paulsmith
I can't believe that in 3 pages of suggestions for this problem, the most common issue for a clunky shift hasn't been mentioned. Make sure your clutch lever is adjusted correctly. Especially with a new bike, the clutch cable is going to stretch quite a bit and need regular adjustment for a while.A stretching or mis-adjusted clutch cable would change the bite point of the clutch but I don't see how it would affect the quality of the gear change? If the clutch is not fully disengaging, it will drag a bit and make the shift more difficult.
