Just wanted to follow-up with a post from earlier in this thread and mention that the Hockley General Store has now re-opened!

Not sure if their hours are the same or not, but regardless - it's good news!

    Cheers

    Rob

    Thanks for the info!

I think he meant he went to a bar and thought about it then washed it one more time. Not sure what a clay bar is but maybe it’s an autocorrect for political correctness, or something.

A clay bar is used in auto detailing. It’s a resin bar that can remove contaminants, pollutants and debris from paint, fibreglass, etc. It works extremely well. The paint will never be more smooth. Then you buff and wax after. It’s a great product.

I was working on the bike this weekend and want to rescind my comment about the cable location being on top from the factory.  It dawned on me that I had a valve adjustment done at one point.  I suspect that the cable was originally behind (under) the breather hose on mine as well. and when the airbox was re-installed after the valve adjustment the breather hose was mis-routed UNDER the clutch cable.  I had the airbox out this weekend and upon installing it, the logical location for the hose was OVER the clutch cable.

Hmmm, good catch! Did you notice any wear occurring?

Mine on my 2015 is on top.  Looks exactly like your picture.  I'd leave it alone.  I bought my bike one year old with 2800 miles on it and I suspect there was no reason for the original owner to replace the cable that soon.  I have been carrying a spare for about three years after I read about breaking issues.  My bike now has 41300 miles on the original cable.  Good luck.  BTW did yours break?

It seemed that the clutch cable was actually deflecting the larger hose (which I found out is for the air induction hose) out of the position that it seemed to want to sit. I rerouted it behind and seems much better.

The old cable hadn’t snapped. I just had the new one and some time so I decided to do the job. There had been no signs of wear on the old cable, but there’s only about 6000km on the bike. (I picked it up on Oct of 2018 with under 2000km on it)

Same here. Tied the new to the old and pulled it through. My stock cable has not 1 cable thread on it broke so I put it up as a spare.

I just sized it up and fished it through, incorrectly at first however. Lol. Live, ask for help and learn!

Hi @getpetey - On today’s episode of Things You May Not Want To See:

I replaced mine by tying the new cable to the old cable, and pulling it through from the top, so I’m pretty sure this is the correct factory routing.

    Dammit!

@texscottyd, thank you for your response. Another beer and 25 minutes, good to go. Glad I caught it!

  7. So I decided to update the clutch cable on my 2015 FJ-09 today. Everything went fairly well and had everything back together and adjusted and as I was looking over the job,  On the left side of the engine I started wondering if I had routed the clutch cable incorrectly. Can anybody confirm if the clutch cable in the foreground is supposed to be behind the coolant hose? I know I know, should’ve took a picture first! LOL Thanks in advance.

  8. So I have both the Puig touring (recent addition and not much time with it) as well as  the sport screen. Touring for , well, touring, and the sport for bombing around and day trips the rest of the time. Really spend more time with the sport screen on. While riding around, I would always fiddle with it. Found that if I kind of forced the bend down on the sport screen just a bit, the air seemed so much cleaner. So, today I taped off the screen, followed the OEM contour and chopped two inches off the top. Turned out great! Took it for a ride and it seems like it is just perfect!

  9. I really have no technical info to add, but for someone who may be looking for suspension work in the future, this is a great thread. Thank you all.

I’m a fairly novice rider, so don’t think I could use a full suspension upgrade to its fullest as I don’t mind the OEM for now. I likely just don’t know any better. I am going to have it set up properly as a first step this spring however.

Thanks again to all the contributors on this thread.

All the stock ones behave pretty much the same way, especially if you’re north of about 180 pounds.

    .

I have had my 2015 FJ for a little over a year and have done nothing to the suspension. Maybe I'm just naive and don't know the difference, but the suspension never  really bothered me. Granted, I'm a newer rider with only a few years of experience. I am getting a little more free with the leans and the throttle though....... I was talking to my service provider and we'll be setting up the stock suspension in the new year. However, I am around the 210 mark Maybe I'll be out of luck. Well, worst case scenario I suppose it will be "better" than the factory settings.....

  11. Heya folks. In the midst of planning my first real tour with an old friend for the early summer of 2019. Our plan is rough right now with a lot of room for fine tuning.

The jist of our plan is to meet in Mackinaw City and launch from there. Our nightly stops will be near, but not limited to,  the following areas:

    - Bark River/Escanaba MI

    - Sister Bay WI

    - Plymouth/Fon Du Lac WI area

    - Iron River, MI

    - Copper Harbour, MI

    - Marquette, MI (final destination before heading our separate ways)

Just curious if anyone from these areas or anyone who has toured this general area has any good campground locations? Been looking. and there are tonnes, but just seeing if anyone has a cool spot or good experiences at a place.

    Cheers and TIA
