  1. Putting the bike in the truck (or maybe the trailer) and heading up to Bristol VT to some riding next week.  Need to truck it up there as need the truck as well for other plans.

So my other bike has clear access to the lower triple clamp - this one not so easy.  Canyon dancers will not work with the hand guards - unless I remove them.

Who has trailered a GT - ideas?  Images?

  2. Also rockymountainatv for OEM parts and tires.

Have been buying tires and KTM parts from there for a long time and when I purchased the Yamaha was happy to see that they cater for this parts as well.

I have never found a better deal than Rocky Mountain for tires.

Luckily I have a buddy who will mount and balance them for the cost of a lunch with beers - never a better reason than to mount new tires, than lunch and beers.

  3. For mine, I just used a piece of 1 1/4" aluminum plate (actually angle that I cut the angle off where it is behind the peg hanger mount).  It was very light, just a couple of mm thick.

Picked up a 3' length for $7 from the depot.

  4. @coop, I went the same path as @fjrpittsburgh and use the 12" Powerlet/BMW to heating clothing cord and just leave that plugged into the socket when using heated gear.

Like you I wanted to mount in the plastic trim around the tank, but decided not to as I did not think it would support the outlet and me plugging stuff into it all the time - possibility of it breaking.

  5. Did not want to high jack the great @pgeldz "Finally Got One" thread.  He makes reference to a rental company putting a lot of Tracer GTs into their fleet.

Anyway, EagleRider are listing the GT (and other Yamaha bikes) in their fleet with GTs in CA (three locations); WA; and Nevada.

No affiliation to EagleRider and never used them - their fleet and network seems huge.

EagleRider carries the largest selection of Yamaha motorcycles for rent at...

  6. I have rekluse on my dirt bike as well.  Different sensation to QS on the road.

Would be interesting to see what MV Augusta have done with Reckluse on there 800cc tourer.

QS downshift allows more braking  without unsettling the bike in the twisties.  Based on my last five days on the rental bike only.  Plus the bike makes great sounds auto blipping.

Back to topic, I would look into reflash for GT if it includes up and down QS.

  7. As others have done, added simple thin gauge aluminium bracket to the passenger peg hanger to mount a couple of powerlet outlets for the heated gear (next winter!).  This is 1 1/4" angle.

Wired up to two of the circuits on the PDM60, programmed for 20 amps each.

That PDM60 is expensive, but worth it in my opinion if you are hanging more stuff on any bike.  I am using three of the six circuits, GPS, and these two powerlets.  If you are not familiar with it, you have a utility that allows you to program amperage each circuit, delay on and off, -ve switching, trippped circuit breaker resets by turning off ignition.  Very clever.  And just one lead to the battery.

The unit fits very nicely in the space under the seat latch "bridge" under the seat.  This is wasted space anyway.

Yes I know the Tracer charging system is good for 29.5 amps (~350 watts) and would have no intention of running these at 20 amps concurrently (passenger will have to be cold, so operator can stay warm).

  8. Did a terrific ride down to Abingdon VA - the excuse was to have dinner at the oldest continually operating bar in VA.  843 mile weekend of mostly back roads from Northern VA down to the TN border.  A hot 150 miles on route 29 coming home was the only downside.

All the roads were good, but memorable was 61 into Tazwell; 16 (Back of the Dragon); 42 to Saltville; Sunday morning, 58 to Hillsville; 221 to near Roanoke; 419 to 220; etc.

Good weekend on a good bike.

Image was on the Blue Ridge Parkway vicinity Roanoke.

  9. @stonegoat, welcome.  Get the GT.  With 35 years in the dirt you have more skills than 95% of the riders out there.  Methanol discussion is not an issue for new bikes.  Yes I buy ethanol free 87 when I see it, but do not go out of my way.  Throttle is fine.  GT is the first jap bike in 30 years for me and is great.

I am sure the Honda is great to.  Not many bad bikes out there anymore.

    Good luck.
