  1. I received two letters today from Yamaha indicating my 2021 Tracer 9 GT has safety recalls. One is the well-known issue of losing throttle control along with a malfunction light on the dash. The fix for that is re-flashing the ECU with a new program (I’d read here that dealers were replacing throttle bodies to fix this🙄). Catch is if the ECU was previously re-flashed by aftermarket then there’s no guarantee that the new re-flash won’t kill the ECU. I hadn’t heard that any companies were doing the Tracer 9 yet and I only checked Ivan’s Performance, no listing yet for Tracer 9. Next recall is about the throttle tube cracking if you either dropped the bike on the right side or had to pull really hard on the grip, resulting in cracking. Yamaha will replace just the tube if you haven’t dropped the bike, if you have then it’s a whole new throttle assembly! Of course, both letters indicate I should not further operate the bike except to ride it to the shop, where it would most likely sit for weeks or months until the parts come in. Optimistically, maybe they have the parts in stock🤣.
  2. Buy the ‘21-‘22, you’ll like it! I came off an FJR1300 and got a red ‘21 GT purchased June 2021, last one my dealer had he only got 3. Added the factory trunk (took 7 months), rack (took 3 months), and touring windshield (took 4 months). Also an EvoTech radiator guard, R&G dashboard screen protector, Woodcraft swing arm sliders/spools, and front fender & rear mudguard extenders. Since I have a 30” inseam and the Tracer is so tall I raised the forks 5 mm & added a Soupy’s lowering link in the rear. Much more comfortable & confident however it’s a bit too low (cat/muff box occasionally hits)-need to adjust it. The kickstand is a bit long (didn’t want to buy the nice alloy adjustable stand as I had on my FJR1300) and now it’s more effort to get on the centerstand-naturally. Waiting for some Sw-Motech engine guards to arrive, quote was 8 weeks lol! The active suspension is…jury is out as of yet. So far, no real complaints except it would be nice if it had more than two settings. Electronics in general are overwhelming especially since I’m 65 lol. And the dash font is sooo small, hard to read with my old eyes. Once you know where everything is it’s not un-tolerable. Cruise control & heated grips are awesome, seat is not too horrible (also waiting for the factory touring seat - been 8 months). Handlebars need more sweep for my liking, your results may vary. Did the 600-mile service myself (15-yr retired Tech) and the throttle body synch wasn’t too horrible (1st time is always the hardest). I really like the Tracer quick shifter it’s the bomb. I feel like a MotoGP rider banging gears-it backfires every shift!
  3. Keith - I apologize for missing your question about the 600 mile service. It took me some months to get 600 miles as I was distracted with track days on my RZ500! Anyway I just did the 1st service myself including throttle body synchronization check. That was the worst part, followed the factory manual which had me remove more parts than really needed. The synch was off enough to fix it, only about 3 cm. Only task I wasn’t able to do was plug in the diagnostic computer & check for faults.
  4. Has anyone else tried the higher foot peg option for their Tracer 9 GT? I did looking to get them out of my way at stops (had the same issue w/my ‘01 FZ-1, went to rearsets). And my left heal rested on the centerstand tab, bugged me. I’m 5’8” so no cramped knees. The right side was easy, everything moves with the two peg bolts. Left side would be also, if the shift lever pivot moved with the peg. Since it doesn’t the shift lever is at a tight angle that affects lever effort. Also it will contact the side stand switch & prevent anything but 1st gear if adjusted to where I want it (happened to me yay). I tried rotating the top linkage on the spline, adjusted just one rod end, all back to the pivot is too low (or the pivot on a different lever needs to be much lower than the lever). Yamaha parts list only shows one shift lever, B7N-18111-00-00, so I wonder what Yamaha was thinking?
  5. I don’t have the factory torque value, and recently my dealer didn’t either! Yamaha released the bikes before the service manual was ready, even for the dealers. You can get close using the bolt’s diameter & a torque chart, typically found in service manuals for other bikes. If you don’t have any, let me know the bolt size & I’ll see what I have.
  6. I also noticed that forks seemed rather stiff with ignition off, and just tried my 9GT with the key on…still stiff as a board…engine running…still stiff. Perhaps the IMU needs to sense movement to fire off the electric suspension??
  7. Tried figuring out the control settings on my ‘21 Tracer 9 GT yikes🤪!
  8. Picked up my new Tracer 9 GT today, left my FJR13 there on consignment. First impressions is it’s tall for my 30” inseam, 1st gear is really tall, the bars need more sweep, and it’s got a TON of settings! Need to study the owner’s manual heavily lol. Not too happy with missing fasteners on the saddlebag lid strap & side cover - factory oversights that the dealer didn’t catch...they’ll make it right. 91 CBD866 4450 4 E76 A43 C 324151472675 — Postimages
