no biggie.

Nothing new here, but as great as the Motodynamic turn signals look, they are not very visible from the front. Not a safety issue, but every time I went to turn right off a street if there was a vehicle waiting to pull out from right side, they would sit there until I started my turn, which told me they could not see turn signals or was questioning what they were looking at. Someone that does not ride cant be expected to know where to look on a bike for turn signals either. The fact that half of the lights are dedicated to running light and half to turn signals does not help either. If everything flashed when using as turn signals it would have helped. It is also an invitatation for the police to pull you over of course.

Got tired of getting on and off my bike several times a day to open and close garage door, so I purchased a Chamberlain mini remote, some industrial strength velcro, and a lanyard, which is clipped on to ignition key ring. Lanyard is multi purpose. It should prevent a fiasko in the event that the remote comes loose while riding and in case I forget to remove it, or the key, while parked anywhere other than my garage. I may very well install a button and wire to a garage remote under seat over the winter, but wanted to do something, even if only temporary.

Also added a couple of simple Yamaha decals. Removed the original ones, not because I didn't like them, but rather because I like plain, simple look and wanted to see what bike looked like without them, fully prepared to replace with OEM decals, which I might also do eventually. Original decals were off for a few weeks but I wanted to see what the ones I added today look like. If I collect a dollar every time someone asks me "is that a Tracer?" (it is a '17 FJ-09), I will have money for replacement OEM decals in no time!..... and yes I was getting that question regularly even when original decals were still on.

Edit: Apologize for picture quality. I see now after posting that I got carried away with compressing.

What size Shinko is on the rear? Can't find OEM size on the web.

Just dropped $1200 on a Dianese Racing 3 D-Air jacket. Could not justify spending $600 on my helmet while not equally complementing with the latest state of the art protection which covers an many other vital organs. Even the deductible on my insurance warrants the extra 500-600 of protection over what I wear today.  Give a review after I get it Wednesday.

    Interested

  6. Installed a Blaster-X tail light assembly last weekend. What a difference and worth every penny. Very bright and lit all the way across verses the two little triangles being lit. The braking strobe effect really gets your attention. I didn't hook up the integrated signal lights because I actually like the Yamaha pumpkin lights. I bought the optional control switch but so far have only used default mode. Took about 10 minutes to install just because of the switch. The light was less than a minute to install including removing the old one. I'd post a pic but there are great videos like this one.

Never too late to get info.👍

It did smooth things out, mostly in STD mode, but A mode still feels jerky at low speeds. The mod for me was a positive one but I know the bike will never be smooth without a full tune.

I should also say my aftermarket exhaust helped as well after finding a good baffle set up (hole size and number). To me it goes against what I've seen with other exhaust updates. Usually fueling gets worse but in this case it got better. Not sure why but who am I to question. Love the burbles on over run downshifting.

Thanks man. I'm going to try it. I figure a 16th of an inch should do it after going through forum posts.

Thanks for all this info dbeau. I was looking to smooth out my new 2017 and thought 'what the hell', I'll adjust the APS a little at a time to see what the difference was. I know there is no way of getting the numbers with the 2017 but figured I could always put it back if needed. I did this with my old Versys 650 as a common fix was to adjust the TPS a little at a time to smooth things out.

With my FJ I had to unplug the APS to get my rachet in there and of course, I started the bike while it was still unpluged. And as expected the bike threw a code and the check engine light now remains on.

I like doing my own work and forums like this are a great resourse. I wasn't sure which size plug and pins to order from Corsa Tech so I just got both. BTW, the OBD2 code reader is now $14 on Amazon.

    Thanks again.

I know this is a little late, but did adjusting the APS a little at a time on your 17 work? I had my ECU flashed but there is still an abrupt throttle on in all modes.

  9. A little late to this post but i just wanted to mention that I bought my FJ used with the eBay pegs already mounted. I have put 5000 miles on the bike and the rubber is tearing on the left peg. i am already missing a large piece of the lateral raised strip of rubber. I'm OK with this seeing as the pegs are inexpensive but I thought I'd let everyone know. This might be because I mount and dismount the bike from the peg, not the ground. Not as flexible as I used to be.
