morkys
My bike is in for service next week. Is it worth asking to have the fork oil swapped for lighter oil? I weigh 185-190 lbs without gear. I will do suspension upgrades later, but not for a while. 2017 FJ-09 - Yoshimura Y-series Exhaust / MRA Sport Screen / Evotech Rad Guard & Fork Sliders / Custom LED Rear Tail Light / Lowering Links / Mirror Extenders / Low Seat / Tail Tidy / Shogun Swingarm Sliders - Touring mods > Madstad 20" screen (on standby) / SHAD SH36 Hard Cases / SW-Motech Rear Alu-rack - Mods not yet installed > Fender Extender - Mods on the way > MT09 Adventure Pegs / Sargent seats / Knuckle Guard leds / Speedtech Photon Flush Mount LED signals / SW Motech Frame Sliders
norcal616
If anything, tackle the rear shock 1st since that will majorly mask any fork "improvements" you are trying accomplish... either aftermarket shock or send to Norwest for a re-valve... I'm 185# suited up and the suspension vendor says I need new fork springs... I guess 140# jockeys are heavy in Japan... 2012 wr250f - C-class 30+ age group 2015 fz-07- Hordpower Edition-80whp 2015 fj-09- Graves Exhaust w/Woolich tune by 2WDW @120whp
morkys
Ok, good advice. So what is the stock suspension set up for in terms of rider weight? I weigh 185-190# without clothes...so I guess I need to figure out my "with gear" weight. 2017 FJ-09 - Yoshimura Y-series Exhaust / MRA Sport Screen / Evotech Rad Guard & Fork Sliders / Custom LED Rear Tail Light / Lowering Links / Mirror Extenders / Low Seat / Tail Tidy / Shogun Swingarm Sliders - Touring mods > Madstad 20" screen (on standby) / SHAD SH36 Hard Cases / SW-Motech Rear Alu-rack - Mods not yet installed > Fender Extender - Mods on the way > MT09 Adventure Pegs / Sargent seats / Knuckle Guard leds / Speedtech Photon Flush Mount LED signals / SW Motech Frame Sliders

morkys
Interesting. I don't find the 2017 suspension weak or wallowy with my weight but I have not likely pushed the bike much at all. In fact, I thought some people found the front forks a bit harsh. I guess the only thing I can compare it to is my Honda CB 500 F and the FJ09 feels better than that for sure. Thanks for the advice, I will get reading and planning. 2017 FJ-09 - Yoshimura Y-series Exhaust / MRA Sport Screen / Evotech Rad Guard & Fork Sliders / Custom LED Rear Tail Light / Lowering Links / Mirror Extenders / Low Seat / Tail Tidy / Shogun Swingarm Sliders - Touring mods > Madstad 20" screen (on standby) / SHAD SH36 Hard Cases / SW-Motech Rear Alu-rack - Mods not yet installed > Fender Extender - Mods on the way > MT09 Adventure Pegs / Sargent seats / Knuckle Guard leds / Speedtech Photon Flush Mount LED signals / SW Motech Frame Sliders
