I've had that problem with cars.  When the kids were younger would get one of them to help me bleed the brakes.  Sometimes they would just let go of the brake pedal which would create enough suction to get an air bubble in the brake line.  Since then I always release the brake pedal/lever slowly.  Now I usually use a hand pumped vacuum bleeder - works great.

its a closed system ,if you close the valve before releasing brake how is air getting in ??

what year is your bike ? Your gauges look similar to mine on the newer split screen . I cannot get my bike to lift up unless I am really trying hard in 1 gear .
I’m wondering if it’s becusze the newer models have that 2 inch extra wheel base making it harder to lift .
or… is my bike really out of tune due to the new exhaust I put on ?
im waiting for the ecu to get reflashed next week .

so does your newer model come ip on its own when your hammering it ? Or do you gotta clutch up to pick it up ?
    thanks

Bwringer thanks brother . Yeah I’ve Learned that the fj09 is completely a different beast . And i don’t understand becusze my motor is 50cc bigger !
but the Swingarm must make a huge difference because I rode my buddy’s older model and it was what made me decided to buy a tracer . And I’ve been thinking something’s wrong with mine becusze of the difference with the wheelie capability’s. It’s good to learn there’s been changes made to the length of the bike and that’s contributing to it being much less wheelie prone . But it’s very sad for me .
I had an opportunity to buy an fj09 with low miles for half the price of my bike . But I went with a new one instead becusze of the updates and what I thought was an upgrade !
but there like two differsnf bikes now .

all I can hope for is a big difference once my ecu is flashed and maybe I can do a stage 2 dna filter to get some more torque as well .
And maybe I can change out the rear sprocket to a couple teeth extra . Like 16 front and change the 45 rear to 47 .
I’m determined to figure it out and get this bad boy to act like the hooligan your referring to !
and for anyone else following along yes I have shit off the tc and I’m in driving mode 1 so it’s just the bike itself needs some extra tuning .
    thanks again !

You're in the wrong RPM range entirely to torque it up.

You gotta spin it to win it, dude. It's a screamer, not a chugger.

The front end will come up with throttle alone in first, second, and third, whether you want it to or not. It took me a few weeks to recalibrate my corner exits after I got my FJ-09.

Yes, the longer swingarm on the later models makes this a little harder.

And it sounds like yours is having tuning issues after replacing the exhaust; honestly I'd dial back the hooliganism until you get a good reflash and throttle response is entirely predictable again. Or put the stock exhaust back on until then so it'll run right.

wow you must have some super bike or they made a lot of changes on newer models ,there's no way in hell my 2020 will lift as you claim ,let alone 3rd ,2and gear with clutch and thats it ,BTW I have the full akropovic  it only made it run stronger ,,so glad I did it

Turn off traction control? I have no issues at all doing a wheelie on my 20gt..........no issues.

My 2020, 1st gear power lift no problem {those are scary } ,2and gear need clutch ,3rd gear no way Oh and T C on ,does it make a difference off ? never tried it ,probably cause it defaults when you start bike

The latest is the full Akra for the Tracer. They were selling them as new for AU$1050, now they’re saying that they’re second hand for the same price.
A quick look shows that it’s a copy, no link pipes and different exit pipe.
Problem is people are paying too much money for a much lower quality fake.
Fine if they advertise it as a fake copy, but a rip off for people who think they’re buying the real thing.
    Many other examples.
    Caveat emptor.

anyone knowingly selling that china fake shit should be hung by their nuts ,,amazon is no better ,I was looking for a water pump for chevy van and all that came up was OEM Delco original parts but the price was way too low ,after scouring around the fine print says original replacement duplicate or something like that ,,if it sounds too good to be true  it usually is

Well......loved everything about the Michelin Pilot 4 except for the price and longevity, and the newer models aren't any cheaper. Rear is almost toast after 6k miles, and yes I have proper pressures at all times. I am not going to pay that amount again, and this time will be going with the well regarded Dunlop Roadsmart III.

