This just arrived from Motostorm, Italy 🙂

Givi D2122S screen.  Have heard good things about this screen from those that are 'shaped' in a similar way to me so will be keen to fit and test out over the next week or so.  I like the look of it already 👍

Am running it on my GT. Looks better, offers good body protection but makes absolutely no difference in the height or amount of turbulence above the screen.

@nhchris - Did you pre-fill the new filter with fresh oil before you put in on the bike?   That might explain where the ‘extra’ oil appeared from (it probably would have looked nice & clean, however).

I put some oil in the filter but didn't fill it. Put in the recommended 2.7l and bike was sitting snug on the max. Started it up and let it cool a bit and the oil was on the min (i suppose the oil filter filling up). Had to top up with another 100ml.I assume this is because i left the bike drained overnight so additional oil slowly drained (which would not have done if i changed oil immediately.

Funnily enough the extra oil only appeared after i moved the bike. Took it off the centre stand. wheeled it to a new spot and put it on the centre stand and it was now above the sight glass (on the side stand held upright it shows oil at the full mark as should be the case)

    Here's a weird oil story...

On my most recent change I pulled the plug and let her drain away.  Then I pulled the filter. Then I let the bike sit and drain for a several hours.

I installed the new filter and spun the plug in temporarily until I could get a new crush washer.  A few days later I had the washer and was ready to finish the job.

I spun the drain plug out to install the washer and about 3 oz of oil gushed onto the floor!

Where did all that oil come from?  Apparently full synth takes a  loooong time to drain completely.

I noticed the same as i had left the plug in over night as i realised that on this bike the oil drain washer is not part of the drain plug bolt as on my previous bike. I assume it's just the rest of the oil draining away from the engine slowly. Which also means that a lot of the engine lubrication is missing at first startup.

After the discussion on this topic these past few days, I tried it myself and could not do it safely or accurately, crouching down beside the bike to see the oil level while trying to hold the bike up with my hands above my head was sketchy at best. - Its not necessarily top heavy but it isn't light or stable either.

Having the bike straight up and down (side to side) would be much more critical for accurate reading than having the rear wheel 2" off the ground.  If you can actually do it that way accurately, more power to you, I cant do it.  👍

To be honest I can't see why Yamaha decided to make the new instructions indicate it shouldn't be done on the centre stand. It is obviously much safer and easier on the centre stand (and I think everyones preference given the option).

Now I am in a little bit of doubt is to which is the correct reading. The one on the ground which shows oil at max, or one on the centre stand which is showing it slightly above the sight glass.

There is a school of thought that believes, in a pinch, that you can flip the washer 180 deg and reuse a second time.

Why a dealer would do that when he can over charge you for a new washer seems strange.

Well when I turned up at the dealer, he was out of stock, said none were on order and told me that they often use honda ones instead. I think there are probably 10 year old bikes here running on the original washer

But it's trivial to get it right without the weird obsessing in oil threads like this one and other Yamaha model boards.

You'd think it would be trivial but I'm now in a situation where on the centre stand the oil goes above the sight glass, and, when on the side stand held upright the oil is smack bang on max.

My GT has the same mileage as yours @bugie I have not had any oil consumption problems. But the sight glass readings seem to be very sensitive to how level the bike is when you look at the sight glass. Pick a level spot and top of your oil and check it in the same spot every time.Check your oil when the engine is hot, wait a couple of minutes and take your reading.

Thanks! Yeah, this is the process I follow and I definitely do have a decrease in my oil level as you can see in the pic

  8. Hey all,

So about 3.5k km ago i had the bike serviced and have noticed that the oil level seems to have dropped and now sits just under the half way mark. This has caused the red oil light to come on a few times when cold (but then turns off within 20 secs). I am also not seeing any oil on the ground or oil around the engine. Bike is currently at 11.5k km on the clock. Has anyone else experienced oil consumption on their GT?

I have removed the db killer on my akra (no remap). Shouldn't be relevant but am throwing it out there just in case.

.....and with a 4 gallon tank, thats not quite going to get me from home to work and back without needing fuel! at least the rocket has a larger fuel tank on it.

The rocket is a 2.5l so i don't think the bigger tank will make a difference

    Hi all.

Just a simple question, how do you get onto your tracer🤔, what I mean is do you just have the side stand down and swing your right leg over or have the main stand down, climb on by using the footpeg then push forward off the stand.

side stand down and raise my leg over.

If you are finding the bike too tall you might want to look at installing lower bones

Yes,starter motor is running continuously, and to stop it you have to turn engine off at key. Going from Run to Stop and back to Run doesn't stop the starter motor. I first started bike and after 2/3 minutes,I hit the kill switch only to hear starter motor still turning. Felt starter motor, and it was pretty warm. Could have been much worse if I hadn't  stopped engine. When key is switched back on,everything is o.k. (until you hit the start button).

Will find out what dealer and Yamaha do about it and report back.

    Kenny.

This is an interesting one. I (as I suspect a lot of people do) never use the kill switch so there is a good chance people will never idenfify it

  12. Hey all,

So i am currently looking into installing a Power commander with auto-tune on my GT. I am only favouring this over a remap because over in Malta there aren't any reliable companies i would trust to remap my bike (the pleasures of living on a tiny island), and, i am apprehensive about sending my ecu abroad.

I was looking at the installation instructions for the PC and can see that it states that I should posi-tap into the wiring loom. I assume this is to have an ignition controlled power supply (correct me if I am wrong please). I personally would like to avoid posi-taping on the wiring loom, so was wondering if there was another source I can use that would not touch the OEM wiring loom (such as the number plate light after the connector plug)?

Yes. The main visor never fogs. I guess I should have been more specific. The internal shaded drop drown visor fogs when behind a big windshield.

I need to get some paste version of catcrap. The liquid spray version froze a couple times and doesn't work well anymore. Probably solve my issues.

Yeah, the internal visor does that a lot. Have you tried removing the chin guard as i find my breath rebounds off it straight up  onto the visor?