went into cycle gear couple days ago and dude said we got a set of the 3s ,cool I come back later with my wheels and hoops these re the 4s ,we dont have the 3s,I was pissed ,$200 more ,but im standing there with wheels and heading out in a few days ,I got him to eat the install ,so I bit the bullet ,,from what I hear the 3s and 4s aren't that much different ,,I think the 4s are better in the rain which I could care less  about ,,,I only have a couple hours on tires but all I can say at this point is WOW ,,they lean in so effortlessly ,and carve a line ,,total confidence ,I think you'll be happy

I had ACC on a rental van recently.  It was nice on a 2 lane road and on the interstate.  It also had lane keeping.  I felt like the lane keeping was aggressive and in heavy rain turned it off.  My Chevy Bolt has lane assist (or keeping) and is much more subtle and not intrusive.  The ACC was good but at times I really didn't like it.  Creeping traffic it could do OK but in stop and go it was not good.  At higher speeds like the interstate it would decelerate nicely and sometimes was surprised at how much it would brake.  However I never really trusted it.  In the right situation maybe on a motorcycle but generally not something I'd be desiring.  I used CC a lot on my Tracer and loved it.  It was great for interstates and two lane roads which I did many miles off in my long trips.  Good for keeping from creeping 10 or 20 faster than I intended to go.

I've traveled extensively in Wyoming, Montana, SD, ND, Nebraska and Kansas.  There are lots of gravel roads in those states that would have loved to explore.  The time my BMW was broken down in Nebraska I had a rental car for a couple of days waiting on parts.  Did some exploring on gravel roads and it was fun.  Last September tried to ride a gravel road near Saint Mary at the eastern side of Glacier.  Turned around after 3 or 4 miles as was just too tired of the hassle and it was slow going.  Would have been easy in a car.  Despite the bike and I not liking gravel roads we still found many many wonderful miles of pavement to ride.

The 9 GT+ is an incredible bike and is a fantastic package.  It is still the best sport touring bike IMO.  Small and light enough to really hustle thru the corners including the tight technical stuff but big and powerful enough to run the speeds most folks would want to run.  It won't make that blast to 160+ when fully loaded like some high HP bikes will but is still more than adequate.  I felt like my Tracer 900 GT was just as fast thru first as my CBR600RR or ZX6R 636 but aero did slow the acceleration above second gear.  Still a very fast bike even when loaded.  It's big attraction was good power and still light enough to make the quick right left or left right transitions and just a slight put on the bars had it turning into the corner.

Yeah pretty sure it would never do 160,,especially loaded ,,the thing about my 2020 is yes its plenty fast if your jamming through the gears  other wise she's pretty flat till rpms get up around 7K

0-100 I can go toe to toe with my brothers 1000R,but after that hes gone ,,but say we are side by side 60 mph and twist it I eat his dust ,,the bmw has a dynamic power band

Getting a little to junked up.... do not need or want ACC or radar braking, nor the C$20,700 price.  Yes it needed a new display the prior split screens were "weird".  Keep it simple Yamaha, who do you think you are competing with, BMW?

Dude I was just about to say the same thing ,,except for a new display you can keep all the other gimmicks

If Yamaha  would just upgrade the display on standard GT they would sell more bikes ,IMO,,and some better colors

my engine and ABS fault lights are on.  In addition my cruise control will show on, but will not set.

so I just change my front and rear tire and front and rear brake pads.  nothing else

I made sure to not damage the front wheel sensor.

the bike actually rides great, and seems fine, but Cruise control will not activate, and on the display, bottom right corner, I have an engine and abs icons appearing.

NO I did not run the bike on the center stand. I did spin both front and rear tires after the pad exchange and did test the brakes lever feel.  Again never turned the bike on or started the bike.

    any thoughts?

Did you by chance run the bike in gear while on the center stand ? everything your describing happened to me   just before a long trip ,,dealer couldn't fix it ,,went to two wheel dyno ,{I know that doesn't help you } he plugged in his scanner and cleared the code in 30 seconds ,,unfortunately the only way to fix it is to clear that code ,I have seen here on this site you can find one at Amazon or eBay for like 45 $ ,,I hope this helps you ,,the dude Two wheel dyno said his was just a cheap code reader,,maybe you could call them ,see what they used ,,,425 269 5332

    good luck

You may find you have to adjust the gear shift linkage, probably by shortening it slightly.

Adjusting that linkage does nothing but adjust the lever position ,up or down depending on where you like it on your foot,,it ha no effect on actual shifting ,,the only way to adjust the actual throw would be to pull it off the spline shaft but I dont recommend that

Sometimes my bike clunks when going into first gear, sometimes it doesn't!

If it bothers you, shift into first gear before starting the bike, then hold the clutch in and start the bike and take off.

I just ignore the sound, my bike is 3 years old, and it doesn't seem to be hurting anything

that doesn't seem to make a lot of sense unless you just ride freeway

New 900 GT and I have a question about the gearbox.

Is it normal to go KERPLUNK into 1st gear? It`s quite a jolt when I drop into 1st from neutral. All other gears "snick" into place but from neutral to 1st is quite a jolt. Clutch freeplay is according to the manual and the chain is adjusted correctly.

Is this normal for the bike or is it cause for concern? The bike doesn`t lurch forward and it doesn`t do it when I shift from 2nd to 1st.

This is my first bike in a long time and hopefully this is normal.

    Any consensus here?

Mine was very smooth when new but not anymore ,

I am using this one on my 2019 and it also fits the 2020.  Tucks neatly under the bike the same as the stock exhaust.  I left the baffle in as I did not want my bike to be too loud.

  14. Anyone know or are using the Akrapovic  S-Y9R3 on newer Tracer  {2020}

The Akrapovic website calls out for the S-Y9R8 with carbon cap ,while shopping most outlets are coming up with the S-Y9R3 saying it fits 2020,

I prefer the looks of the older pipe {no carbon cap} ,these dam bikes are so sensitive I would hate to install and have the computer pick up some weird reading and have it lock something out ,, I once  ran the bike for a few seconds with back wheel off the ground and it cancelled Cruise control  and engine warning light was always on.

    Thanks

I only have a vintage 2015 bike so have no right to answer but if I said could it be that the bike was trying to determine if it was night or day and that be a reason why the colour is different in some circumstances?

I await the potential howls of derision......

there's no pattern ,,its just random,12K miles I think I've seen the red maybe 10 times,,I've tried restarting and shutting off immediately but the red symbol goes back into hiding ,,I think its shy

I agree, that interval is far too long.  Like I said earlier, I clean mine several times a year, usually around every 4,000 miles and they are ALWAYS filled with bugs and crap.

My god how many miles on bike ?,several is what at least 3 -4 times ,x4000..thats a lot to rack up in one year.

I know its super low pressure but are you concerned at all about R & R the seal on outlet tube

Not OEM, I have used K&N reusable filters in all of my vehicles for many years, not for any performance but for convenience.  I’m a stickler for a clean air filter so I wash them several times a year.

Yeah thats the way to go,,dealer wanted $40 bucks but was out so I just cleaned up the stock one ,didn't look to bad from the top side but down in the crevasse it was loaded with crap,,for giggles I checked the owners manual ,,replace at 24 K ,,thats insane

There shouldnt be anything else to do in there.  I removed the front foam area but havent heard anything about the snorkel.

Adjusting the APS makes a noticeable difference in throttle smoothness, factory setting should be 17, I adjusted mine down to 12.

I feel like I just fell off the turnip truck,,So I'm R&R  my air filter ,,what is the point of removing the foam and is it all the foam or just the smaller black neck piece on the front of the tank ?

Also I love the thought of smoother throttle ,but have no clue what APS is ,,does this adjustment require any special tools ?

    Thanks
